President’s Message
Welcome Everyone; As president of the fair board, I would like to welcome everyone back to the Drayton fair this year.
We strongly believe we’re doing something right, as you are helping us to celebrate 156 years and we’re still counting. Each year we try to incorporate some new and exciting things to keep everyone entertained. In addition we’re always looking for new members to join our board to keep things going with fresh new ideas. So please bring out the family, friends, grandparents and pets there’s something for everyone to do that will help make memories out at the Drayton fair.
President; Brad Schieck
Mayor’s Message
On behalf of the Township of Mapleton, I would like to welcome everyone to our community and to the 156th annual Drayton Fair.
This annual event dates back to 1856 when my great, great, great grandfather’s family was farming in this community. At that time it was an important social event where people would visit but also a chance for them to show off their field and garden crops of the year as well as their livestock, in a friendly competition.
Today that tradition still exists in an expanded format to include the entire family in the competition as well as the weekend of fun and entertainment.
Our thanks and congratulations go to the Mapleton Agriculture Society and the many volunteers who make it happen.
We hope you will join us at the “Drayton Fair” and enjoy the many events that are planned.

aMbassador of the fair Message
For the last few months I have had the privilege of representing the Drayton-Mapleton Agricultural Society as the fair ambassador. Throughout the last year I have had many fun experiences. From handing out ribbons to meeting all of the entries in the pet show I had an amazing time this year.
Last fall I attended the District 7 annual meeting in Wellsley and was able to meet local ambassadors from out district. I also had the opportunity to travel to the Ontario Association of Agricultural Society’s Annual Convention in February. There I participated in the ambassador program and met many new people from across the province.
Overall, during my time as ambassador I have made many new friends and met many new people. I look forward to representing the fair at the Canadian National Exhibition at the end of August and would like to wish all of the contestants good luck at the upcoming fair.

SEWING By Crystal Raen
The steady lulling drum, Of the needle sewing through, Layers of fabric, That textured stuff of softness, That comes on bolts of bright colours, And night shades. Something luxurious can be made, Here in this tiny room, Where it is just me, And the thought of you. Sewing things for memory’s sake, The way she taught me how. First a quilt I did make, And then a simple doll. No matter the project, My machine gives that same lull. It’s like a soothing lullaby That makes my heart fill full

GRADE 25. PRINT the following on lined paper:
from The Happy Sheepby Wilfred Thorley
All through the night the happy sheep Lie in the meadow grass asleep.
Their wool keeps out the frost and rain Until the sun comes round again.
They have no buttons to undo, Nor hair to brush like me and you. GRADE 36. WRITE, in cursive, the following on lined paper:
Something Missingby Shel Silverstein
I remember I put on my socks, I remember I put on my shoes. I remember I put on my tie That was painted In beautiful purples and blues. I remember I put on my coat, To look perfectly grand at the dance, Yet I feel there is something I may have forgot – What is it? What is it? …
GRADE 47. WRITE the following on lined, 3-ringed binder paper:
from Grandma’s Sewing Boxby Linda Winchell
Spools of thread and needles Slipper cushions filled with pins Some tipped with coloured beads. Grandma’s sewing box was filled With everything she seemed to need.
I would rummage through Grandma’s sewing box It was like a treasure chest she saved for me. She would let me play with all the coloured buttons And tried to show me how to needle point A butterfly and bunny scene.
She would take my little fingers And thread my needle with thin pastel yarn. I will always remember my Grandma’s sewing box And the times, I would visit her on the farm.
GRADES 5 AND 68. WRITE the following with pen, on lined, 3-ringed binder paper:
The Weaversby Shel Silverstein
I was sittin’, I was knittin’ On a sweater I could wear. When I finished, I said proudly, “Hey, I’ve done some weavin’ there.” But ol’ spider on the wall said, “Can you do it in the air? Can you spin it out of gossamer From the ceiling to the stair? Can you let the wind blow through it So it sways but doesn’t tear? Then can you grab onto it And swing lightly on a hair? When you can – then you may truly say, ‘I’ve done some weavin’ there.’”
GRADES 7 AND 89. WRITE the following with pen, on lined, 3-ringed binder paper:
The Silken Tentby Robert Frost
She is as in a field a silken tent At midday when a sunny summer breeze Has dried the dew and all its ropes relent, So that in guys it gently sways at ease, And it supporting central cedar pole, That is its pinnacle to heavenward And signifies the sureness of the soul, Seems to owe naught to any single cord, But strictly held by none, is loosely bound By countless silken ties of love and thought To everything on earth the compass round, And only by one’s going slightly taut In the capriciousness of summer air Is of the slightest bondage made aware.
