The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
It Is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). Its purpose is to contribute to peace and
security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture.
•It was founded on 4November 1946.
•UNESCO has 195 member states and nine associate members.
•It selects the heritage sites from all around the world and help the countries to develop and protect
them.
•It also classify them in to different categories like- manmade, natural etc.
•It has registered 1007 world heritage sites including 779-cultural and 197-natural sites.

World Heritage Site
A World Heritage Site is a place that is listed by the UNESCO as of special cultural or physical significance . The list is maintained by the international World Heritage Programme administered by the World Heritage Committee, composed of 21 UNESCO member states which are elected by the General Assembly
•As of 2002, 1007 sites are listed: 779 cultural, 197 natural, and 31 mixed properties.•India has 32 registered proprties.

• An elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of concrete and stone.
• It is the largest amphitheatre in the world, and is considered one of the greatest works of architecture and engineering.
• It could hold 50,000 - 80,000 spectators and was used for gladiatorial contests, mock sea battles and animal hunts.
• In the 21st century it stays partially ruined because of damage caused by server earthquakes.
• It is one of Rome's most popular tourist attraction and a world heritage site.

Agra Fort
•Founded in 1565 by the Emperor Akbar on the
right bank of the Yamuna.
•Near the gardens of the Taj Mahal stands the
important 16th-century Mughal monument known
as the Red Fort of Agra.
•This powerful fortress of red sandstone is
enclosed in its 2.5-km-long walls, the imperial
city of the Mughal rulers.
•The walls have two gates, the Delhi Gate and the
Amar Singh Gate.
•It comprises many fairy-tale palaces, such as the
Jahangir Palace and the Khas Mahal, built by Shah
Jahan; audience halls, such as the Diwan-i-Khas;
and two very beautiful mosques.

• Jaipur, the Pink City, is noted for the ancient houses made of a
type of sand stone dominated by a pink hue.

•Rajasthan is famous for textiles, semi-precious stones and handicrafts, and for its traditional and colorful art. •Rajasthani furniture has intricate carvings and bright colours.
