with some of the pioneers of the ecovillage movement.

After ten years of intensive and creative activity the ecovillage family today includesmembers on every continent and spans a wide range of human settlements: urban and

rural, new intentional communities as well as older established settlements, andcentres of research, training and demonstration, all seeking to develop sustainable

solutions appropriate to their own local conditions.

The Ecovillages: New Frontiers for Sustainability event will include 4 dimensions:

An up to date profile of the global ecovillage movement, which has been called the'habitat revolution'.

A showcase of sustainable communities and ecovillage projects, both rural and urban, which have taken the quest of sustainability to heart and hand. These are projects

agency, UNITAR. Attendance at this event will count as the introductory week of thefour week EDE Certificate Training taking place in different ecovillages world wide.

An open forum of ecovillagers and sustainability designers, especially those whowere present at the launch of Global Ecovillage Network 10 years ago, as well as those

who have come on board since, where we will be exploring the new frontiers forsustainability.

Other themes we expect to explore during the week include the developing relationshipbetween the ecovillage movement and the United Nations, and the increasingly
