Summary Report Broken Bow Evangelical Free Church
GOAL-SETTING WORKSHOP Saturday, March 21, 2015
Presented by Dr. Mahlon Friesen IPM Interim Pastor
On Saturday, March 24, forty members of BBEFC gathered for the fourth workshop I have conducted at the church. The first three included the Discovery Workshop, the Journey Wall, and a Vision Review report. The purpose was to set specific ministry goals for each of the ministries of the church. The participants represented the staff, elders, deacons, deaconesses, and other ministry leaders. The participants included:
Roger & Carlene Albin Dan Anderson Sally Armstrong Jean Bose Karen Bredthauer Larry Coleman Alynn Coleman Betty Fauquet Darlene Friesen Alicia Hermsmeyer Thane & Karen Lewis Barb Luzum
Mel May Cindi McCullough Bernard Nichols Kyla Olson Jerry Safranek Russ & Michelle Simmons Brant & Susanne Taylor John VanZandt Carol Wright John Whitney was absent, but had previously submitted several goals for the mission committee.
We met from 9 AM - Dinner in our Activities Room, seated at tables by ministry involvement (Elders, Body Life, Christian Education, Operation, Outreach, Worship, Deaconesses, AWANA, Youth). Since several of the participants served in more than one area, there was some overlap among the tables. The Deaconesses provided snacks and arranged dinner after the session. We began with a devotional handout to consider the biblical idea of plans.
Keeping Our Focus
A One Word Devotional focuses on one word in Scripture. Pick one of the verses that speaks to you today and share why. Meditate: Read the Word of God - What does it say? Ask: What is the Spirit of Truth revealing to me? Pray: Lord, I want to adjust my life to this truth. Make me more like you. I want to obey You! Share: What is God saying to you through these verses?

Psalm 33:11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
Psalm 40:5 Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.
Proverbs 12:5 The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful. Proverbs 15:22 Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in a mans heart, but it is the LORDs purpose that prevails. Proverbs 21:5 The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not
to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. My personal application . . . All references from the New International Version (NIV) Copyright 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society
I reviewed the worksheets I had prepared for each ministry, and then turned the rest of the time over to the table groups to complete their work. Each worksheet had a similar layout, but was broken down by their areas of responsibility.

AWANA
AWANA Cubbies Goals March 24, 2015 Kyla Olson & Corina Flint Co-Cubbie Directors
1. Our primary goal at Cubbies is to reach children with the love of Jesus and help them to learn that Jesus Loves Me (Cubbies motto.)
a. Objective: To teach that Jesus Loves Me i. Action: Repeat each night that Jesus Loves Me and Jesus Loves You
b. Objective: Encourage Leaders to show the love of Jesus to the children i. Action: Love the children in practical ways: hug them; ask about their day,
family, pet, friends, life 2. Our new goal for the next AWANA year is to reach out to the families of our children.
a. Objective: Open lines of communication between leaders and families. i. Action: Greet parents each night; leaders connect with at least one parent of
the children from their table each night of AWANA, or as much as possible ii. Action: Continue to have children take the snack bag home weekly to have
parents provide a snack and use this as an opportunity to connect with parents iii. Action: Implement using the Parent Newsletter that is connected with each
weeks lesson as a way to connect the Cubbie classroom to the families at home
-
10
iv. Action: Schedule and have a special Bring Your Parent Night during the Cubbie year
v. Action: Schedule an AWANA Sunday service for church to invite families to come to Sunday service; children wear their uniforms and participate in the service
vi. Action: Continue to utilize the Opening Night, AWANA Christmas Program, AWANA Grand Prix, and AWANA Awards Night as opportunities to connect with children, parents and families; encourage our leaders to connect with parents of our Cubbie children at those events
SPARKS Goals Developed by the SPARKS co-directors: Alicia Hermsmeyer & Alynn Coleman
1. Within one year, the SPARKS co-directors and leaders will work to connect with each of the SPARKY families on a personal level. Objectives: Train leaders to reach out/connect with one parent, of the SPARKIES in their room during
book time, each Wednesday night either before or after SPARKS. Help the families to feel apart/connected and to invite them to Church on Sundays as many
are unchurched families. Action Steps:
Leaders connect each week with at least one family Send postcards after SPARKIES have been absent for two weeks in a row. AWANA Sunday (Inviting families to church in which the SPARKIES will have a role in the
service, wear their vests, etc.) Possibly connecting with families by having them volunteer to bring and help serve
healthy snacks that the SPARKIES can have during their book time (as many come without eating and are very hungry during AWANA).
2. The gospel message and invitation will be given at least four times during the 2015/2016 SPARKS year. Objectives:
Help the children to further understand what the verses they are learning mean in their own lives.
Utilize the four theme nights throughout the year as an opportunity to share the gospel message and pray with the SPARKS.
Action Steps: Train/equip leaders to be able to further share the gospel on a personal 1:1 level with
each SPARKY that shows interest. Send home a gospel invitation booklet to further explain the gospel message for the
children and also expose the family to the gospel. Follow up with children that show interest/let one of the leaders know they have made
a decision to follow Jesus. 3. Within one year, the co-directors of SPARKS will invite one-two young individuals/parents to
help/assist on Wednesday evenings. Objectives/Action Steps:
Connect with young individuals that are on the fringe and help them to see they are wanted and would be a great addition to the SPARKS team (utilize a mentoring program by placing them with our seasoned leaders).
Connect with parents of SPARKIES and help them feel wanted and also demonstrate what a big undertaking Wednesday evenings are without all of the help of the SPARKS team.

4. Within one year, the SPARKS will be participating in a Missions Project. Objective:
Help the SPARKIES to see that they can make a difference in the lives of others around the world.
Set an achievable goal in which the SPARKIES can work to achieve and feel a sense of accomplishment.
Help the SPARKIES to understand what missionaries are as well as mission projects. Work to connect with a group from another country so that the SPARKIES can see how
the money they raise is able to help others that are less fortunate. Action Steps:
Choose a specific missions project Set an achievable goal with the SPARKIES at the beginning of the 2015/2016 year. Send information home with the SPARKIES so that families understand what money
is being raised for. Coordinate a project with TNT so that greater goals can be achieved. Create a bar graph that can be updated each week as a visual for the SPARKIES to
see how they are coming in achieving their goal. TNT Goals Developed by the TNT director: Karen Bredthauer
