On page 159 This topic is about how we can teach something should parallel how something is learned. Direct experience with the concept represented by the word is the most powerful and lasting way to teach. They also teach new words by helping students see the relationships between new concepts and already known concepts.

Scavenger hunts are fun activity because they develop both competition

and a sense of team spirit. For scavenger hunt that helps your students

build word meaning by collecting real things and pictures.

The step:

1. Make a list of the items for which you want students to scavenge.2. Divide your class into teams of three or four.3. Let the team have an initial planning meeting.4. Allow the teams to meet briefly once or twice more.5. On the appointed day, have teams bring their finds.6. Reword the wining team by allowing them to display their finding.We adopt into the class scavenge not out of class.
