– “An Information Brochure.”
Your task is to design and produce an information brochure that explains, in
simple terms, to someone who has never used a computer how one works.
The brochure should explain what happens to data when someone sits
down to the computer to type a letter, save it and print it off at a later
date.
The brochure can be strictly factual or may be presented as an amusing
story (remember that all information should be correct).
WE will do this in three parts: Planning, Production and Evaluation.
PART ONE – PLANNING.
Use the Internet to research the following questions to assist you in gathering
necessary information.
You may copy and paste appropriate information into Word to use as
reference material BUT the resulting brochure MUST be in your own
words.
No Wikipedia!
You need to record the URL of each site that you use to gather
information.
o How does a hard drive work?
o What is a CPU & what does it do?
o What is the Motherboard & what
does it do?
o What is input?
o What is output?
o What is Hardware?
o What is software?
o What is ROM?
o What is RAM?
o What is USB?
o When you save a document where
does it go?
o Decide on a style you wish to use to explain how a computer works.
o Develop three criteria that you will use to determine if your brochure
meets the needs of your chosen client. (Class activity.)
o Organise your information and, on paper, write a script.
o Take another piece of plain paper and fold it to form an interesting
brochure. (Be creative, keeping in mind it must fold up successfully.)
o Show how you will lay out the information on the brochure; include
headings and pictures that might be necessary.
o Check the rubric to ensure you have completed everything to a high
standard. Submit both for assessment.
