Todays young athletes will be online.

So you need to be online

They get their information/knowledge online

So you need to provide your knowledge online

According to a recent study from the Pew Internet & American Life project (Lenhardt & Madden, 2005):

More than one-half of all teens have created media content

...and roughly one-third of teens who use the Internet have shared content they produced.

Conclusion

Page 36: Coaching Digital Natives

Conclusion

This changes coaching.

This will be hard“As new technology is developed, integrating it with pedagogy is always a challenge” (Peter Mellow. The media generation: Maximise learning by getting mobile. Proceedings for ASCILITE 2005 Conference: Balance (2005))

Think “YouTube” but in many more aspects

Evolution not Revolution

Questions?

Page 38: Coaching Digital Natives

The EndA final thought:

My two “Digital Natives” don’t understand what a “videotape” is, or why some cameras don’t

have a screen on the back, or that you can’t watch cartoons on all

telephones.

Neither will your future athletes.

Thank You!
