Southeast Area Command...• OfficersMcBrayerandHernandezutilizedan

undercover vehicle to patrol a neighborhood in anefforttoapprehendburglaryoffenders.Theyissuedtwocitationsfordrinkinginpublic,oneforpossessionofdrugparaphernaliaandmadeonefelonyarrest.

• OfficerLopezconductedlasertrafficenforcementonCentral/WellesleyinanefforttodecreasespeedersandtoenforceDWIlaws.Sheissuedtwocitationsandonesummons.

• OfficerThomaranahighvisibilitypatrolonCentralbetweenRichmondandBrynMawrontheAugustweekendstocurtailbarfights,vandalism,andtheft.Hemadenumerouscontactsandstoppedseveralfightseachweekend.

• OnAugust3,OfficersOlivaresandA.Garcia conducted a tactical plan in the area ofWashingtonbetweenIndianSchoolandConstitutiontoreducetheamountofvehiclesspeeding.Fourcitationswereissued.

• OnAugust19,OfficersA.GarciaandA.Olivaresconductedatacticalplaninsector32inordertoidentifyandrecoverstolenvehiclesinthelicenseplatereader-equippedcar.Theofficersrecovered1stolenplateandread1,000plates.

• OfficersM.SmithandD.PachecoworkedcloselywithHomelandSecurity,ICE,andCustomsintheinterdictionofpiratedDVDsresultingintherecoveryofover50,000DVDsvaluedatabout$500,000.Theofficersassistedintheservingandexecutionofsearchwarrants.

• OnAugust15,OfficerM.SmithwasflaggeddownbyanunidentifiedAPSemployeewhotoldOfficerSmiththatamaleataCentralandLouisianabusstopwasthreateningpeoplebyswinginghisskateboardatthem.Theoffenderalsohitapassingcarwiththeskateboardandbrokethewindshield.OfficerSmithrespondedtothebusstopwherehelocatedthemalewiththeskateboardoverhishead,threateningamalewhohadhishandsupandwasbackingawayfromthesuspect.OfficerSmithapproachedthemaleandremovedtheskateboard.AsOfficerSmithwassearchinghim,helocatedcreditcardsbelongingtoawomanUponfurtherinvestigation,OfficerSmithfoundthatthewoman’svehiclehadjustbeenbrokeninto.The

suspectwaschargedwithconcealingidentity,disorderlyconduct,andtaking/receiving/orpossessingstolencreditcards.

• OnAugust5th,OfficerD.LucerowasdispatchedtotheUNMareainresponsetoaforgedprescription.Thesuspecthadbeenadmittedtothehospitalandfoundtobeinpossessionofaforgedprescriptionforhydrocodoneandclonopin.Theprescriptionwascalledintoalocalpharmacy.ThenursepractitionerwhoallegedlywrotetheprescriptionwascontactedbyOfficerLuceroandshedidnotwritetheprescriptions.SeveralotherfalseprescriptionswerediscoveredatthepharmacyandthecasewasforwardedtoSoutheastImpactforfurtherinvestigation.Thesuspectwasalready on parole for fraudulently obtaining a controlledsubstance.HisparolewasrevokedandhewasbookedbyProbation/Paroleofficers.

• OnAugust3,DetectiveJ.SanchezarrestedaCNMemployeeregardingwhitecollaroffensesinwhichtheoffenderandfiveotherswereinvolvedinstealing$10,000ofmerchandisefromCNM.ThiswasanexcellentinvestigationduetothefactthatDetectiveSanchezwasabletoimplicatenotjusttheprimaryoffender,buteveryone involved.

• OnAugust27,OfficersS.SaenzandD.Woeslaw,alongwithSergeantD.Campbellconducted a tactical plan near the area of San PedroBlvd/KathrynAveSE.CitizensintheareahadexpressedconcernsregardingtransientsubjectsatWilsonParkandnearbybusinessesconsumingalcoholandcausingadisturbanceforresidentsinthatlocation.Theplanyieldedfourarrests,fivemisdemeanorcitations,oneDWIarrest,andoneseizedvehicle.

• OnAugust28,OfficerTranwastheprimaryofficeronafatalaccidentwhereamotoristhitthreepedestrianscrossingthestreetatSilverandSanMateo.Oneofthefemalesthatwasstruckdiedatthescenefromheadtraumaandwaspossiblypregnant.ThemalepedestrianwasDavidUffer,sonoftoppropertycrimeoffenderAlanUffer.DavidhadanoutstandingprobationviolationwarrantandwasarrestedafterhewasreleasedfromUNMH.

