Alternative Presentation of Idea for Community Art ProjectIt is evident that for our community art project that we created a children’s mural for a school playground. The school wanted us to create a timeline of events on the mural to celebrate 75 years since the school opened. To do this we included events and objects that were famous from each decade. It proved successful, but it can be suggested that we could have presented or created the mural in a different theme.

After researching, I found that murals in the form of graffiti are much more popular than ever before. Graffiti is a new expression of art that is very popular and successful amongst young people, or generally people of all ages. I felt that by creating a graffiti mural we would be adhering to this new form of art, and also appealing to young people instead of creating something they may not necessarily like.

As you can see, graffiti can be vibrant and potentially change the way a place or wall is perceived, giving it a unique edge for whatever the reason may be. By using vibrant colours in this form and making bold statements, the children would be drawn to the mural and would enjoy the bold colouring and style.

St Cecilia’s primary school wanted us to create a timeline of events that the school has been through during the 75 years it has been opened. In order to replicate this in an alternative fashion with the graffiti theme, we could still create images of inventions and events that have happened across time. I particularly like this print of graffiti, a bold black print of the image with a touch of other vibrant colours. We could use this concept to create events in time such as the war and the London Olympics.

Banksy

Unit 3 M2

Banksy is a British graffiti artist, whose work has become international, making him one of the most successful graffiti artists to date. With the theme of graffiti, the community project could adhere to an artist (Banksy) and we could therefore create images in the style of Banksy but in a more simplistic and child friendly format. For example, in one of the images you can see there is a child swinging on a rubber ring. This would be easy to replicate in order to fit the themes for our mural, as our mural evidently had silhouettes of children on there. In order to make them into the style of Banksy, we would include white into the silhouettes and include objects for the children to be playing with.
