Domain / Email / DNS

● 3 separate things● Domain = domain registrar● DNS = dns provider● Email = email hosting● Don't throw all eggs in one basket!● Try to keep at least domain & dns seperate

=> Registering a domain through Google not recommended (they don't offer .nz)

1. Choose a domain registrar

● Use a registrar with full DNS control● Watch out for the “shady” ones● Some offer setup services for Google Apps

(Name.com, Dreamhost, iWantMyName)

2. Signup Google Apps

● Sign up with Google (Standard Edition for up to 50 Users)

● Use a Google Apps reseller, e.g. WaveAdept if you need more users

● Get the CNAME verification record or html file to upload

=> Preferred method should be CNAME

Verify domain ownership

Verify domain ownership

Google verification code

3. Configure your domain (DNS)

● CNAME verification record● MX records (Mailserver)

● mail.google.com, docs.google.com, etc.

=> ghs.google.com (optional)

Complete Apps Setup

Done!

● You can now use email on your own domain● Subdomains mail.domain.com,

docs.domain.com, calendar.domain.com still need to be configured in Google Apps dashboard

● Migrate email: http://yippiemove.com● Alternative to Google Apps: Zoho Business (can

be used as backup)
