General description and technical specifications

ALOS is a design photobioreactor, conceived for the home cultivation of microalgae. The light of the ALOS lamp has the dual purpose of illuminating the environment and feeding algal photosynthesis. In this way, it makes your room

aesthetically pleasing and more livable, acting as an air filter and reducing domestic pollution. The microalgae inside the tank constantly consume carbon dioxide, producing clean oxygen.

KEEP THIS MANUAL IN A SAFE PLACE AND CONSULT IT IF NEEDED. THE WARRANTY DOES NOT WORK AND IS NOT EFFECTIVE IF ALL RECOMMENDATIONS SHOWN IN THIS MANUAL ARE NOT FOLLOWED AND OBSERVED.

ATTENTION. These instructions apply to the product and where applicable also to the instruments, accessories, individual components and additional components of the product.

• The manufacturer is not responsible for any damage resulting from improper use of the device.• Remove all packaging and protective materials before operating the device or connecting it to the

power supply.• Use only original components supplied by the manufacturer.• Keep the external surface of the device clean and dry and avoid operating the device in environments

with high humidity or close to direct heat sources.• Pour water and other liquids only into the designated tank and always following the instructions given

in this manual.• Before starting the device, make sure it is connected to an appropriate voltage line and that it is

placed on a flat, solid, stable and not inclined surface.

Proper use• This manual contains important information that must always be respected for the correct installation

and use of the device.• The manufacturer is not responsible for any damage resulting from improper assembly and/or

improper use of the device.• This lamp is designed for indoor lighting in dry rooms. It is not suitable for use in damp rooms, such

as bathrooms.• The lamp is not suitable for outdoor use or outdoor positioning.• The lamp must not be used for direct irradiation of people, animals, or plants.• Do not look directly at the LED light while it is operating.• This product is designed for private and domestic use and is not suitable for commercial use.• The device is designed for an average operation of 8 hours a day. Do not operate the device

continuously for more than 8 hours.• Continuous operating periods beyond 8 hours can wear out electronic components. For longer daily

operations, turn off the device for at least 1 hour every 8 hours of operation. Do not use the device for

Risk for children, people and animals• Keep the device out of the reach of children and do not leave children unsupervised in the proximity

of the device.• Keep packaging out of the reach of children - risk of suffocation.• Make sure the device is assembled correctly before each use.• Do not touch the device while it is operating as it may be overheated - risk of burns.• Do not look directly into the light to avoid eye damage.• The device is not suitable for the direct irradiation of people.• Allow the device to cool down before replacing any component and/or before putting it away.• Be careful when inserting and replacing components - risk of damage and risk of injury.• Keep the device out of the reach of animals. Positioning• Place the device at least 20 cm away from flammable materials.• Always place the device on a flat, solid, stable and not inclined surface.• Do not subject the device to extreme temperatures, sudden changes in temperature, direct sunlight

or humidity.• Prevent falls and strong impacts.• Keep the device away from heat sources, such as fireplaces and ovens.• Make sure that the device cannot fall into water and that the base is always dry and clean.• Do not compress the power cord with furniture or other weights and make sure it is always straight. Do

not place the cord under rugs or other flammable fabrics.

Damage to devices and materials• Do not cover the device for any reason, for example with sheets or blankets.• Use only original components corresponding to those indicated in this manual.• For the replacement of components, exclusively contact the Customer Service or authorized

distributors.

Risk of electric shock• Keep the device away from sources of moisture.• Connect the device only to power outlets corresponding to those indicated. Do not overload the

device.• Connect the device only with the connectors supplied by the manufacturer and / or authorized

resellers / distributors.• Keep the device away from wet surfaces.• Do not touch the device or connectors with wet hands.• Make sure the device is not damaged before each use. Do not use the device if it is damaged, even

if only slightly.• Do not disassemble the device and contact authorized repairers or distributors only.• Disconnect the device from the power socket before any maintenance, cleaning, and repair operations.• Unplug the device from the power outlet during long periods of non-use.• Unplug the device from the power outlet during storms, thunderstorms, or bad weather.• In order to disconnect the device from the power outlet, disconnect the plug. Do not pull or yank the

cable.• Do not use the device if the structure and/or the electrical connectors are damaged, even if only

slightly.• Immediately proceed with the repair of damaged or worn electrical connectors, only contacting

authorized repairers or distributors.• Contact only authorized repairers or distributors for the repair and/or replacement of damaged cables

and any other component of the product.• Any interruption of the protective conductors inside or outside the device can make it dangerous.

Interruption and/or tampering are forbidden and determine the ineffectiveness of the guarantee.• The capacitors inside the device could remain electrified and could pose an electric shock hazard even

when the device is disconnected from any voltage source.• The use of unauthorized components and intentional short-circuits are forbidden and result in the

ineffectiveness of the guarantee.

