ALL VOICES NEED, SEE YOU THERE

Choir Practice Begins Thursday, Sept 6 7:00PM-9:00PM In Church

NEW MOVIE: “SEXUAL REVOLUTION: 50 YEARS SINCE HUMANAE VITAE” This new film highlights the fall-out of the 1960s cultural changes in light of the Catholic Church’s prophetic teaching in the 1968 document Humanae Vitae on marriage, sex, parenthood & birth control. The groundbreaking film also examines the parallel development of the Pill and Natural Family Planning. The movie was inspired by the true-life story of recording artist & pro-choice feminist Alana Newman, a young woman born by anonymous donor conception. Searching for the truth about her biological father leads to a profound conversion when she discovers Humanae Vitae & Theology of the Body. The film features interviews with Dr. Janet Smith, Helen Al-varé, Dr. Peter Kreeft, Christopher West, Abby Johnson, Archbishop Charles Chaput, and the doctors who developed modern Natural Family Planning. Sexual Revolution will be shown free of charge at Cedar Lee theater in Cleveland Hgts on Sun., Oct. 21 at 4pm – & at Holy Rosary Church on Mayfield Rd in Cleveland on Tues., Oct. 23 at 7pm with discussion afterward. For more info, go to SexualRevolutionMovie.com and the Holy Rosary Church Facebook page.

Pastor Notes

“A ngel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me

here. Ever this day be at my side to light, to guard, to rule and guide.” Most of us learned this short prayer as children to invoke the care of our Guardian Angels. As we grew older, it may have seemed rote and maybe some of us have dropped praying to our Guardian Angel altogether. Bit praying to our Guardian Angel expresses most profoundly our belief in God’s undying care for us. This care, of course, is God’s way of showing us how much he loves us. Even in the midst of earth-damaging storms such as Katrina and Rita where much suffering and privation is the order of the day, God’s angels are still present exercising His undying care and concern. Often this takes place in the kindness and generosity we show to others in need. I take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks for all you do to support Assumption Parish. Without your contributions, we would be unable to offer the programs that are currently available. The availability of the various ministries beyond the basic Sunday Liturgy is directly proportionate to the funds that your generosity provides. Currently our parish is in very difficult financial straits. We are using monies set aside for a rainy day to make ordinary expenses, and this is never a good situation. One of these funds is about to be used up completely. Central to our parish’s financial stability is the Sunday Offertory Collection. Several years ago, we as a parish embraced the Grateful Giving program where parishioners pledged to contribute a bit more in their offertory donations to Assumption. For a while this was successful, but it seems to have been forgotten because we are now facing the same issues as we did before Grateful Giving, in fact, even a bit worse. I deeply appreciate the sacrifices you make on behalf of Assumption Parish. Just as in your own homes the cost of every-thing increases, we face the same challenges here. We as a parish are doing all we can to be wise stewards to the funds you entrust to us as we pray for God’s blessings on you and your families for your generous kindness. In St. Benedict, Fr. Justin, O.S.B.

T S L C is pleased to present the follow-ing faith talk at Assumption Parish on October 10, 2018 Catholicism and Protestantism Come and discover the differences between the Catholic and Protestant world view on how we understand: * Faith * The Bible * The Moral Life * The Necessity of the Church * How We Worship * Why all religions are not the same and the privilege it is to be a Catholic. The presentation will begin at 7:00pm in the Fellowship room and be at least one hour in length. The talks will be given by fellow parishioner Mike Dosen and are free of charge; feel free to bring a friend. All talks will be recorded and available on www.buriedtreasure.us

