amigos a story of friends
TRANSCRIPT
BEFOREWORD
“Grandpa.. Have you seen my slam book, mom is not receiving my call”, I woke from
my afternoon nap by my grandson’s voice. “Yes it’s in our room have you checked that”, he
came with the red slam book and was showing me his collection of friends.. Innocently he
asked, “Grandpa tell me about your friends, how were they, did you enjoy with them? Where
did you meet them?”
This question took me 38-40 years back.. Life is a journey, you get lot of travellers
some of them give you memory which lingers for years and years. “Yes! I have 10 best
friends , honestly when I first met them on my first B-school day I never thought that they will
be my best buddies but trust me son, they are darling to me till today and guess what we
named our group “AMIGOS” which means friends in Spanish” I said while adjusting my
spectacles. He said more curiously” Oh wow! Cool name Grandy... But tell me more about
them, you met them in your B-school how were they exactly?”
I drowned into my thoughts....

Mr. Nice Guy
Shubham Swarup.....
I saw him in the class on the very first day of my college & of course like every
narrow minded person, I also felt funny by looking his round shaped body but when he
started talking in session the whole class including me was stunned by his perfect English ,
good vocabulary and great confidence. I thought about my first perception about him and I
felt guilty and embarrassed. On that day I got a lesson “Don’t judge a book by its cover!”
Shubham had graduated in pharmacy and came to our B-school with ambition of
becoming a good manager. He was very hard-working and quick learner. Inspite of being a
pharmacy graduate he learned finance very quickly. It’s really very difficult to find attitude
of never say quit! But this guy had it, he likes to face challenges and curb them. The second
good thing about him was his simplicity, we will find people who like to boast about
themselves, but he was very humble and down to earth. Though you found him very serious
type of guy but he actually lived every moment with joy, with smile. That’s why we used to
call him Mr. Nice. But every smile has its dark lining. I remember during our college days he
was very emotional and introvert by nature but he always tried to remove those weaknesses.
Of course with all his strengths he had great achievements:-
Sports
Vice- Captain University Cricket team.

“This is about my Mr. Nice “ I said; “Hmm that’s really nice grandpa, I am curious
to know about rest !”He said by keeping his slam book aside.

Study study everywhere...
Subarnarekha Sarkar....
Short height, Bengali look, friendly attitude that’s how we can describe Subarnarekha
Sarkar (Subbu). She never used to take lot of time to make friendship with anyone. A great
sense of humour and decent attitude towards life made her different from average guys like
us. Of course a girl with brain and common sense is a very rare combination but she had both.
From her childhood she had ambition to become an Electronics and Tele-communication
(E&TC) engineer; she pursued her ambition form NAGPUR University. With meritorious
score she became E&TC engineer but she got fade up with that technical field and decided to
pursue management studies. Her ambition was to grow with a company with a challenging
and stimulating position.
She came from the city of joy- KOLKATA. She never liked to bind her life to any
boundaries. She always liked to learn new things and expand her horizon. I have never seen
such confident girl in my life. She had belief on herself and ability of keep going and
growing. The best quality in Subbu was she believed in valuing relations and people which
helped her to make lot of friends. I remember till today, her one line “Give smiles and spread
happiness as much you can and it will come back to you in doubles.”
Well you can take out books from Subbu but you simply cannot take Subbu out from
book. Yes right she liked to read books, especially books of Paulo Coelho and Nicholas
Sparks, ‘The Alchemist’ was her favourite book. Trust me her Bengali genes showed their
existence by her interest in music, though there was no particular favourite singer of her but
she liked to listen music according to her mood. Semi classical, Rock and Bollywood songs
were her favourite category of music.
6
Being an E&TC engineer she liked to watch science fiction programs but being a girl
she liked typical romantic movies and cartoon movies ( actually I don’t know why these are
2 different categories) but jokes apart she was an knowledge hunter. And she didn’t even
leave the option of internet. She literally surfed knowledge oriented sites and read them for
hours and hours.
And her attitude paid her bunch of achievements like:-
Academic
Certificate of Merit from CBSE
Best Student Award Winner in College of graduation
Always in top 10 in University during Graduation
Corporate
Selected for L&T InfoTech and Tech Mahindra as Assistant Systems
Engineer and Technical Associate during Campus Drive
Sports
District Level Swimming Champion in 2003