Foothills Area Command...• InAugust,theFoothillsAreaCommandworked

toincreaseparticipationintheCrimeFreeMulti-HousingProgramforlarge,mediumandsmallapartmentcomplexes.JillGarcia,

• Foothillsofficersconductedatacticalplanthroughout the entire area command running licenseplates,lookingforpossiblestolenvehiclesanddeterringcrimebydrivingthroughresidentialandbusinessareas.Officersran2,378licenseplatesthroughNCICandwereabletorecoveronestolenvehicle.

• OnAugust24,officersweredispatchedtoPresbyterianMedicalServicesinresponsetoacommercialburglaryinprogress.Thecallerstatedtwomalesubjectswereattemptingtobreakintothefacility.Thesuspectsleftthebusiness,andtraveledwestboundonfoot.ThesuspectswereobservedbyofficersneararestaurantatLomasandHotelCircleNE.Oneofthesuspectswastakenintocustodyintherestaurant’sparkinglot.Theothersuspectfledintoalocalmortuaryandwasfoundhidinginacoffin.

Valley Area Command...• OfficerD.Robertoandherrecruitmadean

arrestforcriminaldamagetotheBarelasCommunityCenterofover$7,000.

• Downtownhasbeenverybusywithlarge,boisterouscrowds.Teamsassignedtodowntowncontinuedtomaintainpeaceandorderaswellasconductingnumeroustraffictacticalplansresultinginmanycitationsandarrests.

• OfficersSilvaandApodacamadeanarrestofavandalismoffender.Thearrestclearedatleastfiveseparateincidentsofvandalismthathadoccurred.

• TheValleyPowerTeamcontinuedtoimplementatacticalplanintheareaof3rdandIronandhavemademultiplearrestsfornarcotics.

• Watch2OfficersBurgeandElrickconductedanongoingtacticalplanforCityHousingServices.

• TheValleyImpactTeamfocusedonautoburglariesintheOldTownareainAugust.TheTeamwasabletoarrestasubjectwhowastiedtotenotherautoburglariesinthearea.

• Watch3OfficerPitzeralongwithdayshiftofficersrespondedtoadomesticviolencecallinwhichafemalehadbeenchasedbyherex-boyfriendwithagun.Thevictimwasabletoescapeandhide.Theoffenderhadmadestatementshewouldfindherandkillher.OfficerPitzerconductedaninvestigationandwasabletolocatetheoffenderandtakehimintocustodyafterashortfootchase.

theFoothillsCrimePreventionSpecialist,andLt.ScottLaFayettemetwithmanagersoftheapartmentsandtookstepstobeginthepartnership.Byassistingtheseapartmentcomplexesinscreeningtenants,reportingcrime,addressingcrimeconcernsusingCPTED,andimprovingthepresenceofpoliceofficers,thequalityoflifeforresidentsintheapartmentcomplexesandtheadjacentneighborhoodswillimprove.

• OnAugust18,OfficersM.EspinozaandR.Lockecaughtanautoburglaryoffender.Theywererespondingtoanin-progressautoburglary,whenOfficerLockenoticedafemalerunningfromavehicleinthealleyneartheaddress.Shewaslocatedandtakenintocustody.Thefemaledidadmittobeinginthevehicleandwasbookedinto MDC.

• OnAugust6,OfficerEvansrespondedtotheareaofTomasita&Lomasinresponsetoastrong-armedrobberycallthatjustoccurred.Throughinvestigation,officerslocatedtheresidenceofthetwooffenderswhorefusedtoexittheresidence.AfterAPDSWATwasactivated,thesubjectsexitedtheresidenceandweretakenintocustody.Bothsubjectswerebookedforrobberyandconspiracy.

• OnAugust26,officersrespondedtoanautoburglaryatanortheastlocationthatjustoccurred.Oneoffenderwasdetainedandonefledonfoot.OfficerWalshrespondedtothesceneandthroughinvestigationwasabletoidentifytheoutstandingoffenderandtakehimintocustody.ThetwojuvenileoffendersincustodysubsequentlyconfessedtofiveautoburglariesintheFoothillsAreaCommand.BothsubjectswerebookedintotheBernalilloCountyJuvenile Detention Center.

