semester in the program

Early years in Radiologic Technology

• Nurses or nurses aides taught how to “take an x-ray”

• NO special education

• Only “ON THE JOB” training

• Experience the best teacher

What is aRADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST?

• An important member of the HEALTH CARE TEAM

• Uses RADIATION to create IMAGES of the human body for medical diagnosis and treatment of disease or illness

Radiologic Technologists

are the largest group of

allied health professionals

in the country

Did You Know...?

What does an RT do?

Performs radiographic exams to help in diagnosis and treatment of

diseases, injury and illnesses

How RADIOGRAPHS (X-RAYS) ARE MADE

• X-rays created in an x-ray tube – controlled by the technologist

• Patient is placed into a position to see the anatomy best

• Radiation passes through and leaves an

impression on the film inside of the x-ray cassette

X-rays can provide information about:

• Obstructions (blockage)

• Tumors

• Fractures

• Other diseases & illnesses

The Radiologic Technologist Role• Preserve life

• Avoiding further harm• Obtaining further

medical assistance• Knowing when

assistance is warranted (most important)

DIVERSITYEXAMS & PEOPLE

PATIENTS ARE:• INFANTS • ELDERLY• ALL CLASSES• ALL ETHICITY• ALL BACKGROUND

• HEAD TO TOES• TRAUMA• SPECIAL

PROCEDURES• CRITICAL PATIENTS• WALK INS• SURGERY

ALL PATIENTS

HEAD INJURIES• It is not the

radiologic technologist responsibility to diagnose, but it is useful to have basic knowledge for assessment purposes

communitedOpen fracture
