Colombia and Medellin Overview Colombia is located in northwestern South America, bordered by Panama, the Caribbean Sea, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and the Pacific Ocean. Colombia is the 26th largest country by area and the fourth largest in South America after Brazil, Argentina and Peru. With over 46 million habitants, Colombia is the 27th largest country in the world by population and has the second largest population of Spanish-speaking country after Mexico. Colombia is considered the fourth-largest economy in Latin America and the third-largest in South America. Colombia is famous for the production of coffee, flowers, emeralds, coal and oil. All of these products make up the primary sector of its economy. Ecologically, Colombia is one of the World's 17 mega-diverse countries and is considered the most mega-diverse per square kilometer.

HSBC, the world's second largest bank, released a perspective on the world’s economic outlook of 2050, in which Colombia is foreseen as playing a decisive role in the global economy, especially in the Americas. Columbia aims to become the 25th largest economy in the world by GDP standards. This group has been called CIVETS. Today, Colombia is the fourth-largest oil producer in South America, and it is estimated that it is producing a million barrels per day.

Human insanity induced deforestation and it has started to creep into the rainforests of the Amazon zone and the Pacific coast; it has substantially changed the Andean landscape. Deforestation is also linked to the conversion of lowland tropical forests to oil palm plantations. However, compared to deforestation rates of neighboring countries, deforestation rates in Colombia are still relatively low. In urban areas, contamination of the local environment has been caused by waste and the use of fossil fuels. Participants in the country's armed conflict have also contributed to the pollution of the environment. Illegal armed groups have deforested large areas of land to plant illegal crops of narcotics; with an estimated 99,000h (382 square miles) used for the cultivation of

Page 3: AMERICAN SOFTWOODS MEXICO OFFICE ExpoCAMACOL 2014 ... · The purpose of this trip is to exhibit in XXI Expo CAMACOL, Feria Internacional de la Construcción, Arquitectura y el Diseño

coca leaves. The government has fumigated about 90% of these crops using hazardous chemicals. Insurgents have also destroyed oil pipelines creating major ecological disasters. Demand from rapidly expanding cities has placed increasing stress on the water supply, as watersheds are inevitably affected and ground water tables fall. Nonetheless, Colombia is ranked fourth in the world by magnitude of total freshwater supply and still has large reserves of freshwater.

Colombia is divided into 9 legal communities and a few indigenous zones with legal right to exploit the native forest without any reforestation program, with (as of 2010) approximately 376,000h (1,451 square miles). Some of the forest species that are considered local are Eucalyptus, several species of Pine, Teak, Acacia and Melinas. Unfortunately, the actual production is not enough to supply the domestic market; therefore, consumers have to import pulp for paper and lumber for the construction industry. For this reason, 92% of the pulp is imported, and 42% of the lumber production in Colombia is illegal.

Illegal lumber represents a major problem because the government has failed to stop deforestation and this illegal production. This is an important fact that shows us the reason that Arauco – a Chilean company – which has been in the region over three years, has sales of about $ 22.3 million U.S. dollars during this period.

Colombia, with the help of the United States, has fought the FARC and besieged them into the Amazon jungle, significantly reducing the drug trade and kidnappings within Colombia. This joint operation with the United States is mainly through what is known as Plan Colombia. Another foreign relations policy centers around expanding their international markets and managing their international issues with other countries. Colombia enjoys special financial preferences from the European Union in certain product categories.

Colombia was one of the 12 founding members of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), which is supposedly modeled on the European Union; having free trade agreements among the members, free movement of people, a common currency, and also a common passport. Colombia, as well as all the other members of UNASUR, has had some problems with the integration due to the 2008 Andean diplomatic crisis. Colombia is a member of the Andean Community of Nations and the Union of South American Nations.

In spite of the difficulties presented by serious internal armed conflict, Colombia's market economy grew steadily in the latter part of the Twentieth Century, with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increasing at an average rate of over 4% per year between 1970 and 1998. The country suffered a recession in 1999 (the first full year of negative growth since the Great Depression), and the recovery from that recession was long and painful. However, in recent years growth has been impressive, reaching 8.2% in 2007, one of the highest growth rates in Latin America.

