Dear Parents and Carers

As I write this letter this morning, the sun is shining, and the ham stone of All Saints

looks stunning against the blue skies. Spring is on its way!

Please find below the news from each class this week.

Acorn Class

This week saw Acorns begin their new topic all about our 5 senses! We began this

week with our sense of sight. We talked about how we use our eyes to see; we looked

carefully at our eyes in a mirror, drew pictures of them and added some labels. We

have learnt about our eyes working together with our brains to help us see different

colours. We carried out experiments to create our own rainbows using water and food

colouring as well as exploring colour mixing with paint to make rainbows! Some of the

children in school were so excited by our rainbow experiment that they carried out their

own at home, too. Well done Acorns for returning after half-term with such enthusiasm

towards your learning.

Class 1

Class 1 have been excited about our new Talk for Writing story this week! I have heard

and seen some fantastic retellings and some super story maps. Our story is 'The Magic

Porridge Pot'! We had a fun time thinking about what our homes would be like if they

filled with porridge.

In maths this week we have been looking, comparing and ordering numbers within 50,

and finally counting in 2s.

We have enjoyed learning about rainfall in science, and we made a rain gauge to

measure the rainfall in our area.

Class 2

Class 2 had a very busy week just before half term. We are still

thinking and learning about our topic ‘From A to B’ and this week

we were learning about a myth called Icarus. Icarus needed to

be able to fly to escape from the tower, but he did not listen to

his father and ended up flying too close to the sun! Isla drew a

wonderful picture on j2e showing how he fell into the sea when

the wax on his wings melted.

Kora made a collage story sequence of

the whole story and Ella made her own

labyrinth from wool. We really enjoyed

this story.

Continuing with our science work on materials we thought about how different materials can change and then return to a similar state. We made chocolate crispies and looked at how the chocolate was a solid then turned into a liquid before turning into a solid again.

Amelie and Kitty enjoyed baking and eating their creations! Science was a definite favourite this week!

Class 3

This week in Class 3, we have started to learn about the second part of our Active Earth topic – Earth Shattering. We have been researching tornadoes and earthquakes ready to write explanation texts next week. We enjoyed finding out about the Storm Chasers and their amazing armoured cars too!

We listened to a piece of music that Mrs Bowditch recommended and made wordles or pictures that showed what the music made us think of.

In French, we have been learning how to say different numbers up to 31. The children have been making posters, practising calculations and playing bingo using their knowledge.

Class 4

In R.E this week, we made salt dough diva lamps as part of our Hinduism work. We explored Diwali, the festival of light, and recognise why it is such an important part of Hindu’s life. Following our work on instructions before half-term, we enjoyed using the imperative verbs and creating our diva lamps.

This week we have started a new unit in English. We have begun by immersing ourselves in the book ‘The Egg’. Following this we created story maps with our own symbols ready to imitate part of the text next week. We are all thoroughly enjoying our new book and using Talk for Writing as a tool for writing.

Class 5

Class 5 have been working exceptionally hard on fractions before and after half term. It has been wonderful to see the diligence and perseverance of the class when answering questions and challenges. Furthermore, I was delighted to see that the modelled methods and strategies used in the lessons are being demonstrated in the children’s working out. Well done Class 5 !

Maya Temples

As part of our study of Maya settlements and temples the children were challenged with creating their own Maya temple in a creative way. It is clear to see that there was a certain idea that came to many members of the class. Class 5 have learnt that the temples or Maya pyramids were important buildings. They were made from stone, they were sacred and built to please the gods.

Class 6

In Class 6 we have started a new computer unit using a programme called Tinkercad in which we can explore 3D modelling. This week we learnt how to import, view and move 3D objects. Here are some of our creations!

In art this week we have been exploring grid drawing. The children chose the picture

they wanted to copy and used the grid to help them draw it. Next week we will be

learning and looking at how different tones can help to make our drawings look

realistic.

Our science unit on the circulatory system is coming to an end. We have learnt lots

about our heart, its function and how to keep healthy. We have even made posters to

promote healthy living.

We are finishing the unit by looking at

the negative impact that drugs and

smoking can have on the way our

bodies function.