Shocking hair do
Sumit Mittal.....
Sumit Mittal as from surname you can guess Delhite boy. But he had serious attitude
for any work, a rare combination in people of Delhi. First thing you could notice about him
was his shocking spike hair style. He had hair style like Johnny Bravo that is exactly spiked.
He had graduated from Delhi University and his ambition was to pursue carrier in
Marketing and to become a marketing manager in reputed firm.
If I have to describe his personality I will say he was neither introvert nor extrovert
yeah though this is confusing it’s true. He had very limited friend circle in our class and he
cracked jokes very rarely but still he was a good human being because of his qualities like
maintaining friendship with those who are close to him. Sumit’s hobby was playing Chess
and listening music.
I still remember our OB professor had given us one assignment which was on
personality ; main motto behind that was to analyze our personality and try to remove
weaknesses and like all average student we submitted it and forgot. But Sumit had taken it
more seriously. He actually worked on negative parameters of his personality which were
INTROVERTNESS and his physical problems.
Achievements: -
Academic :-
Got 1st prize in debate competition.
Winner of the poem competition
Winner of writing competition at school.
Sports :-
Runner of chess competition at school level.

JACK OF ALL… MASTER IN ALL
Vaibhav Sadiwala.....
I think people get remembered either by their physical appearance or by their
qualities. I can remember Vaibhav because of his qualities. What do you want in perfect
management student confidence, attitude, leadership, decent English, versatility? Vaibhav
had all these qualities which naturally helped him to become leader of our group. Vaibhav is
originally from Burhanpur. He pursued his graduation in BBA from Pune University. After
that he worked with Tanishq, the leading jewellery brand as Counter Sales Executive and
after that he came to pursue management studies from our college.
Being Marwari he has good communication skill and great sense of humour which
helped him to remain cheerful in stressful environment and it also helped him to expand his
network in college. Being a corporate experienced person he had some good qualities like
good communication skills and fast learning. These helped him in his academic studies. He
was also a core committee member of Marketing Club. Well another good quality Vaibhav
has was his helping attitude, he always ready for help. As I said he was a good leader which
reflects his team building attitude and he actually knows how to work in team? how to
motivate team members?
Well though he was good in studies he had some dark sides also. He was highly
emotional and his mood fluctuates very rapidly which creates disturbance in his studies I
still remember his viva of Information Systems (IS) ; our professor had conducted a small
viva on cloud computing he called 2-2 students and started taking viva but as Vaibhav wasn’t
good in IS he couldn’t answer those questions properly but he didn’t quit he prove his mettle
with pretty good CGPA. Generally most of the student in B-School has the ambitions like to
get great job or to start his own enterprise but Vaibhav had really different ambition he
wanted to start a college which should be best in each aspect but with affordable fees.
9
Really very few people at age of 22-23 think like that. I think this is the virtue which
helped him to stand apart from crowd.
With his strong and firm qualities he was able to capture these achievements
Sports: played professional cricket from the district club of Burhanpur.
Cultural : participated in events like dance, skits, plays etc
Academic :
Having certificates for Hindi and Mathematics all India exams for school,
Represented Garware college in a management fest for HR at Belgaum
(Karnataka)
I can say he was really all-rounder in each aspect for that he can be best describe as
“JACK OF ALL AND MASTER IN ALL”.

