BHADARWAH: Father, son got injured when a vehicle theywere travelling in skidded off the road near Nashri on Batote-Ramban National Highway on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, A Nano car on its way to Nashri fromBatote on reaching near Nashri area 6 Km from Batote onRamban- Batote highway fell into 40 feet deep gorge result-ing 2 persons got injured. It was reported that the driver hadlost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve.

After coming to know about the incident, police along withlocals rescued both from the gorge and shifted them toEmergency Hospital Batote.

The injured have been identified as Kaka Ram (42) son ofMansa Ram and his 15 year old son Sahil residents ofBhagote in village Batote area. Later, both the injured wereshifted to GMCH Jammu for further treatment. A case hasbeen registered in this regard

UDHAMPUR: Police on Wednesday recovered a body of ayouth from Tawi near village Mathlow at Chenani inUdhampur.

According to a report, Chenani Police recovered a body ofyouth lying in mysterious circumstances in Tawi near villageMathlow at Chenani in Udhampur and shifted it to Sub-District Hospital Chenani where doctors declared himbrought dead. The deceased was identified as 22 yearsShakeen son of Darshan Kumar resident of village PattanGarh in Chenani.

Police handed over the body to his family members afterconducting autopsy and registered a case under section 174Cr.PC for investigation.

VIJAYPUR/SAMBA: Police on Wednesday arrested two per-sons and recovered 900 gm poppy straw and 18 gm Charasfrom their possession.

According to a report, Vijaypur Police on an informationarrested one Ram Dass (60) son of Sawan Mal resident ofJakh Tehsil Vijaypur and Distt Samba and recovered 450 gmpoppy straw from his possession. A case vide FIRNo.99/2017 under section 8/15 NDPS Act was registeredagainst him at Police Station Vijaypur. The operation wascarried by the team of Police Station Vijaypur led by SHOInsp. Suraj Pathania.

Meanwhile in another incident, a party of Police StationSamba during Naka checking at Mansar Morh intercepted atruck (HP68/1953) and recovered about 450gm poppy strawand 18gm Charas from the possession of driver namelyVikram Singh alias Vicky son of Daleep Singh. A case videFIR No 151/17 under section 8/15 NDPS Act was registeredagainst him at Police Station Samba.

UDHAMPUR: Police on Saturday arrested two bovinesmugglers and rescued the 10 bovines from their possession.

According to a report, a party headed by In-Charge PolicePost Tikri laid a Naka near Tikri and intercepted a Truck(JK02A-4071). During checking, 10 bovines were foundloaded in the truck which were rescued and the driver name-ly Mohd. Rafiq son of Gulam Rasool resident of Reasi withhis helper (conductor) namely Amnek Singh son of HarnekSingh resident of W.No. 3, RS Pura Jammu were arrested. Acase vide FIR No. 111/2017 was registered against them atPolice Station Rehambal under relevant sections of law.

RAMNAGAR: Two women who went to collect their cattlefrom meadow were buried under a land slide and killed whilereturning home.

The woman identified as Bimlo Devi (32) wife of Bodh Rajand Kailasho Devi (38) wife of Shallo Ram both residents ofTrelam, Ramnagar met their misfortune on reaching KauaBase Camp of Mata Pingla Devi, when suddenly they gotburied under debris of land slide and died late in the eveningtoday.

Body of Smt Bimlo Devi was recovered while the body ofother woman could not be retrieved from the debris in theabsence of a JCB till receipt of the last reports. The SHOSanjay Raina who reached the spot said that bodies will haveto be shifted to Sub District Hospital Ramnagar for autopsy.

STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: In a major drivelaunched by district admin-istration, Rajouri againstillegal power connectionsand power theft a fine of Rs2,44,086 was imposed in 73inspections conducted onvarious feeders in five subdi-visions. In last four days atotal fine of Rs 7,36,634 hasbeen imposed in such cases.Four FIRs have also beenregistered in cases of illegalusage of power in Rajouri-IIDivision.

been conducted and Rs 7.36lakh fine imposed. Today afine of Rs 92,880 wasimposed in Sunderbani, Rs69,573 in Rajouri-II, Rs53,633 in Rajouri-I, Rs17,000 in Koteranka and Rs11,000 in Nowshera.Pertinently, Rs 2.04 lakhfine was imposed inKalakote yesterday. Highestfine of Rs 3.64 lakh hasbeen imposed in Rajouri-IIdivision.

