I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Blessed and Merry Christmas. As the New Year begins may you find health, happiness and prosperity every day. There are sayings in many different languages and in this season I would like to share one from my Polish heritage with you. GOSC W DOM, BOG W DOM This translates into “A guest in my home is God in my home”. Be good to all.

Membership Dues for 2018
Dues for the 2018 Membership Year have been mailed out and you all should have received them. As was last year, the Dues statements have been mailed in hard copy. No Dues Invoices were sent via Email. The Officers have agreed to maintain the dues at $35 for 2018. However, the Officers have also agreed to add a $5 late charge for dues not received by January 15th, 2018. This added charge is intended to encourage prompt payment and to reduce the need for redundant mailings and follow-up contact when dues payment is delinquent. Please continue to make your generous voluntary contributions to the Boysville, Take 10 Program and the Fr. McGivney Chair for Life Ethics. Our Council is assessed a quota by our State Council to support these programs. Donation shortfalls mean that monies from our fundraisers must be reallocated to these State sponsored programs. Thank you for your financial support and all that you do for our Council. Lou Fiorentino, Financial Secretary

Popular Euchre Parties Continue in New Year
If you haven’t been to one of our Council’s monthly Euchre Parties in the last few months, you might be surprised at how they’ve grown in size and fun. Our October Euchre Party attracted 34 players, and our November party 28! At both games, a great time was had by all. While we may lose a few players temporarily to warmer climates, our Euchre Parties continue over the first four months of the New Year. The schedule:
• Friday, Jan. 12, at 6:45 p.m.
• Friday, Feb. 9, at 6:45 p.m.
• Friday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. (after the Lenten Stations of the Cross).
• Friday, April 13, at 6:45 p.m.
As always, the games are held in the St. Colette Activities Center, and are open to Knights, their families and their friends. Cost is $5 per person, plus 25 cents per euchre, with all the money returned at night’s end in prizes and raffles. Complimentary snacks and beverages are provided. The emphasis each night is on fun and fellowship. You don’t need to be a card shark. In fact, newcomers interested in learning how to play euchre are welcome, with free lessons available when arranged in advance. For more information, contact Mike Felczak at 734.462.2355. So please join us at one or more of our 2018 games. We’ll have a seat waiting.
We all know of the great work that Sr. Judie Ann does in feeding the poor and homeless in Detroit and the loving aid she gives to children suffering cancer. Our parish supports Sr. Judie Ann in many ways. Another way will be our pancake breakfast fund raiser on Jan. 21. Please join us for a great breakfast and show our support for Sr. Judie Ann. Donations are also accepted and appreciated.

The announcement of the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord from the “Roman Martyrology” draws upon Sacred Scripture to declare in a formal way the birth of Christ. It begins with creation and relates the birth of the Lord to the major events and personages of sacred and secular history. The particular events contained in the announcement help to situate the birth of Jesus in the context of salvation history. This text, the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, may be chanted or recited before the beginning of the nighttime Christmas Mass.
May you have a blessed Christmas and a healthy New Year. Fr. Gary Michalik
The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ
The Twenty-fifth Day of December,
when ages beyond number had run their course from the creation of the world, when God in the beginning created heaven and earth, and formed humans in his own likeness;
when century upon century had passed since the Almighty set his bow in the clouds after the Great Flood, as a sign of covenant and peace;
in the twenty-first century since Abraham, our father in faith, came out of Ur of the Chaldees; in the thirteenth century since the People of Israel were led by Moses in the Exodus from Egypt; around the thousandth year since David was anointed King; in the sixty-fifth week of the prophecy of Daniel; in the one hundred and ninety-fourth Olympiad; in the year seven hundred and fifty-two since the foundation of the City of Rome; in the forty-second year of the reign of Caesar Octavian Augustus, the whole world being at peace, Jesus Christ, eternal God and Son of the eternal Father, desiring to consecrate the world by his most loving presence, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and when nine months had passed since his conception, was born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem of Judah, and was made human: The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to the flesh.

PROPOSAL TO EXPAND THE NOMINATION PROCESS FOR SELECTION OF KNIGHT AND FAMILY OF THE MONTH
Brother Knights: Please provide your thoughts, pro or con, on this proposal by email to Grand Knight Chet Ostrowski (costrow1@yahoo.com). The new procedure is proposed to become effective in January 2018. All Dooley Knights are encouraged to nominate a worthy member for the Knight of the Month. Knights may also nominate a worthy Dooley Council family or St. Colette group for Family of the Month. The nomination of a Knight or Family of the Month must be supported by a description of the actions or qualitative behaviors that make the nominee especially worthy of the recognition. Selection of the Knight and Family of the Month will be decided at the Business (formerly Officers) Meeting on the Thursday preceding the Membership Meeting. In the past, selection of Knight of the Month was usually made on the basis of contributions to Council activities and events. Over time, the same members’ names came up on a regular basis. We wish to encourage a broader base for selection and recognize the contributions of Knights who may not be able to participate in Council events but who embody the principles of the Knights of Columbus in other activities. All Dooley Knights in good standing are eligible to be selected for Knight of the Month. Family of the Month nominees can be any family or group that shows extraordinary service to St. Colette Parish or to the broader Community. Nominations must include particular actions or contributions to the greater good. Nominations may be made by email to Grand Knight Chet Ostrowski (costrow1@yahool.com) and must be submitted no later than the Wednesday before the Business Meeting. The dates of the Business Meeting are published in the Echo Lite email which Lou Fiorentino sends out each week.