Mumbai cha porga....
Viraj Deshmukh.....
“Hey will you take me in your OB group?” the first sentence he asked me , and we
were really unaware how he become one of the major part of our group. Viraj was a guy with
great personality and sharp mind. He had completed his engineering with flying colours from
Mumbai University and came to our college simply to conquer. He was extremely passionate
about football and very good in quantitative makes him darling of class.
Being a Mumbai guy he was faster than us in studies. Travelling in locals in Mumbai
made him faster. But jokes apart he was extremely good in analytical skills. As I said he
came to our college to conquer he actually tried to do so. He had no particular focus on study
but he was a versatile student he was good in studies also he was good in football. He was a
part of our college football team and represented out college to Hyderabad. Viraj was very
emotional for his parents he always said that he wanted to give his parents everything they
want. He had some hobbies like swimming, football and travelling.
In life trust is very crucial thing & on whom you trust also matters alot. Viraj actually
has this weakness of trusting people blindly. This weakness suffered Viraj very badly I don’t
know how but he removed it slowly. Well all is well that ends well; Viraj had some classic
achievements these were:-
Sports :
State level swimmer. Completed Dharamtar (Alibaug) to Gateway of India
(Mumbai) 36kms in 8 hours 30 mins.
Participated in cricket tournaments at university level (Mumbai University).
Academic
1st class in BE.
Won mathematics competition at district level.

Bade Bhaiya.....
Rishi Jaitly....
Sometimes in life you come across some persons who have some qualities which you
would like to possess. I met Rishi in my B- School and day by day I came to know different edges of
his character. His sit was just after me, so naturally we share very good memories. Most of these are
about finding different aspects of CASE. He has a charm and intelligence, his intelligence caters all
subjects not like me whose mind only works in some subjects. According to me Rishi was a person
who loved life and enjoyed life as it came. He believed in present so he used it wisely. He strongly
believed that if we manage to improve our present our future will be even better. He was a person
having strong moral values and believed in the morals he had inherited from his parents. He was an
ultimate optimist. Also at the same time he was an opportunist.
Rishi was elder to us which made him a respectable personality in our group. We used to call
him BABA. I don’t know who gave this name but our class liked that name and our Rishi became
BABA.
Also as he liked to make his managerial skills perfect he used to organize and run different
events in Entrepreneur Club. I would say, Rishi was a creative and determined person. He had good
communication skills which helped him in various ways like communicating and presenting himself
very accurately before people.
Speed with decent productivity is what a market demanded at that time. Rishi wanted each
thing at its perfect level. He believed in perfection. I don’t know whether it will be right to comment
this or not but this habit of perfection reduced his productivity. To gain this perfection he used to
work for hours and hours which made him WORKOHOLIC. But he tried to work on these
weaknesses and he was successful in that. After looking into his achievements we can get an overall
idea about his perfection and hard work.
12
Sports :- Silver medal District level Karate Championship.
Cultural :-
Participated in many National level Cultural Fests.
Founder and Drummer of Band named Jsaba during Graduation.
Performed at various stages with different music bands
Also was the drummer of IBS Pune Band by the name Rudraksh
Other
Participated in various social welfare events since childhood.
Got appreciation certificate from HRM ministry regarding the same.

Battein kam.....kaam jyada
Khalilullah...
In our group Khalil was the only person who liked to talk less. I never found him chatting and
spending time with anybody in college after college hours. He was a BBA Graduate from Pune
University and had a decent academic record. Like the old line in English TALK LESS AND
WORK MORE, Khalil liked to study and explore different terms in finance rather than wasting his
time with our useless talks.
His ambition was to become a business man and responsible person. He worked for that by
reading more and more. One think I found interesting about Khalil is that he never quits. He had poor
communication skills but he covered that weakness within 1 year by reading newspaper and by
starting communicating in the class. As he was an introvert we knew very less about him. Khalil liked
reading, listening music and travelling . He had travelled various places of North India. I think
Khalil’s strength was his ability to work hard and a sense of responsibility. He had pretty decent
achievements which helped him to grab his ambitions.
Academic : in my graduation(BBA) he reached up to top 5 student
Other: He received award from the MIT Arts, Commerce and Science College -
Alandi, Pune in participation of AVISHKAR 2011.

