    Pacedictatesthespeedatwhichyourreadermovesthroughyourstory.Skilfullydone,itcanspeedthingsupandslowthemdownwithequalmeasure,allwithoutthereaderreallynoticing,sogettingthepacingrightreallyisafineart.Doitcorrectlyanditcouldheightenyourreadersexperience,butifyougetitwrong,yourreaderwontwanttoreadanyfurther.

    Paceisntjustabouttherateatwhichyourstoryistold,butitsalsoacleverwayofblendingaction,emotionandtension.Andthewaytoachievethatistochoosetherightwordsfortherightscene.

    Paceisallaboutmomentumwhetherfast,sloworsteady.Whicheverway,yourreaderwantstofeelthatrate,tofeelsweptalongortofeelagentlelull.Theideaistovarythatmomentum,tomovealongsteadily,thenrampuptheactionandpace,thenslowthingsdowntoallowthereadertoreflect,andsoon.Withoutthispacing,astorymightfallintothetrapofbecomingtheclappedoutoldbangerchuggingalongabarrenroadatasteady35mphuntiltheveryend.Thereisariskthatthemonotonywillsendyourreadertosleep.

    Itcanbeusefultoadegreetheyprovideanoverviewofnovelwritingmethodsandtheyhelpwritersunderstandsomeofthewritingprocesses.Theirsellingpointisthattheyoffertheframeworkforwhichtocreateyournovelhowever,notoneofthemwilltellyouhowyouapplysomeofthemostimportantaspectswhenitcomestowritingsheerhardwork,determinationandtheabilitytowrite.

    Noneofthemwilltellyouhowtoactuallywriteanovel.

    Takeacloselookatthemajorityofprogramsandyoullfindtheyareaboutorganisingorganisingchapters,indexingcharacters,creatingsceneandchapterslistsetc.Someprogramshavenameandtitlegenerators,sotheyevenremovethatcreativeprocessfromthewriter.

    Onefamouswritingsoftwareprogramevenhasamenusoyoucanlistallyourscenes.Butyoudontneedthat.Thescenesarealreadythere,inyourstory.Youareonlycreatingmoreworkforyourselfinanalreadylongwritingprocess.
