Use YouTube to watch your athletes

performances or to watch how their rivals

fight.

Coaching Digital Natives

Notate Video

Add you own “Coaching Points” to YouTube videos.

Coaching Digital Natives

Create Video

Use your mobile phone, camera and

then use YouTube to share it.

Or try something like Viddler.com to record from your computer

Coaching Digital Natives

It is not just aboutdesktop computers.

According to a recent study from the Pew Internet & American Life project (Lenhardt & Madden, 2005):

More than one-half of all teens have created media content

...and roughly one-third of teens who use the Internet have shared content they produced.

Conclusion

This changes coaching.

This will be hard“As new technology is developed, integrating it with pedagogy is always a challenge” (Peter Mellow. The media generation: Maximise learning by getting mobile. Proceedings for ASCILITE 2005 Conference: Balance (2005))

Think “YouTube” but in many more aspects

Evolution not Revolution

Questions?

The EndA final thought:

My two “Digital Natives” don’t understand what a “videotape” is, or why some cameras don’t

have a screen on the back, or that you can’t watch cartoons on all

telephones.

Neither will your future athletes.

Thank You!
