Dear Parents and Carers, I can’t believe that we are entering the last month of the academic year. This is always a busy time both for the children and staff, however we endeavour to make it a memorable one, particularly for those children and families for whom this will be the last half- term as part of the ‘All Saints family’. Sports Day Thank you to Mr Flynn for organising our Sports Day on Thursday 22nd June. It was wonderful to see the children show-casing all the different aspects of PE that they have developed throughout the year. Thank you to all those of you who were able to join us for the afternoon. A reminder that After School Clubs finished last week, so please ensure the school office are informed of any changes to the bus register. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Friends’ and Governors’ School Barbecue on Friday 7 th July from 6.00-8.00pm. Parking will be available on the school playground as the event will take place on the school field (weather permitting). Please can I ask that you park considerately and do not block any drives along Yeovil Road, at the end of the access road, or in Townsend. It is paramount that we have good relationships with our neighbours and often parking can be a cause for concern of our neighbours. When driving onto the playground, please do so slowly as there will not be parking attendants available during the evening. Dear Parents and Carers,

I can’t believe that we are entering the last month of the academic

year. This is always a busy time both for the children and staff,

however we endeavour to make it a memorable one, particularly

for those children and families for whom this will be the last half-

Acorn Class

The successful hatching of 6 little chicks recently caused great excitement in Acorn class and has

continued to stimulate discussions and activities about animal life cycles and caring for living

things. The children have observed the growth and development from egg to chick and been part

of the caring process of understanding what the chicks need to stay healthy. The children took part

in a whole class vote for naming the chicks which included; Raspberry, Moana, Fluffy and John.

They’ve written labels to describe them including Grace who wrote “Fluffy is yellow and soft.”We’re

so pleased with how well the children have responded to the chicks, showing such gentle, loving

behaviour towards them. Well done Acorn Class.

Area Athletics

Area athletics took place on June 8th and All Saints were represented by a fine group of athletes.

Everyone worked really hard and there were some incredible performances in the sprints and field

events. All Saints finished a very credible 6th out of 12 teams. Obviously Athletics club with Mrs

Lawrence and Mrs March is paying off!

Swimming Gala

The Yeovil Primary School Games Association Swimming Gala took place on Thursday June 29th at

Goldenstones. A small squad of All Saints swimmers took part with some excellent individual swims

and relay team swims! After a tense finale All Saints finished 3rd out 12 teams! Many thanks go to

Mrs Sharp and Mrs Harvey for helping to organise and run the whole event. A special mention goes

to our other BWMAT school, Holy Trinity who pipped us into second place! It was wonderful to see

them sharing in each others success, as you can see from the photo below. Well done to everyone

involved!

Class 5

As part of our topic 'The World is our Oyster' Class 5 have been learning about some

of the world's largest mountain ranges. This has led to some fantastic writing oppor-

tunities including leaflets about Ben Nevis, descriptive story writing based on a short

film and some stunning mountain poetry. Here are some examples of the amazing

writing the children have produced!

Class 3

On Tuesday 13th June, Class 3 had a wonderful school trip to Wells Cathedral. As they saw the

first glimpse of the Cathedral there were certainly a lot of amazed faces! As part of our R.E work

we looked at how the Cathedral is part of the community as well as how it was built. We learnt

many interesting facts during our tour of the Cathedral. Did you know that Bible stories are told in

the stonework columns? The children’s favourite story was the grape stealer shown around one

arch in the Cathedral. The class asked many thoughtful questions and joined in well during

discussions. Many members of the public commented on the children’s superb behaviour

throughout our time there and I too was extremely proud of how well Class 3 represented All

Saints School. A fantastic day was had by all. Mr Ross

Class 4

As part of our Amazing Amazon topic, Class 4 have been studying the Amazon river and the

Rainforest. The children have produced some fantastic persuasive writing and put forward their own

persuasive arguments with some wonderful language and persuasive features.

