TIP SHEET
A quick guide on how to turn long-form documents into more memorable and digestible copy for infographics that tell a story.
Infographics are often produced as an additional piece of shareable content to accompany a blog post, an article or report.
An infographic should:
› provide bite-sized nuggets of information that summarize the content of your long-form document;
› display key findings extracted from a document that make your prospects want to learn more—e.g. download a report or visit your website to read the full article;
› increase exposure via social shares of your content.
The anatomy of a good infographicLike a good story, your infographic structure should have the following components:
1. The heading, headline or main title, keep it short and catchy;
2. The introduction, these are a couple of sentences describing your infographic;
3. The body, comprising of a few section headings and some subheadings for the main content for each section;
4. Call-outs, separate sections which can be added to provide snippets—such as tips and other supplementary info you wish to include;
5. The conclusion, which can include a call-to-action and/or contact details.
6. Souces and footnotes

Tips to create the outline for your infographicThe best strategy to create a winning outline for an infographic is to take it step-by-step. Follow this framework to summarise the content of your report, article or blog post for infographic format.
Step 1: Identify your goals
› What is the goal of your infographic?
› Who is your target audience?
Step 2: Establish key ideas to communicate
› Go through the copy, pull out the most important information, and organise it into a summary that makes sense and flows nicely. To find a narrative for your infographic, answer this question: What story are you trying to tell?
› Define which information matters the most by establishing what the audience should get or might want to get out of the final product;
› Pull the key points out of your copy and extract the appropriate text that will form the various sections of the main body of the infographic content;
› Summarize the selected content down to around 200-300 words, maximum.
Step 3: Organise the main copy into named sections
› Structure the information extracted from the document into logical parts, perhaps converting some of the text into stand-alone bullet points;
› Sequence the parts to flow with your story;
› Break down the information into smaller sections by adding subheadings, supporting sentences and impact stats—they will work well with data visualization elements such as charts, icons and diagrams that the designer will be creating.
Step 4: Finalize the content outline
Once your main body copy has been finalized, it’s time to wrap it all up and provide the final elements that will make up the full content outline of your infographic:
› Refer to the infographic structure illustrated in ‘The anatomy of a good infographic’ diagram (see previous page) to fill in all the elements you wish to include;
› Write the main title and a short captivating introduction to grab the reader’s attention;
› Create the conclusion and a call-to-action, when appropriate, to prompt the prospect to visit your website or sign up for your email list for example;
› Include any external source materials that need to be cited in the footer section of the design itself.
Once your content is ready, submit your outline to request a quotation

Aries, you need to be both challenged and thrilled at the same time so with that in mind we're dropping you in the middle of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. Expect a rich indigenous culture, archaeological sites and a burgeoning food scene. Or if it's beaches you seek, there are all-inclusives galore.
It would be a good year to take a break from dull, earthly worries. Early summer would be a great time to go visit your earth elements in the mountain, especially if you can combine it with something mentally rejuvenating. Plus, the Taurus loves nature spirits and our fellow earth travelers—animals.
Earthly elements, you say? Check out this 6-million acre national park whose highest peak has come to share the same name since President Obama gave old McKinley the boot. The single road that meanders through the park yields awesome mountain views, plus wildlife like grizzly bears,

Libra, we could never disparage you for wanting to cleanse your body, mind and soul, and in the Big Island, you can do just that and still be miles away from the tourists ocking to Maui and Oahu. Yoga the day away at a wellness retreat tucked in the jungles of the hippie-ish Puna District, but save the Sabbath for a drum jam like no other at black sand Kehena Beach. Save an afternoon for exploring the abundant tide pools at Kapoho.
Take a vacation to the Southern Hemisphere in late winter when you’re tired of the city. Venus and Mercury are both in your sign, so it might also be a good time to visit your family that might have moved away and ground yourself again away from your over-scheduled social life.
With Neptune’s trajectory through Pisces, this water sign should indulge its mystical urges and visit a place with temples and history galore. Pick a place to ponder the mysteries of life, or how about a far away place to feel “lostin translation”? Pisceans love getting lost in a foreign culture.
Cambodia
Sagittarians, fall is the best time to visit the Big Apple: Think window shopping around the Village, an afternoon at the new Whitney, a morning run through Central Park, and sunset stroll along the High Line. Save a day or two at the end and hit the Hudson Valley for vainglorious fall colors.
Why not let the stars decide your next
vacation? We asked noted astrologist Janusz
Donatowicz to use his predictive powers to tell
us just what each of the 12 signs of the zodiac
is up to in the coming calendar year and,
based on his advice, came up with a vacation
tailored to every sign.