According to International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates, in 2011 Colombia's GDP (PPP) was $471.9 billion USD (28th in the world and third in South America). According to the World Bank, the richest 20% of the Colombian population has a 60.2% share of income/consumption, and the poorest 20% in 2010. On the same report, 15.8% of the Colombians lived on less than $2 USD per day.

Historically an agrarian economy, Colombia urbanized rapidly in the Twentieth Century, by the end of which just 22.7% of the workforce were employed in agriculture, generating just 11.5% of GDP. About 18.7% of the workforce is employed in industry and 58.5% in services, responsible for 36% and 52.5% of GDP, respectively. Colombia is rich in natural resources and its main exports include petroleum, coal, coffee and other agricultural products, and gold. Colombia is also known as the world's leading source of emeralds, while over 70% of cut flowers imported by the United States are Colombian. Principal trading partners are the United States (a controversial free trade agreement with the United States was approved on October 11th 2011 by the United States Congress), the European Union, Venezuela and China. All imports, exports, and the

overall balance of trade are at record levels, and the inflow of export dollars has resulted in a substantial re-valuation of

Page 4: AMERICAN SOFTWOODS MEXICO OFFICE ExpoCAMACOL 2014 ... · The purpose of this trip is to exhibit in XXI Expo CAMACOL, Feria Internacional de la Construcción, Arquitectura y el Diseño

the Colombian peso.

Colombia has free trade agreements with Chile, Panama, Canada, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras and just recently with United States and is a trade organization member with the Andean Community, Group of Three, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Agreement and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

After a year of starting the Colombia-USA Free Trade Agreement, Colombia now is preparing to sign another free trade agreement with another major player: The European Union. The goal is to get into the club of the big economies. Both parties have been negotiating this FTA for over 7 years now. They expect that on the 4th of July there will implement it in a provisional way, while it receives all the legal approval from each of the countries that belong to the European Union.

Colombia is an economy that still depends on raw materials. Colombia has also a free trade agreement with Canada and other similar commercial agreements with Latin America and Asia. It represents the fifth country in Latin America able to attract foreign investment.

The main challenge for Colombia will be to overcome its main dependency of the raw materials that represent 70% of its exports to USA, and second, commercial members representing 15% of all purchases.

For Columbia, the entrance of the Free Trade Agreement with the United States on May 15, 2012 represents the beginning of a new era of big challenges, especially in the commercial sector, because it was a year of reorganizing different sectors that has been protected by the government and now they face changes, as well as some other sectors that will take longer to adapt. In the meantime, the government will be making adjustments, so these sectors get stronger and could be able to compete and, hopefully, be more productive.

In the FTA, 99% of the industrial products will be free of tariff rates and the companies will have to follow the new rules regarding quality and phytosanitary guidelines and certifications, language and packaging different products to be able to be exported.

Before the FTA takes full effect between Colombia and the United States – there is a maximum of 10% tariff rate, which will decrease within a pre-arranged timetable. Both parties believe that importing legal timber will help reduce illegal logging in the country. Right now, lumber distributors have lumber and panels from China because it is primarily a price-driven market, but there is also a niche that procures products from Chile, since these markets demand quality.

The Colombian officials have expectations that as soon as they will be able to import wood with the Free Trade Agreement, the Colombian furniture exports will increase. The Colombian government is promoting and facilitating investment in reforestation in the country.

The Labor Council from both countries met the first week of July to check that all the agreements are taking place as it was installed from the FTA. They are still checking the technical assistance and multilateral cooperation and taking special interest on the labor chapter. The total tax exemption of the tariffs will take five years, so Colombia’s different sectors will be acclimated to the new competition.

The gradual tax exception on the crop tariffs will be affected because those products (before the FTA) didn’t have any competition, due to the lack of infrastructure. The imports of USA products into Colombia are increasing a lot, compared to exports. As an example, the imports of the farming sector

Page 5: AMERICAN SOFTWOODS MEXICO OFFICE ExpoCAMACOL 2014 ... · The purpose of this trip is to exhibit in XXI Expo CAMACOL, Feria Internacional de la Construcción, Arquitectura y el Diseño

grew in 70% in one year, and the sales from Colombia to USA grew only 11%, according to USDA records.