Setup

1. Place the product on a flat surface and remove all packaging

2. Remove the wooden cap located on the top of the wooden frame

3. Remove the operating core and remove the acrylic splash guard placed on the top of the glass tank

4. Bring 1.5 liters of tap water to the boil. Allow to cool down to room temperature.Alternatively, use bottled, refined, microfiltered or softened water. Do not use osmotized, demineralized, deionized or distilled water

5. Pour the whole content of the algal starter into the glass tank. The microalgae provided are harmless to people. In case of accidental contact with microalgae, wash the area with soap and water.

6. Pour the water at room temperature into the glass tank up to 5cm from the upper edge.In case of accidental spillage of water, immediately dry wet surfaces. Make sure the base is completely dry before connecting the device.

7. Reposition the acrylic splash guard on the top of the glass tank and relocate the operating core inside the frame, making sure that the orientation is correct, paying attention to match the jack socket coincides with the hole in the wooden chassis

8. Reposition the wooden cap on the frame, making sure that the orientation is correct

9. Connect the power plug to the power socket and the jack to the base of the device.

The device is ready for setup.

Please note: handle the operating unit holding it firmly with two hands and exclusively by the glass tank, and never by the aluminum base, as reported in the „Proper use“ section

With the app is it possible to:

To install the application:

1. Download the ALOS Lamp application available on iOS and Android, or scan the QR-code below2. Make sure your phone is connected to the Wi-Fi router and that bluetooth is turned on3. Make sure that the device is switched on4. Follow the instructions on the application to configure the device

Operativ manual

Cultivation of microalgae

ALOS is a living system. The growth, state of health and effectiveness of the contained microalgae depend on the conditions in which they are grown and the care given by the user.

1. To ensure optimal algal growth the device must be kept at room temperature in a well-lit room.2. To ensure optimal performance of the device, it is advisable to carry out routine maintenance (see chapter “Ordinary Maintenance” on p.12) every time the culture becomes turbid (image at the bottom of the page) and in any case at least once every two months.3. Algae can tolerate from a minimum of 6 hours to a maximum of 20 hours of direct and/or indirect lighting, and a temperature from 18 ° C to 24 ° C.4. Algae naturally tend to sink to the bottom. To ensure suitable algal growth it is recommended to keep the aeration active for at least 8 hours a day.5. It is possible to accelerate algal growth by increasing exposure to light, aeration and temperature within the limits indicated in point 3. Similarly, it is possible to slow down algal growth by reducing the same parameters. Continuous operating periods beyond 8 hours can wear out electronic components. For longer daily operations, turn off the device for at least 1 hour every 8 hours of operativity. Do not use the device for more than 14 hours a day.6. In case of poor health of the culture (pale colour, diluted culture, rapid and abundant deposits) for extended periods of time beyond 2 weeks, refer to the chapter “Troubleshooting” on p. 18.

In order to ensure a correct operation of the device, it is necessary to carry out periodic maintenance at least every 6 weeks. However, it is recommended to carry out maintenance every time the crop reaches the maximum concentration, as shown in the figure.

In the image above: indicative example of algal growth. The times indicated in the image are purely illustrative, and the growth rate can vary greatly depending on the conditions to which the device is subject.

Ordinary maintenance

1. Turn off the device by pressing the switch on the cable or alternatively through the dedicated app

2. Disconnect the lamp and remove the wooden cap located on the top of the wooden chassis

3. Remove the operating core and remove the acrylic splash guard placed on the top of the glass tank

4. Transfer the liquid into a container avoiding to grab the operating core by the aluminum base

5. Carry out the algal inoculum in the same way as described in the „Installation“ chapter (page 8):

- Measure out 1.5 L of water and bring them to a boil alternatively, use the same types of water indicated in the “Installation” chapter - Let the water cool until it reaches room temperature - Pour approximately 200 mL of the liquid set aside in step 4 into the tank - Pour the water into the tank up to a maximum of 5 cm from the edge

6. Reposition the acrylic splash guard on the top of the glass tank and relocate the operating core inside the chassis, making sure that the orientation is correct

7. Reposition the wooden cap on the chassis, making sure that the orientation is correct, and making sure that the jack socket coincides with the hole on the wooden chassis

8. The device can now be connected and switched on again

9. The remaining liquid can be used to fertilize your plants. Alternatively, before pouring it into the sewer system, it is good to add half a glass of vinegar to inactivate the algae

Water evaporation is a normal phenomenon and has a greater impact in warmer and more illuminated environments. If the water level drops excessively, fill the tub with fresh water up to a maximum of 5 cm below the edge

Device cleaning

To ensure correct device functionality following long periods of inactivity, the following procedure must be followed:

