CCSS Research: Parents Should…

• Ask their child to talk with them about their research project.

• Ask to see their research plan and talk with them about their questions.

• Learn about the topic as their child learns.

• If the child presents a thesis that he/she must do “research” to support, contact the school and ask to see the assignment.

Practice: Research Assignment Makeover

• Using the research project description and/or materials you brought, work with a team to redesign the assignment to align with the CCSS using the process in the Researching to Deepen Understanding unit.

• When we’re finished, everyone will vote for 5 projects to undergo further review. These will receive written feedback and have the opportunity to be posted as research exemplars on engageNY.
