about 30% incoming class each fall. Fall 2005: 1077 FY. Total: about 2400, 1900 in spring 2006About the same number of FY students were on Deans List as probation This is keeping with the university wide percentages for FY students. We are all interested in the retention of students. Per UK Office of Instit Research: The one-year retention rate is widely regarded an important indicator of institutional effectiveness. The overall first-year grade point average turns out to be the best predictor of whether a student returns to UK for a second year.Thirty percent of first-year students who failed to return the following fall to UK were suspended, mostly for academic reasons. So we began to focus on these students. In 2002 we offered success workshops small group, 6 weeks, early in the semester. In 2003 semester-long classes were offered through our College of Educ. Only a small number of students could take advantage of these opportunities. We decided that we needed to reach more students.

Those are advising in the colleges where those majors are located.Everyone always asks well how many Pre-Med students do you have.We have a revolving door, since the pre-health profession we advise are not a major, there could be a premed student who has never met with our office who applies to medical school and a student who meet with us Freshmen year who decides to pursue another route never comes back to see us is technically no longer premed. But to get an idea of the number students we serve we host an freshmen-new student premed meeting every fall and we around 100 students attend. 140-150 Student taking the MCAT from UKIncrease from70-100 use our service for letter of recommendationsApply to Allo Accepted to Allo

Pre-College Students and ParentsVisitor Center -When prospective student are visiting the UK campus they can schedule and appointment to speak with a pre professional advisor. In this individual appointment we tell the prospective student and their parents what services we provide. We give them a handout, mentioning our website and our contact information. WE talk with them about pre med, pre dent or pre opt as being a direction and not a major. At UK they will have an advisor in their major as well as coming to us with pre med, pre dent or pre opt issues. We talk about the requirements and the normal sequencing for taking those courses. Specialized group presentations- Come see for Yourself is a like a college fair for minority students interested in UK. We are at one of the many tables set up giving out information.

Transfer and Career ChangersCommunity Colleges- We respond to many emails as well as meeting individually with students from the Community colleges that are considering transferring to UK to complete their undergraduate career while fulfilling requirements for pre med, pre dent, pre opt.

Career Changers- We respond to many emails as well as meeting individually with adults that are considering a career change.

OutreachWE work with the UK admissions office by participating in Preview Nights and Transfer Days Preview nights are where we go out on the road to different locations in the state to let prospective students know about UK. It is a college fair atmosphere where we are at one of many tables giving out our information. The Health Professions colleges are also represented. We work in coordination with them. Transfer Days are also coordinated through the admissions office. They also are a college fair atmosphere set up at a community college. WE are there giving out our information.Pre-College Students and ParentsVisitor CenterSpecialized group presentations

Campus and Community ConnectionsVolunteer SheetStudent Involvement CenterStudent OrganizationsKathyAs the cruise directors we like to meet with our students that have checked in to see if they are participating in the on-board activities. So usually during our second or follow up meeting we discuss:How their on board activities are goingWhich on board activities they are participating Are they involved in getting health related exposure. Have they been volunteering at one of our local hospitals or at a hospital back home during a break? If a pre dent student have they participated in Saturday Morning clinics at UKs Dental school? What other activities are they involved in ? Ronald McDonald house, sorority/ fraternity philanthropy, Dance Blue, Student government?Check in on academicscurrent GPA, science GPA. If need a boost are they aware of campus resources.Have they done research or are they planning to do that in the near future. Are they connected to the pre professional organizations (Pre med AMSA, Alpha Epsilon Delta, Pre Dent Society or Foresight) and networking with students that are older but have the same goals. Have they been networking with professors, getting to know them, wont be long until they need those letters of recommendation.

DanitaGetting ready to go to their destination

Most people who get a cruise have a destination in mind. My job as cruise director is to assist student to theirShore excursion. So students meet with me during the Junior or Senior year before applying (sometime while applying) to their professsional program. At this point we

Assessing everything youve done it is at this point the time to discuss the procedures to get to your appropriate destination. These meetings are sorda pre-departure orientations.

During theses pre-departure meeting we we discuss in detail the application process, The timeline to which to apply,Timelines are very important at this point, have I complete all the pre-reqs before the MCATWhen do I study aboardWhen and how to prepare for MCAT< DAT
