October 1-8 Celebrate the Global Ecovillage Network: Past, Present and Future with some of the pioneers of the ecovillage movement. After ten years of intensive and creative activity the ecovillage family today includes members on every continent and spans a wide range of human settlements: urban and rural, new intentional communities as well as older established settlements, and centres of research, training and demonstration, all seeking to develop sustainable solutions appropriate to their own local conditions. The Ecovillages: New Frontiers for Sustainability event will include 4 dimensions: An up to date profile of the global ecovillage movement, which has been called the 'habitat revolution'. A showcase of sustainable communities and ecovillage projects, both rural and urban, which have taken the quest of sustainability to heart and hand. These are projects which contribute not only to environmental health and well being, but also to strengthening local economies and healthy communities. The official launch of a new global education curriculum for sustainable human settlements– Ecovillage Designer Education (EDE) endorsed by the United Nations agency, UNITAR. Attendance at this event will count as the introductory week of the four week EDE Certificate Training taking place in different ecovillages world wide. An open forum of ecovillagers and sustainability designers, especially those who were present at the launch of Global Ecovillage Network 10 years ago, as well as those who have come on board since, where we will be exploring the new frontiers for sustainability. Other themes we expect to explore during the week include the developing relationship between the ecovillage movement and the United Nations, and the increasingly influential profile of GEN among policy-makers and planners. This event will take place within the setting of the Findhorn Foundation and Community known internationally since 1962 for its experiments with new models for sustainable living. Fees: £ 345 payable by participants with low income £ 395 payable by participants with medium income £ 485 payable by participants with high income [email protected] [email protected] The Findhorn Foundation in partnership with Global Ecovillage Network presents This event is a contribution to the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.
