By Jeff Wallace

Well informed people

know it is impossible to

transmit the voice over

wires and that were it

possible to do so, the

thing would be of no

practical value.

Editorial in the Boston Post, commenting on the arrest for fraud

of Joshua Coopersmith (who had been attempting to raise

funds for work on a telephone), 1865

3 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

That’s an amazing

invention, but who

would ever want to

use one of them?

Rutherford B. Hayes (President of the United

States), after participating in a trial conversation

between Washington and Philadelphia, 1876

Only a toy.

Gardiner Greene Hubbard (Boston lawyer),

addressing the telephone invented by his

prospective son-in-law, Alexander Graham Bell,

and urging him to devote his time to other

pursuits. 1876

8 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

• Enterprises need to have a proper governance structure

around mobility

• Cross-enterprise representation is a necessity

• Determine your needs for supporting processes, policies

& tools to sustain mobility both within the enterprise and to

external stakeholders

• Understand where the enterprise is within its Mobile

Maturity

1. Form a Proper “Mobility Council”

9 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

• What is your business justification?

• Determine competitive advantage and ROI

• Identify process and technology impacts

• Prioritize the various applications/solutions being

contemplated and establish appropriate timelines

• Define your success factors

2. Develop an Enterprise Strategy & Roadmap

10 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

We just built it! Why doesn’t it work anymore?

11 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

• You could leverage open source tools, but do you really

want to self insure?

• Identify the “right” service provider and let them worry

about it…do not take on that risk

• Make sure that you get an SLA that offers you protection

from market volatility

• Establish a comprehensive testing strategy

3. “Future Proof” Your Investments

12 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

Mobility is Mine! No, it’s Mine!

13 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

4. Give Business its Desired Freedom & IT its Desired Control Simultaneously

14 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

Can You Make This Work for Me?

15 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

• Realistically, enterprises have two choices here:

• Do it now

• Do it later

• The “can you make this work for me” will not stop

• Establish a list of approved devices/mobile OSs that the

enterprise will support

• Leverage MDM/MAM solutions as necessary

5. Create an Approved BYOD Policy

16 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

I Understand that it Works, but ahhh …

17 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

• Functionality is “table stakes”, not the end-all

• Use personas & user journeys to ensure that usability and

user experiences are truly taken into account from the outset

• “Good enough” might just not be “good enough” anymore -

While employee-facing apps used to require less attention to

visual appeal, that is no longer the case

• As we like to say, “user experience drives user adoption

and user adoption drives ROI”

6. Don’t underestimate the importance of UX

18 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

I Know a Really Great App Guy …

19 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

• Select a partner that understands IT & Business

• Select a partner with expertise in user experience,

integration, security, and cross platform development

• Look for a partner that is willing to put their money where

their mouth is and co-innovate / co-invest

• Start small, be agile & plan to change

• Be ready for constant evolution

7. Find a True “Enterprise” Mobility Partner

20 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

1. Form a proper “Mobility Council”

2. Develop an enterprise strategy and roadmap

3. “Future proof” your investments

4. Give Business freedom and IT control

5. Create an approved BYOD policy

6. Don’t underestimate the importance of UX

7. Find an enterprise mobility partner

Enterprise Mobility: The 7 Things you Must Do

21 @jwallace913 | @GlobalKinetics1 © 2015,

– it’s an enterprise thing…