As an outcome of this drivea total of 199 connectionsinvolving Rs 173.55 KWload were regularised. Thedrive has led to increase inrevenue of power depart-ment and removal of illegalconnections as a relief toregular customers payingpower tariff regularly. Morethan 12 welding connections

operating illegally were alsodisconnected.

The drive against illegalpower connections has nowbeen initiated in each feederwhere teams of powerdepartment have beendeputed for taking actionagainst such instances andinitiating legal proceedings.

Earlier, DDC Dr Shahidreviewed the progress in ameeting attended bySuperintending EngineerEM and RE, XEn EMREand also with SDMs andTehsildars. Revenue officershave been directed to identi-fy illegal connections furtherin collaboration with powerdepartment. The drive isaimed at eliminating the ille-gal power load to reduceunscheduled power cuts.Meanwhile seven damagedtransformers were replacedin the district today.

RAJOURI: DeputyCommissioner Rajouri, Dr.Shahid Iqbal Choudhary onWednesday visited reliefcamps set up for bordermigrants and also took stockof the obtaining situation invillages along the Line ofControl (LoC) that are affect-ed by cross LoC shelling.

The DC enquired about thewelfare of migrants andreviewed facilities being pro-vided to them by the districtadministration. It was saidthat the district administra-tion has established specialrelief camps for the peopleevacuated from habitationsalong the Line of Control(LoC) following heavy cross-border shelling in the arearecently.

Pertinently, the districtadministration and police hadyesterday launched a majorrescue operation and rescued217 students and around 15teachers from three schools in

Nowshera Sub-division dur-ing the shelling.

More than 150 studentswere shifted to camps whileother students were handedover to their parents.

On the occasion while brief-ing the media persons aboutrescue and relief measures atthe relief camp set up inGovernment Middle SchoolBawali , the DC said that the

A joint team of Revenue,PWD, Police with assistancefrom CRPF launched theanti-encroachment driveearly morning yesterday toremove structures construct-ed in violation of J and KPrevention of RibbonDevelopment Act. Theencroachments which hadreduced the driving spaceover a period of many yearswere removed using heavymachinery.

STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: The DistrictDevelopment Commissioner,Kathua on Wednesdaychaired a meeting to reviewthe power scenario in the dis-trict at DC Office complex.Issues related to availabilityof power supply, voltage drop,unscheduled cuts were dis-cussed with the officers ofPDD.

At the outset DDC Kathuaconstituted a dedicatedVigilance and MonitoringCommittee for inspectionwhich comprises ofMagistrate, Police Officer andPDD officers along with field

staff to conduct drives againstthe illegal connections. Thedrive will be a regular affairwhich aims to keep a check onun-registered electricity con-nections resulting in overloadand loss of State exchequer.The meeting also identifiedthe vulnerable areas reportedwith maximum gap betweenconsumption of power andrevenue in turn. He called forstarting the drives from vul-nerable areas to other areasacross the district.

Purposing on converting un-registered connections to reg-istered, DDC called for pro-viding on spot provision of

new connections to the con-sumers during the drives.

During the meeting districtadministration devised out adaily reporting mechanismunder which AEEs to updatethe data of such drives ondaily basis. The data willreflect disconnections, newconnections, collections andother information related tothe drive.

While talking tough onpower theft, DDC directedthe officers to fix the responsi-bility upon the team compris-ing of AEE, JE and linemanconcerned in wake of any un-registered connection/ re-con-

nection after the drive. Hecalled for proper monitoringand tracking of differenttypes of irregularities/caseslike direct tapping, additionalload usage, non-sanction util-isation of load, running underdisconnection, tamperedmeter etc to check the menaceof power theft.

The DDC asked the PDDfunctionaries to work withdedication and devotion todeliver best possible servicesto the people. He appealedpeople to get their power con-nection registered with speci-fied usage to reduce the riskof transformer breakdown.