Ms. Gumshuda
Deepatai Ilme
Well well well.... this was our interesting character. Deepatai (Dipika) was totally bindhass
girl. She always loved freedom; freedom of thought, freedom of style, freedom of everything. We
came in her contact at second semester of our course because in first semester she couldn’t attend
college.
Dipika was originally from Bhandara, a small city in Maharashtra. She completed her BCA
from Pune University and with ambition of securing decent position in operations field she joined our
college. Of course because of strange name she got attention in class very fast. Her hobby included
Reading books, travelling and Listening Music. Well because of her bindhass attitude she had number
of friends in our college it helped her to overcome her problem of poor communication skills.
Laziness was the biggest problem in her. She usually tried postponed her assigned work.
She had achievements like
Sports
Participation in 1st Tug-Of-War Championship,Palam,dist.Parbhani ,2007.
“Grandpa, you had great friend circle, you told me about everyone , but you never told about
yourself. Tell me how you were at the time of your B-School . ?” He said. And I got puzzled
but still somehow I started.
15
MAIN AISA KYU HOON....
NITISH PANDE...
I personally believe that life flows with its own rules we cannot change or alter it.
From childhood I had dream to become an engineer but fortunately or unfortunately I was not able to
clear cut offs so I decided to pursue BCA from Pune University so from this incident I learned that
decisions have to make with respect to practical aspect rather than what your heart says.
I grew up in small town but fortunately I had best faculty in my school days which helped me
throughout life. When I entered into my B-school my first fear was how will I survive with so much
competitive environment? But again here my AMIGOS helped me. They helped me in every aspect.
Whenever I needed their support they did not say NO. I think I have pretty good presentation skills
which got practiced in my B-school through presentations and other activities. With great AMIGOS
and excellent faculty I made communication skills one of my strong areas which helped me every
time. Humour is the best medicine in stress. This requirement has made my sense of humour strong
which helped me to gather plenty of friends and increase my network. I made reading my hobby to
gather knowledge of different domains though I did not have a niche for any particular writer. I like to
read anything which is fresh and interesting. From my school days I have writing as my hobby I used
to write for local newspaper which made base for my writing capabilities. As far as my strengths are
considered flexibility also has some shares. I can adjust with any group of people which helped me to
make myself adaptable. I think I had many weaknesses I cannot express myself to that extent which
required; this made me introvert sometimes.
“NEVER RAISE YOUR VOICE JUST IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF YOUR
ARGUMENTS.”
I hate to boast about my achievements and I am allergic with those persons who boast about
themselves. Well I had ambition to secure a position as a public relations / marketing professional in
order to utilize my administrative, marketing, and interpersonal skills with accuracy and efficiency.
16
With some of my strengths I was able to achieve these achievements
Academic: -
Won 1st prize at science exhibition in school for 2003-04.
Gold medal in debate competition at school.
Represented school at district level for science project.
Sports: -
Runner up in table tennis competition in Sinhgad Karandak 2009-10

Successfully completed Live Project for Softronikx in C# language.

AFTERWORD
“Grandpa I never thought you had so many interesting friends, you must have great time with
them. “ he said after listening all these stories. “Of course those 2 years were very special for me. I
simply cannot forget it and though we are apart now we are still in contact via mobile. “ I replied.
“Don’t you miss them? “he asked, “ Undoubtedly I do”.
“Grandpa, then here is the surprise “he said by clapping his hands suddenly door of our
house got opened and my son & daughter in law came with 8-9 old persons I put my glasses on and
was shocked by seeing my all “AMIGOS”. Tears rolled down from old eyes and I started chatting
with my AMIGOS.