• OnAugust8,LieutenantT.CarrillofromUnitedSecuritycalledSergeantBarreras.ThelieutenantwantedtoletAPDknowthatOfficersC.RodyandF.Chavezhadbeenveryrespectfulandprofessionalduringhisencounterwiththematalocalapartmentcomplex.ThesecurityfirmneededAPD’sassistanceinescortingseveralsubjectsofftheirproperty.

• OnAugust31,OfficerJ.Maresreceivedaletterof commendation from Chief Raymond D. Schultz.OfficerMareshadrespondedtoanautoburglarywherethevictim’scellphonewithGPScapabilitywasstolen.OfficerMaresfolloweduponthisandwasabletoretrievethestolenphoneandcatchtheperpetrators.

• OfficersKnightandNelsonassistedinapprehendingtworobberysuspectsintheareaof4thandCentralSW.TheofficersalsoapprehendedoneofthemostwantedpropertycrimeoffendersattheAmtrakstation.

Southwest Area Command...• OfficerJ.Brownconductedatacticalplan

atLavalandElementaryregardingspeedingproblems.OfficerBrownissued24citationsandwillcontinuetomonitorspeedthroughouttheschoolyear.

• OfficersGarciaandCandelariapatrolledbusstopsintheareafordrunkanddisorderlyindividualsbotheringthepublicandpanhandlingatcitybusstops.Theofficersissued18citationsandinitiatedsevencallsforrescue.

• OnAugust6,OfficerR.Garciarespondedtoashopliftingcallatalargeretailer.Thecallerhadadvisedthatamalesuspectusedaknifetoforceopenajewelrycounter,takingnumerouspiecesofjewelry.Upontheofficer’sarrival,itwasdeterminedthatthesuspecthadleftthestore.APDDispatchbroadcastthesuspect’sdescriptiontorespondingofficers.OfficerR.Garciametwithstoreemployeesandlearnedthatthesuspectstoleover30piecesofjewelry.OfficerR.Garcia,withthehelpofOfficerK.Napoleone,locatedthesuspectnearthestoreandstoppedanddetainedthesuspect.Officersfound35piecesofjewelryonthesuspect.Themanwaseventuallychargedwithafelonycountofshopliftingover$1,000.

• OnAugust26,OfficerMarquez,Lt.Torresandtwoofficersfromswingshiftencounteredasuicidalmaleinsidethesubstationlobby.Thesubjectwastasedandtakenintocustodyforamentalhealthevaluation.Acriminalsummonswasalsoissuedforthisindividualforchargesrelated to the call.

• AllSouthwestdetectivesconductedwarranttacticalplanstolocateandapprehendwantedfelons.InAugust,nineoffenderswerearrestedforvariousfelonywarrants.Ofthosenineoffenders,fiveofthemwererelatedtoaviolentaggravatedassaultcasethatDetectiveGranthadbeenworking.Fiveoffenderstrackeddowna17-year-oldfemaleandchasedherintohergaragewhereshewasheldatgunpointandseverelybattered.Theoffenderswerealllocatedandchargedwithaggravatedburglary,aggravatedassault,childabuseandconspiracy.

• SeveralofficersandPSAT.Carmanconducted

illegallyparkedvehicletacticalplansduringthemonthofAugust.Enforcementactionsweretakenonallillegallyparkedvehiclesincludingabandonedvehicles,handicappedparking,andparkingonsidewalks.Theywrote158citations,issued28redtags,andseized3handicapplacards.

• OnAugust26,OfficerTafoyarespondedtoanorthwestresidenceinreferencetoabattery.OfficerTafoyarecognizedthatthecasewasakidnappingandanaggravatedburglary,amongothercrimes.Theoffendershadabductedatwo-year-oldboy.OfficerTafoyasecuredthesceneandcoordinatedeffortswithSouthwestImpact,ChildExploitation,andtheGangUnit,toidentifythesuspectsinvolved.Onesuspectturnedouttobethechild’sbiologicalmother.Thesuspectsweresuccessfullytakenintocustodythenextdayandthechildwassafelyreturnedhometohisfather.

• OpenSpaceofficersA.Montoya,P.Hernandez,A.Martinez,andM.Schmidtcompletedseveralsouthwestmesatacticalplans,makingfelonyarrests.OfficersusedATVsnumeroustimesinvariousopenspaceareas.OpenSpaceofficerspatrolledopenspaceareasforautoburglaries,ATVviolations,illegalcamps,andunrestrainedanimals.