D ’ C “Whoever is not against us is for us.” Mark 9:40 Today’s readings call our attention to where we see the action of God’s spirit, whether in friend, foe, or ourselves. Jesus says, “Whoever is not against us is for us.” Mark 9:40. If someone does good rather than evil, manifesting the values of Jesus, see God’s spirit there. You may discover a model for how to live Jesus more clearly yourself. Rash judgement or over-reaction, like that of the disciples, often blinds us to those models, especially when some-one doesn’t fit our expectations. Think about the picture of Muslims in the Middle East, who surrounded Christian churches to protect them. Think about people who hid our Jewish sisters & brothers in an attempt to save them from the Holocaust. Think about 9/11, the recent hurricane in the Carolina’s, and the fires in California, all those first responders from all faiths & no faith, entering crumbling buildings, torrential rains, hurricane winds, and raging fires, embodying the Spirit of Jesus, whatever their faith, culture, or way of life. We are called to manifest the Spirit of God, to all in need no matter who they are, or what they believe. Would that all people of faith clearly manifested the Spirit! Would that more people were willing to be surprised by God’s presence! St James reminds us that we are called to respond to the cries of the least, the last, & the lost, to be as concerned for others as we are for ourselves. Too often, self-centeredness, dividing who’s in and who’s out too hastily, fear of change, or habitual sin can fill our hearts. Full, there is no room to see God everywhere. Make room for God. Cut off or pluck out whatever takes God’s place, what-ever limits us. Emptied turn to God for eyes that see the Spirit, especially where we least expect. “Whoever is not against us is for us.”

A R S Thank you to all that attended the Clam Bake Friday.

The food was great as was the fellowship. Maria Fodor, Donna Klein, and Kathy Kafcsak

R E Mrs. Barbara Tomusko, Directory of Religious Education October – dedicated to the Holy Rosary It can be said that there are only 2 paths in life: to serve yourself, or to serve others. If we focus on others, we find God because He exists in us (or rather, we all live in Him). However, if while we are alive, we serve only to advance ourselves and focus only on fulfilling our own desires, we will never know true happiness and we won’t find God - because we don’t have room for Him in our life: Our possessions and obsessions will have taken over His rightful place. Monday we celebrate the Feast of St Therese of Lisieux, who sought to honor and glory to God in all of the small-est and simplest of everyday tasks. God was in the mix! Let us take our example from St Therese, and also Mother Theresa of Calcutta, who encouraged us to “do small things with great love. Gr 7 & 8 Preparing for Confirmation this Spring – There will be an important Parent Information Meeting on Sun. Sept 30 at 7pm in the Family Ctr for all 7th and 8th Graders and a parent. Sponsors do not have to attend this meeting. Q & A session will follow. Blessing of Pets Sat., Oct. 6 at Noon in the school lot. Treats and medals for the pets and refreshments for owners. Join Fr Lou-is in honoring St Francis and acknowledging God’s love for us in His creation of animals for us to love and protect. Pre K PSR will begin on Sun., Oct 7 at 10:15am in the school. The instructor is Miss Monica Brandt. Children aged 4-5 learn about this beautiful world God created for us, and how Jesus showed us the way to live in peace, with love for others and our-selves. Weekly lessons include a story from Scripture, basic pray-ers, and a craft project along with a music lesson with Mrs. Setele every other week. Each semester ends with a Para Liturgy celebra-tion and a social hour for families. Tuition is $35. Dear Assumption Parishioners and Families,

N ow that October is upon us we will be concentrating on two themes with our students. Respect Life is a major theme this

month and will be included in our instruction throughout October. Inspirational quotes from St. Teresa of Calcutta have been very meaningful to me as a Catholic school principal. I would like to share one with you this week. “If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are.” October is another month of the year when we honor and recognize Mary, our Mother, by praying the Rosary. October is often overlooked because we honor Mary in May. Through our class instructions, the rosary will be taught, explained and recited. We also have a few activities of note for this first week in October. Our 8th graders will be traveling to Holy Name HS Wed., Oct. 3rd to hear a speaker talking about Teen-Age Relationships. Thursday the 4th is Picture Day. Students are permitted to dress-up for pic-tures. Our Jr. High students will have a dance on Friday night. They always look forward to this rockin’ time. Students have been invited to have their pets blessed on Saturday the 6th at 12Noon. (Thank you St. Francis of Assisi). In Christ’s Name, Mr. William DiBacco, Assumption Academy Principal
