INTRODUCTION
The 2015 London Design Festival feels more ambitious than ever; there’s a new destination at Somerset House
and we’re delighted that Greenwich Peninsular and Brixton are participating for the first time. There are some
spectacular installations to view too. From Alex Chinnock’s inverted pylon, A Bullet from a Shooting Star, to
the V&A where mischer’traxler have installed 250 glass globes containing fluttering butterflies and insects, you
could not wish for more diverse or creative pieces.
As the debate about design weeks continues, with more taking place each year, there is no question that
The London Design Festival has successfully set the pace, raised the bar and can demonstrate not only how
to energize the city but also encourage those outside the design industry to get involved. We love the fact
that Lohnerwerke will present new two-wheeler e-bikes and an exceptionally powerful electric scooter, while
Deadgood is launching a totally new library in Shoreditch.
In our pack, you will see that we have made it easier to navigate the city with our neighbourhood guides and
maps. The top 50 highlights should fast track you to the best edit and in addition we have included details about
our clients who have created or are involved in standout installations across London. If you need to meet people
for breakfasts or dinners, we have included an update of our Camron private address book of great restaurants
and bars and suggest you book in advance.
Apart from our London team, we are delighted that there are five colleagues from our New York office and two
from San Francisco joining us this week.
We look forward to a successful London Design Festival.

50 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL
A BULLET FROM A SHOOTING STARA Bullet from a Shooting Star by Alex Chinneck takes the form of a regular electricity pylon but given the structural feat it is performing, the design is far from conventional. Referencing the industrial history of the site which once included the largest oil and gas works in Europe and a steelworks, Chinneck will create a lattice of steel, that resembles an upside down pylon, leaning at a precarious angle as though shot into the earth.

BERNHARDT DESIGNBernhardt Design will showcase Colours, its latest collection from French designer Noé Duchafour-Lawrance, during the London Design Festival. The collection was inspired by Duchafour-Lawrance’s childhood memories of a stepping stone path while playing outdoors. Colours is comprised of twelve upholstered pieces that can either stand alone or be combined in different ways. The mixture of surfaces allows designers to assemble flexible groupings to support different ways of congregating. As with much of Duchaufour-Lawrance’s work, the organic shapes are balanced with crisp tailoring and details. Soft curves create visual interest while saddle stitch detailing inserts geometric structure to the natural shape.

TOP TEN HOT TABLES
BARRAFINA (NEW)The new Barrafina Drury Lane has 23 stools - exactly the same as the original on Frith Street - but like Adelaide Street it also has a private dining room downstairs. The group’s Executive Head Chef Nieves Barragán Mohacho has been hard at work building a new à la carte menu which mixes classic Barrafina favourites with new dishes inspired by recent trips to Galicia, San Sebastien and Mallorca.
RÖK (NEW)A smokehouse which comes with a Nordic twist. Rök, which literally means “smoke” in Swedish, brings pickling and smoking various British ingredients - with a focus on delivering the kinds of smoked meat dishes, cures, pickles and vegetable dishes that you’d see on tables across Northern Europe. The menu has been created by Matt Young (from Barnyard and Aveqia) and links in with recipes from the owners’ families.

CHILTERN FIREHOUSEThe renowned restaurant lies in the Neo-Gothic , ex-firehouse turned designer hotel. Nuno Mendes, the head chef has created a menu that reflects current trends in top international restuarants with stunning plates of food, but that is only part of the story. With original features from the firehouse, exposed brick and wooden floors that spill over to tile, interiors designed by Studio KO. We recommend the Chiltern Firehouse for breakfast. There is also an outside patio for evening drinks.
Location: 1 Chiltern Street, W1U 7PAContact: 020 7073 7676
EMBER YARDSoho’s Berwick Street is home to Ember Yard – an outstanding restaurant from Salt Yard taking its inspiration from Spanish and Italian methods of cooking over char-coal. The open plan kitchen’s main feature is the custom built charcoal fired grill in the centre, which means it is no surprise that the menu devised by Chef Director Ben Tish and Head Chef Jacques Fourie is almost entirely grill based.
Location: 60 Berwick Street, W1F 8SUContact: 0207 439 8057
POLPOA little piece of Venice in the heart of Soho. Polpo in Beak Street is based on the bacari - or wine bars frequently found in the city famous for its canals. The Italian menu is typical of the type you’d find in the bacari of Venice offering small plates and traditional cicheti, northern Italian wines as well as the classic Italian dishes. The attractive interior of exposed brickwork gives this early eighteenth century building a modern appeal.

FISCHER’S RESTAURANTDiscover Austrian cuisine in a new way with Fischer’s. It’s a 100-seater cafe-style eatery with a community feel, open for early breakfasts, right through to late-night drinks, with full dinners and sandwiches, Viennese strudels, and schnitzels. The am-bience combines the intimacy of a chalet with the bold eccentricities of an early twentieth century train station.
Location: 50 Marylebone High Street, W1U 5HNContact: 020 7466 5501
SPRINGSkye Gyngell’s first solo venture at Somerset House. The restaurant brings Skye’s acclaimed ingredient-led cooking to the New Wing. Skye and her team are guided by the changing seasons, writing daily lunch and dinner menus that present the best produce simply and memorably within the elegant 19th century drawing room, which has been refurbished to its former glory. It is the first time that the space has been open to the public for over 150 years.
Location: Somerset House, Lancaster Pl, WC2R 1LAContact: 020 3011 0115
THE PALOMARThe creation of prominent chefs Layo and Zoe Paskin, The Palomar offers the traditional experience of Jerusalem – from the food to the feel of the place, which is 1930s decadence by way of travel, romance and adventure. You can either go casual at the Kitchen Bar (where walk-ins are welcomed), or book for the main restaurant, the still-intimate 35-seater at the back of the venue, and behind the venue’s open-plan kitchen where the chefs can be seen at work.
Location: 34 Rupert Street, W1D 6DNContact: 0207 439 8777
PARADISE GARAGE (NEW)The first East London outpost of Robin and Sarah Gill’s growing collection of restaurants there ought to be more of (which includes both The Dairy and The Manor), it serves relaxed, inventive European bistro food and wine from a bustling open counter kitchen in a converted Bethnal Green railway arch. The head chef is Simon Woodrow, cooking with a traditional British approach.
Location: 96 Kensington High Street, W8 4SGContact: 020 7221 2000
DUCK AND RICEStylish British pub with copper beer tanks and upstairs dining room serving elevated Chinese dishes. A fantastic main menu - there’s Singapore noodles, crispy duck pancakes and sweet and sour pork are highlights. The snacks too, are fabulous including a sparkling dish of cashew nuts seemingly dry fried with fresh chilli, crisped shallots and salt until the natural oils run. It is a big bowl of toastiness and nuttiness.