Expo CAMACOL 2014 International Tradeshow The XXI edition of ExpoCAMACOL Antioquia, the Construction, Architect and Design tradeshow that took place in Plaza Mayor of the exposition and convention center was 24,000 square meters of exhibition space with more than 90 symposiums from August 26th to August 30th, 2014. The tradeshow was organized by the Regional Antioquia, Construction Chamber from Colombia, a chamber that was founded 57 years ago.

This year, the tradeshow had 53,970 visitors, of which 1,317 were international visitors from 58 countries, mainly from Ecuador, USA, Venezuela, Peru Guatemala and Spain. The tradeshow had 12 pavilions of exhibitions and 440 exhibitors in construction systems of different products and construction materials that are environmentally friendly. Two countries with a notable presence were Peru and Portugal. The number of international visitors was up by 15% compared with the previous year’s version of this tradeshow. The number of exhibitors was up 20%, having 440 companies exhibiting at the tradeshow, including companies from Colombia and also from Portugal, USA, Spain, Peru and Italy. There were three days of conferences; 102 seminars were presented from 66 companies.

The international mission PROEXPORT was integrated by 201 potential purchasing companies from 24 countries that generated business for $169.9 million USD, in countries such as USA, Panama, Guatemala, Chile and Ecuador. Also there was a national mission from other counties present, representing Popayán, Barranquilla, Bogota and Cartagena, both type of business encounters generated $200,000 million USD.

Regarding attendees, this event had an increase of almost 10,000 people from the previous edition, from 44,411 to 53,970 this year. About 1,317 were international exhibitors that came from 58 countries.

During the show, we were busy almost all the time attending and hosting people that either were aware of our products or wanted to know more about them. Some of these visitors already use our products and some only sell them, and some others have seen them but haven’t used them. Members that attended the show were of great help providing attendees with information on the different lumber species and panels.

Some attendees were looking to buy SYP for wood-frame housing construction, some other attendees mentioned that they sell mainly lumber from the region and also buy SYP from a local distributor. Some of them mentioned that SYP is stronger than Radiatta pine and preferred to use it for structural purposes.

Other attendees were looking for green forest certificates, as well as green certificates for the lumber. A group of people inquired about LEED Certificate Counselor. Most of the attendees that buy Patula pine – the local Colombian pine – mentioned that they didn’t know about SYP, but wanted to begin to handle it. They have also seen OSB, but were using it for decoration purposes and not for structural applications.

Some builders wanted to buy construction materials such as HDO/MDO. Some others install decks and some use lumber from the region and others use SYP that they buy from local distributors. Architects showed interested in glulam beams for roof framing.

Another attendee mentioned that he had never used USA products and would like to begin to handle these products. He currently buys Chilean lumber and panels; he is very interested to know about the process. His company is a furniture manufacturer, using wood for indoor and structural uses.

The most requested softwood lumber species at the show was untreated SYP; however, a few attendees requested information about treated SYP. OSB was a very popular panel product. There were also some attendees interested in plywood, as well as glulam beams for structural projects in Medellin. Builders showed interest in handling HDO and MDO, and wanted to know more about these panels.

An attendee that has 90 retail stores in Colombia for construction materials and is one of the largest lumber

Page 6: AMERICAN SOFTWOODS MEXICO OFFICE ExpoCAMACOL 2014 ... · The purpose of this trip is to exhibit in XXI Expo CAMACOL, Feria Internacional de la Construcción, Arquitectura y el Diseño

distributors in Colombia was looking for plywood, pine lumber and OSB providers from USA.

There were some attendees that wanted to know if we give courses – seminars of technical information regarding panels and lumber for wood housing construction and /or other uses such as lumber grades and panel specifications. Others wanted seminars on sustainable wood housing, lightweight construction; most do not know much about building with American softwoods.

There were a few attendees looking for lumber for pallets; some of the questions that were raised during the tradeshow were about the different heat treatments that exist for SYP.

One attendee was looking to urgently buy SYP; he is currently buying Patula pine and wanted to buy SYP instead and wanted to get in contact with USA lumber distributors.

Some of the problems that attendees mentioned were sizes; they use metric sizes. Chilean lumber, as well as the local lumber that they are used to, comes in metric sizes and not in inches. Some had problems to know the different treatments to be used and also the technical specifications for using OSB to build a house. For that reason, some attendees requested that, next year, a seminar be given that can talk about sizes and also address wood housing construction systems using panels and lumber.