1. Turn off the lamp by pressing the switch on the cable or alternatively through the dedicated app

2. Disconnect the lamp and remove the wooden cap located on the top of the wooden chassis

3. Remove the operating core and remove the acrylic splash guard located at the top of the glass tank

4. Transfer the liquid into a container avoiding to grab the operating core by the aluminum base

5. To clean the outside of the glass, use a clean microfibre cloth. For internal cleaning, remove any deposits with a damp cloth and rinse 2-3 times with clean water. For a more thorough cleaning, add half a glass of alcohol or vinegar to the first rinse

6. Any algae deposits can be gently removed with a damp cloth.Let the device dry

7. Reposition the acrylic splash guard on the top of the glass tank and relocate the operating core inside the chassis, making sure that the orientation is correct

8. Reposition the wooden cap on the chassis, making sure that the orientation is correctKeep the device in the dark in a cool, dry place

9. The remaining liquid can be used to fertilize your plants. Alternatively, before pouring it into the sewer system, it is recommended to add half a glass of vinegar to inactivate the algae

Warranty

This warranty is provided by the company ALOS S.r.l., registered with the Bolzano Chamber of Commerce number REA BZ - 230550 identified by VAT / C.F. 03081630216 (the „Seller“) to the original purchaser of the product identified on the invoice issued by the Seller for the original purchase (the „Product“).

1. Introduction1.1. The Seller guarantees that the Product, if delivered in new condition and with original packaging, is free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. It is up to the Seller, in its sole discretion, to determine whether a Product is defective based on its overall performance.1.2 The beneficiaries of this guarantee are exclusively consumers who have purchased a product under guarantee after the entry into force of the same guarantee - fixed on the date of 01/03/2021 - and during the effective period of these guarantee conditions within of the warranty territory (better specified below), provided that the purchase was not made for commercial purposes and / or for independent professional activity (ie commercial use, commercial resale or commercial installation by third parties, etc.).

2. Object and requirements of the guarantee2.1. The Seller guarantees, in accordance with the provisions of these warranty conditions, that the Product - subject to paragraph 2.2 - is free from defects in workmanship and material within the respective warranty period.2.2. The warranty applies only to the original product under warranty delivered in the original packaging, together with the original accessories included in the original packaging (if any). It is specified that this guarantee is not valid in relation to used products.2.3. The warranty right is valid only if the product covered by the warranty has always been used within the limits permitted by the user manual and if the product has been installed, put into operation and used according to the instructions provided in the user manual itself.2.4. The warranty period begins on the date of purchase by the warranty taker.

3. Exclusions from the warranty right3.1. This limited warranty does not apply to loss or deterioration of the Product due to negligence, abuse, improper use or misuse, improper installation, storage or maintenance, damage due to fire or natural events, vandalism, civil unrest, power surge, incorrect power supply, current variations, installation in corrosive environments, harmonic oscillation or resonance associated with the movement of air currents around the Product, modifications, accident, failure to comply with the instructions relating to installation, use, maintenance and environment prescribed by the Seller or by the commonly applicable regulations regarding electrical systems and devices, improper interventions on the Product by third parties other than the Seller or authorized service centers.3.2. This warranty excludes labor and service charges related to the repair or replacement of the Product.3.3. It is specified that this warranty is not valid and does not operate in any way if the Product is used for purposes other than those for which it was made and / or in a manner that does not comply with what is stated in the user manual.

3.4. The Seller reserves the right to examine, at its sole discretion, the validity of the warranty request.3.5. In no event shall the seller be held liable for incidental, compensatory, consequential, indirect, special or other damages. The overall liability of the Seller for a defective product will in no case exceed the amount paid to the Seller for the aforementioned defective product.

4. Rights deriving from the guarantee4.1. The rights deriving from this guarantee are granted to the beneficiary of the guarantee identified in accordance with paragraph 1.2. to the extent that:a) a manufacturing or material defect within the meaning of paragraph 2.1 has occurred, within the warranty period and the claim requirements referred to in paragraph 2 are met,b) the reasons for exclusion referred to in paragraph 3 do not exist;c) the beneficiary of the guarantee has asserted the right to the guarantee in accordance with the procedure indicated below.4.2. If the Seller determines that the Product is defective, the Seller has the right, at its sole discretion, to refund the purchase price of the Product, repair the Product or replace the Product.4.3. For the purposes of repairing or replacing the Product under this warranty, the Seller reserves the right to use new, restored, refurbished, repaired or transformed components or products. These products and components are comparable in terms of functionality and performance to original products or components, as determined by the Seller in its sole discretion, and guaranteed for the entire remaining time of the original warranty period.4.4. 5. Modification of the warranty conditionsThis warranty is valid for purchases of the Product made starting from the effective date indicated below. Any modification of this guarantee will be applied to all orders concluded with the Seller starting from the effective date of the modified guarantee.