Venus rules Libra, and when Venus is in your sign, Mercury is in retrograde, and it looks like Uranus will be in Aries opposing your sun all year! What does this mean? Librans are advised to nurture the body and spirit, and spoil themselves a bit at a wellness center. Waters also have a calming effect on Librans.

This earth sign might be experiencing a sense of adventure which is fortunate this year with Capricorn’s ruler Saturn riding through Sagittarius. Think of something exotic and far away.
Capricorn, it's time to see the "big ve" animals of Africa (lions, elephants, cape buffalo, leopards and rhinoceroses) on a real-life safari. Fly into Livingstone, Zambia for the majesty of Victoria Falls beforehand, or head to Kilimanjaro, only a short trek away from the Serengeti.
Fear not Aquarians, we won't torture you with a family visit. Because you’ve got a winter birthday, we're packing your bags to a far-ung Polynesian paradise. Spend a week or two relaxing in an over water bungalow resort where your hardest decision is mojito or margarita.

Geminis' ruler is Mercury, which zips through all 12 zodiac signs in a year, just like the sun. Geminis are good at organizing, especially in relation to logistics, and getting to know new languages and cultures.
Cancers are all about home and 2016 shows it’d be even less your fancy to sacrice those comforts. But Cancers also love a domestic retreat and 2016 would be a great year to take some time off with the family and peter about in the countryside.
New York, NY
Don’t take a typical summer vacation—it’ll bore you. Wait until Mercury and Saturn get out of retrograde and move into Scorpio for something more exciting in late September or early October.
Scorpio, the most infamous sign of the zodiac is in its natural element with water, and what could be more alluring to Scorpio than sex, corruption and danger combined with one of the world’s largest coastlines?
Rio De Janeiro, BrazilIn 2016, this glam coastal city will become the rst in South America to host the summer Olympics. You'll see that this sizzling metropolis dances to the beat of its own samba-driven drum, with plenty to explore: the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, miles of sociable beaches and late-night club antics.
Big Island, Hawaii
AustraliaThe land Down Under has it all, dear Virgo. Fly into cosmopolitan Sydney and be thrilled by the iconic Opera House; zip up to Queensland and swim the Great Barrier Reef; surf the swells at hippie chic Byron Bay; have a spiritual encounter at inland's Uluru and end at the coastal capital city of Melbourne.
You have Jupiter in your sign direct from May to September. Take one of the huge trips you’ve been saving your pennies for: You’ll experience a lot more luck than you bargained for! This is your year to go big and discover the world.

Balkan Peninsula, Let your love of languages take you to the diverse Balkan Peninsula, where the old–world charms of Debrovnik, Croatia and the stunning waterfalls at Lake Plitvice await. Next, swing down to under-explored Macedonia and Albania before ending with Greece's Athenian treasures and Cycladic beach towns.
California,Cancer, we want you to take a trip that offers both creature comforts and respite from the outside world, which is why we're sending you to this heavenly slice of California coastline. Check in at luxurious Post Ranch Inn or the Ventana Inn in Big Sur. If the kids are in tow, head inland to Carmel Valley Ranch.

Southern Europe
Leos love adventure and proving themselves against the elements, and with Saturn in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Virgo, you’re ready to show the world who’s boss. Take a regimented trekking tour with a friend who will pamper your paws and take care of the details.
Leo
The Himalayan Mountains offer a trekking tour like no other. As a Leo, you'll no doubt want to lead a hike of your own, but you can just as easily hire a guide in Kathmandu for a tailored journey—whether it's in search of a sele in front of Everest or a trek around the celebrated Annapurna Circuit.
Nepal
This fascinating southeast Asian country, which shares a coastline with Thailand, is steeped in history and mysticism. Cambodia offers pristine beaches, the majestic Angkor Wat temple, sobering reections at the sites of the Killing Fields, and warm, hospitable locals.
Aries, you need to be both challenged and thrilled at the same time, so with that in mind we're dropping you in the middle of Oaxaca in southern Mexico.