A lumber distributor that has 34 stores was looking to get in contact with USA suppliers of lumber and panels. They mentioned that 80% of their lumber is treated and they import a lot of the construction materials that they handle. Among the construction products they handle is plywood, MDF and Chilean pine.

A furniture manufacturer that manufactures booths uses plywood, and was looking for certified OSB to use it for one of his clients that requires OSB to export boxes. Another manufacturer that sells box springs was looking for OSB and I-joists; he mentioned that they are currently buying some OSB from an AMSO member.

A builder located in Chile wanted to buy OSB directly from American suppliers. Another builder wanted to buy HDO and MDO directly from American suppliers, and begin selling it in Colombia. Finally, another builder that uses lumber for his constructions wants to use OSB; they are building wooden cabinets and they are buying beams from Chile, as well as I-joists.

An attendee mentioned that he knows about SYP and OSB, but that they buy it from China and Brazil and was looking to buy other type of plywood, as well as lumber, and wanted to know get in contact with USA companies that can sell them these products.

During the tradeshow, some furniture manufacturers were looking for lumber to use it in door frames. Also, there were questions on how to use panels such as OSB and plywood for furniture and structural purposes and attendees wanted to know the characteristics of them. There was one furniture manufacturer that was looking for lumber to use it in door frames; he wanted to buy two containers, and mentioned that he would like to begin to import it directly from American suppliers. Another attendee mentioned that he is using tropical wood and does not know much about SYP or American panels and would like to know about all American materials used for wood-frame housing construction. Some architects were looking for plywood and lumber to use for roof framing.

An attendee from Ecuador mentioned that he buys pine from Chile and would like to get in contact with USA lumber producers, especially SYP producers, and that he is also very interested in panels.

Some attendees were looking for marine plywood.

This year was the first year that we participated in this tradeshow that is held every other year. We were located in

Page 7: AMERICAN SOFTWOODS MEXICO OFFICE ExpoCAMACOL 2014 ... · The purpose of this trip is to exhibit in XXI Expo CAMACOL, Feria Internacional de la Construcción, Arquitectura y el Diseño

Gran Salon room, in this pavilion where finishing architects, kitchen, lumber, doors, panels, hardware and glass suppliers were exhibiting. The visitors included architects, engineers, designers, decorators and interior designers, distributors, installers, construction workers, operators, professionals of the sector, national businessmen and foreign buyers, associations, and trade unions.

Expoconstrucción y Expodiseño is associated with Expo Construcción in Bogota – the two largest and most important tradeshows for construction and materials in Colombia, which promotes the concept of sustainable construction and interior design, as well as promoting environmental conservation and sustainable architecture.

During the tradeshow, there were more than 26 parallel academic activities that were in line with an approach based on providing updates about industry trends and developments worldwide.

Some exhibitors in Medellin located in the Main plaza had wood housing cabinets and small constructions all made up of lumber. In some of these constructions, they were using Patula pine. In three of them, they were using SYP (in most of cases, treated), but we were able to find some untreated SYP. In these constructions, they were using USA OSB panels for the roofing, as well as for walls.

Also during the tradeshow, there were some companies selling lumber from the region, and very few selling lumber from other countries such as USA or Chile. We were able to find companies selling HDO and MDO panels from Europe. Most attendees liked our booth because we were giving them an idea of integral construction systems using all the different American materials.

Some of the exhibitors mentioned that in Colombia the construction sector continues to show growth and they see it reflected in the good projects that are under construction in Colombia. The demand for housing is still growing, so the builders are offering a wide diversity and quality type of buildings that, in most of the cases, are environmental friendly.

We also had the opportunity to better understand the Medellin market, not only during the tradeshow, but also with last year’s trip to attend the show in Bogota, plus this year at the seminars, in which we were able to meet builders, architects, civil engineers that use our products. We concluded that the status of the construction sector in Colombia is getting better and is a growing market.

Some of our attendees were looking forward to getting in contact with USA companies that offer different types of lumber and panels for the Colombian market, because the Chilean lumber sales conditions sometimes are not fair and price increases are quite substantial, and payment conditions are not all the time very fair. To aggraviate the equation, sometimes lumber is not available and there is not a wide variety to choose from. This year, one year after signing the free trade agreement with USA, importers, furniture manufacturers, builders are getting enthusiastic about buying directly from USA and to learn about the different lumber species, grades and end uses.