Just this week, Class 4 visited Longleat where they were given the fantastic opportunity to discuss

the animals, habitats and conservation projects occurring in the Amazon Rainforest. Following this

session, the class were then able to discover facts about the animals and project that are occurring

at the park. There was even time for the children to enjoy all the fun that Longleat has to offer.

The children were really well behaved and asked some insightful and thought-provoking questions.

We will now use the information we discovered to produce some topic-focused writing.

Class 6

Year 6 have been working hard within our topic about the General Election. We split the class up

into the four main parties and each group campaigned within the school with rosettes, posters,

manifestos and campaign speeches. Each party had a speech to impress the voters and the level

of knowledge and research in the speeches was fantastic.

After the speeches each class was given their right to vote in our special polling station. The

election was hard fought with the Conservatives winning; however without a majority government,

much like the real election!

After this Class 6 used the data from both the real election and the All Saints

election, comparing and contrasting just like we have seen in the newspapers

and on TV. Overall it was a very fun week with everyone immersing themselves

into the Election.

Class 1

As a conclusion of our "Animal Allsorts" topic Class 1 visited Monkey World. The children were bril-

liantly well-behaved and really enjoyed themselves. We saw squirrel monkeys, gorillas and spider

monkeys to name but a few! We also saw some chickens and a deer too - quite an unex-

pected treat!

To round off the day we had our own fun monkeying around in the play area and, again, the

children behaved exceptionally and were a real credit to the school. Well done Class 1 and thank

you to all involved.

A word from Revd Annie

It was great to see lots of you at the Montacute Church Fete and also at the brilliant Village Voices

concert for Macmillan nurses at St Catherine’s recently.

We are now looking forward to welcoming Year 5s and 6s and their

families to the Leavers service at St Catherine’s – Mr Flynn and the

Year 6 students have some special items to share with us, and the

church (and others) will have a presentation for all leavers.

I shall personally be very sorry to say goodbye to one special leaver – Mrs Park, who has made me

so welcome at All Saints in the last 18 months and has been a great colleague as we have worked

together – everyone at St Catherine’s thanks her for all she has contributed to this community and

wish her very well for the next stage of her career.

Family services over the Summer : Both July 2nd

(11am) in Odcombe and July 23rd in Montacute

(10am) will be on the theme of Noah’s ark and God’s Promises, so feel free to come as an animal –

two by two, of course (face-masks provided).

August 27th (Montacute) will be an Outdoor service starting with crafts in the graveyard at 9.30pm

followed by a walking service/rogation (dogs on leads welcome). All our family services are relaxed

and brief, and finish with refreshments.

Over August Bank Holiday, St Catherine’s will host both a Flower Festival (‘My Favourite Music’)

and a Saturday night Montacute version of Desert Island Discs. For details of all our services and

activities do check out the website www.hamhillchurches.org

A reminder that Prayer for Schools continues on First Mondays 9.15am at St Catherine’s for coffee

and prayers for all local schools – there is a children’s area if you’d like to bring pre-schoolers.

For those who prefer something quieter and space to reflect – do consider Night Light – an hour of

Candlelight and soft music at St Peter and St Paul, Odcombe, 8pm on Sunday 2nd

July.

Meanwhile, hope you all have a brilliant end of term and Summer holi-

day.

As always, if you or your child would like to speak to me about any faith-

related subject or if I can help you plan a special service for your family,

please get in touch.

Every Blessing,

Friends of All Saints

Thank you to everyone who helped to decorate, walked with the float, helped to pack up following

the carnival, drove the tractor, or came out on the evening to support the school. It was a lovely

evening and the children really enjoyed the night,

Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help, however we still need help at the BBQ.

You should have received a slip asking for your help at the School Barbecue, please do sign up for

a slot if you are able to – many hands make light work! If everybody could spare half an hour to

help all the stalls could be manned and everybody would be able to enjoy the barbecue with their

families.

As well as this you should have also received a hamper donation request and raffle tickets to sell.

Thank you in advance.

Please also remember we continue with the lolly sales in the playground every Friday after school.
