Technology and Me

A personal timeline of educational technology

OverviewMy name is Chad Reis

I started pre-school in 1991) in Oahu, Hawaii

I graduated from Damien Memorial High School in 2004 in Oahu, Hawaii

I first went to college at KCC in 2004

When I finish my degree, I hope to become a high school English teacher

My definition of educational technology

... is using tools and technologies in the classroom that will enhace the students' preperation to be

successful in the future job market.

Kindergarten technology When I was in

kindergarten, the only technology we had was a T.V. with a VCR.

No computers in classroom.

High school technology In high school, I

pods had just come out, and text messaging was still in the early stages. Computers were also often used.

College technology Technology has

reached an all new level with the use of smart phones and e-readers like the kindle and nook.

Acess the internet in the palm of your hand...anywhere

A vivid technology learning experience

The i phone

This one device changed technology as we know it.

We can have the internet, e-mail, social networking, a notepad, games, a music player and a telephone in the palm of our hand.

A technology I want to use in my classroom

• ...is the smartboard.

• I've seen these used in the classroom. They are effective and look fun to use!

My vision of the classroom of the future

• In the future, I would like to see a classroom where every student has a laptop and is able to access the internet at a finger's touch.

• I would also like smartboards and projectors to replace blackboards and chalk.

• Those old desks that have no room for laptops and a notepad also must go and be replaced by collaborative desks.

A challenge for teaching

• As of right now, I think that the biggest challenge would be funding in the public school system for up to date equipment.

• Staying ahead of the times would be difficult as well without funding, causing students to be unprepared for the future.

Words of wisdom

• Technology• If you aren't a step ahead of it, you're a step

behind.