Some of them wanted to have some quotes and some wanted to visit lumberyards in USA to know better what they want to buy. In Colombia, the lumber market for tropical species (which is more and more scarce) is available green; Radiatta pine from Chile is the most available in the market. The people that cannot import it directly wanted to know where they could buy it in Colombia, some importers wanted to handle all the products for different uses such as making furniture, and for concrete forming and pallets.

The most-requested specie at the show was SYP, either treated or untreated, for structural purposes such as wood-frame housing construction and also treated lumber for decks, marinas, plus termite resistance for wood cabinets. Furniture manufacturers and designers showed interested in Ponderosa Pine, Spruce, Douglas-Fir and Hem-fir for furniture and

Page 8: AMERICAN SOFTWOODS MEXICO OFFICE ExpoCAMACOL 2014 ... · The purpose of this trip is to exhibit in XXI Expo CAMACOL, Feria Internacional de la Construcción, Arquitectura y el Diseño

indoor uses; they liked the grain of the lumber and the pictures displayed on the finishes of these species.

Regarding panels, OSB was the most requested panel, followed buy HDO, MDO phenolic panels for multiusers for concrete forming. Another panel that really caught a lot of interest was Glulam beams that represent a great opportunity with the architects. This was due to innovative designs and builders engineers and architects wanted to have them available in Colombia and some of them wanted to buy it directly to begin to apply it to their projects.

The purpose of exhibiting at this tradeshow in Medellin, Colombia, is to give to the attendees AMSO product information. In most cases, attendees were lumber distributors, as well as architects, engineers and builders among others. During the tradeshow, we wanted to create awareness that OSB has alternative applications other than decorative purposes, but more oriented toward structural purposes. We believe we made them realize that building in this way could be less expensive, faster and easier. Also, we promoted the use of SYP either treated or untreated for structural purposes and for outdoor applications. In some cases, furniture manufactures showed interested in Ponderosa Pine, White pine and Douglas-fir to manufacture furniture. We noticed that there was a lack of knowledge and some of the attendees didn’t know the different species grades, uses, treatments and panels in the different construction applications and grades.

SEMINARS During the tradeshow, American Softwoods organized a seminar on August 28th, 2014 for all AMSO products. For this purpose, AMSO brought Huck DiVenzio to speak about different treatments for SYP regarding termites, outdoor structures and projects in contact with water. Lon Sibert talked about the SYP grading system and Fernanda Vale gave a speech on APA panels, its uses and different applications, mainly referring to OSB, the panel that is most-often used in Colombia.

Mrs. Vale opened the seminar and showed samples of different panels in construction applications, either houses or buildings. Some of the attendees were very impressed with the presentation, especially because they are used to seeing OSB in furniture applications and not in wood-frame housing construction.

The second speaker, Huck DiVenzio, talked about all the different treatments and how the lumber is treated, as well as the consequences for not treating the lumber in humid areas. Attendees showed interest to know about these processes and the differences between them.

Finally, Lon Sibert talked about the USA building codes and how to apply them in Colombia and the different grades that need to be used for this purpose. He also talked about the different agencies that grade the lumber such as SPIB, TP, WWPA, WCLIB, among others. He talked how the US lumber is graded depending on its use such as appearance, remanufacturing and structural. Attendees asked questions about the different grades, and also about the lumber grain and the strength of the lumber.

During the Q&A portion of the seminar, it came to our attention that although one of the attendees had a poor experience with the importation of SYP from the US, that he is satisfied with the arrival of SYP to the Colombian market to break the tradition of poor quality and “fraud” (his words), relating to the representation of native Colombia softwoods (Pinus Patula - for the most part).

The purpose of organizing these seminars in Medellin, Colombia, is to give to the attendees AMSO product information; in most of the cases attendees were lumber distributors, as well as architects, engineers, end users and builders among others. In most cases, they handle our products but didn’t have all the facts. Attendees found the sessions to be very useful, especially for the sales people who needed this kind of information.

