lay the foundation for

production specifications

vector and

bitmap

vector graphics

individual lines and shapes –

can be scaled or edited

with precision.

bitmap graphics

picture file made with small

squares or pixels –

cannot be scaled or edited

with precision.

select specific sections,

change color of the fill,

stroke the shape with a new line or

change the shape itself.

Preferred Graphic File Type and Formats

for Production

Vector Format – File Type

Encapsulated Postscript eps

Adobe Illustrator ai

Corel Draw cdr Files with text paths should be converted to outlines. If the text is not converted, all fonts will need to be included.

Bitmap Format – File Type

Adobe Photoshop psd Files should be high resolution 350-400 pixels per inch images, low resolution images do not print properly.

Other Acceptable Formats –

AutoCAD dwg

AutoCAD dxf Files with fonts should be changed to shapes. All graphics should be provided with no fills and all polylines closed.

*TIFF, GIF, JPEG, BMP, PDF and Word document files are not acceptable production formats. They are not normally

editable for printing. These are useful when sent as a reference or for quoting purposes.