Our largest competitors are South American products, and with seminars like this we are able to differentiate our products from competitors and provide accurate information. We wanted to create awareness that OSB has alternative applications other than for just decorative purposes, but that it is suited for structural purposes. We believe we made them realize that building with our products could be less expensive, faster and easier. Also, we promoted the use of SYP either treated or untreated for structural purposes and for outdoor applications. Furniture manufactures showed

Page 9: AMERICAN SOFTWOODS MEXICO OFFICE ExpoCAMACOL 2014 ... · The purpose of this trip is to exhibit in XXI Expo CAMACOL, Feria Internacional de la Construcción, Arquitectura y el Diseño

interested in Ponderosa Pine and Douglas-fir to manufacture furniture. We noticed that there was a lack of knowledge and some of the attendees didn’t know the different species, panels and the different structural applications for which panels and lumber can be applied.

TRADESERVICING During the tradeshow days, we visited Tienda Triplex, a panel distributor. They are beginning to handle also lumber. They sell mainly to the construction sector, but also to the furniture manufacturer sector. They handle plywood, MDF, local lumber, concrete forming structures, doors, and some other hardware materials. They have seven stores and one warehouse that is also a store. They sell to the retail market and are a medium-sized, family-business lumber distributor based in Medellin. They also sell Chilean lumber and panels at their facilities. The Chilean lumber is marked as a "furniture grade" with no wane, clean and bright stock, with mostly live knots and with notable clear wood sections between the knots. It was said that this represented #4 Chilean grade, which meets different standards to US #4. Dimensions observed included lumber lengths of 3.2 and 3.96 meters (10.5 feet & 13 feet), and S4S Sizes: * 20 mm x 89 mm (~3/4” x 3 1/2”) & 20 mm x 240 mm (~3/4” x 9 1/2”); * 33 mm x 140 mm (1.3” x 5 1/2”), with stencil saying "1.5 x 6”; 33 mm x 190 mm (1.3” x 7 1/2”); * Observed packaged stenciled as 2x3 x 3.2 m. It measured just shy of 1 5/8” x 2 9/16” (41 mm x 65 mm) by 10.5' They were very pleased that we visited them at their facilities with our members. In this way, it was easy to get in contact with different AMSO members that handle different products. They showed a lot of enthusiasm to greet SYP suppliers, as well as suppliers of panels.

Recommendations and/or Accomplishments With our strategy to continue penetrating this market, we strongly recommend attending both tradeshows in Colombia, the one that took place this year in Medellin and also the one that will take place in Bogota next year in May. This tradeshow is the biggest construction exposition in Medellin and the second biggest in Colombia and has the largest, quality attendance. We strongly recommend that AMSO participate in the 2016 edition (The trade show is every other year) and also participate in both tradeshows that will take place next year. Both shows provide good quality contacts and also we also do a follow up on the contacts that we contacted during the seminars. Using these contacts, we develop a stronger relationship with them and also begin to promote American softwood lumber and panels in Colombia. Especially with many different South American companies at this show, we can begin to get contacts from these companies, making it easier to promote our products in additional countries.

It is noteworthy, that a couple of representatives of Arauco visited the American Softwoods booth. AMSO should build on Arauco’s success and complement their product mix, finding those niches that American Softwood can uniquely serve. In comparison to furniture Radiata, our SYP fills wood needs from appearance grades to furniture grades to construction lumber. We must continue to promote these aspects of our products. We are competing with Radiata that is marketed as for furniture, bed frames, door jambs, moulding, frames, toys, artisanal and architectural carpentry, industrial uses, and even construction.. And mainly and most importantly, with the enforcement of the Free Trade Agreement that Colombia has with USA, (when all stages of the agreement are fully implemented) it will be less expensive for Colombian lumber distributors, as well as architects, to obtain American products.

Now that we have had the opportunity to conduct the seminar plus the tradeshow to get in contact with some builders, architects, furniture manufacturers, lumber and panel importers, we should take advantage of these contacts and visit them and organize some seminars next year during the tradeshow in Bogota. Also, we can invite our contacts from previous tradeshows and get to know better their needs and help establish a closer professional relationship with them.

We can conclude that we should maintain efforts in promoting American softwoods, not only in the supplier/distributor sector or constructors, but also in certain market niches in the construction markets among architects and interior designers, as specified in the UES, by visiting the architectural colleges in different states and trying to organize seminars in conjunction with them.