Northwest Area Command...• WatchIofficersmonitoredTopTencallfor

servicelocations,conductingtacticaloperationstodetercriminalactivityaswellasqualityoflifeissues.Multiplecitationswereissuedforoffensessuchaslitter,noise,parkingandnuisanceviolations.Thisefforthasseenareductionofcomplaintsinneighborhoodparksaswellashightrafficareas.Additionally,multiplefelonyarrestsweremadeforautoburglary,residentialburglaryandautotheft.

• Trafficcomplaintswerehandledthroughaseriesoftacticaloperationsinandaroundintersectionswhichhavehadahigherthannormallevelofaccidentsreported.Thiseffortledtoadeclineinthoseefforts.Thetacticaloperationalsoledto112movingviolationsbeingissuedalongwithover40parkingcitations.

• WatchIILieutenantReesandareacommandbikeunitofficersconductedaseriesofoperationsinandaroundtheareaofSequoia/CoorsandintersectionssouthtoI-40inanattempt to deter and apprehend property crime offenders.Inconjunctionwiththiseffort,the

ImpactTeamsetupsurveillanceinseverallocationswhichhadbeenidentifiedashighprobabilitycrimeareas.Numerousarrestsweremadealongwithafelonyarrestfornarcotics.

• Severalapartmentcomplexeshaveseenariseinautoburglaryoffenses.Officersfromallthreesquads,bikeunitsandImpactdetectivesconductedknockandtalkoperationsalongwithsurveillanceeffortsinanefforttocurbtheincidents.

• Allthreesquadsparticipatedintrafficoperationsinanefforttocurbaccidentsandcomplaintsforspeedingandotherillegaldrivinghabits.Thiseffortwasfocusedonbusyintersectionswhichareintheareaofresidentialneighborhoodsandschoolsthroughouttheareacommand.

• WatchIIIformedaProblemResponseTeam(PRT).SergeantPatFickealongwithOfficersSeidel,Herrera,BreedenandHathawayweretaskedwithdealingwithmultiplecomplaintsalongtheCoorsBoulevardcorridorfromSt.Joseph’sRoaddtoInterstate40.TheoperationwasinresponsetoareportedhighprobabilityofcriminalactivityfromtheAPDCrimeAnalysisUnitandareacommandCrimePreventionSpecialistPeteGelabert.Theeffortledtothreefelonyarrestsandfivemisdemeanorarrestsforvariousoffenses.Theoperationlastedoneweek.

• TheNorthwestImpactTeamdiscussedhowtocombatincreasesinpropertycrimesintheNorthwestAreaCommand,leadingtoatest-runofthePRT.Duringtheoperation,Impactwasinvolvedwithsurveillanceoperationswhichnettedeightmisdemeanorwarrantarrestsandtwomisdemeanorarrests.Furthermore,ImpactreceivedinformationthatasuspectwasburglarizingvehiclesintheareaofPaseoDelNorteandCoors.Detectivessetupandmadecontactwithanumberofsubjectswhichledtothearrestofoneindividualwhowasdealingnarcoticsandwaswantedonanoutstandingfelonywarrantforburglary.Thesubjectwasafeloninpossessionofafirearmandwasarrestedforthischargeaswell.

Northeast Area Command...• OnAugust11,OfficerD.Wrotenwasdispatched

toanortheastapartmentinresponsetoadomesticdispute.Aninvestigationrevealedthattwinsisterswerefightingoveracellphone.Thedisputeturnedviolentwhenoneofthewomenproducedaknifefromthekitchen

andthreatenedhersisterwithit.Thesisterwentbacktothekitchenandgrabbedsomescissorsandthreatenedhermotherwiththem.Eventually,thewomandroppedthescissorsandleftthehome.Officersdidlocatethewomanandarrestedandbookedherintothejuveniledetentionhomeforaggravatedassaultwithadeadlyweapon.

• DetectiveRoacharrestedtwooffendersforfraudandforgery.Theoffendershadidentificationcardsandcreditcardsfromeightdifferentvictims.Theoffendersalsowithdrewmoneyfromsomeofthevictim’saccountsfromtwodifferentbanks.

• TheNortheastImpactUnitconductedatacticalplanwiththeDepartmentofHomelandSecurity, Coronado Mall Security and the followingretailstores;PacSun,Express,Rue21,Macy’s,VictoriaSecret,TargetandHollister.Fifteensuspectswerearrestedand$3,000ofmerchandiserecovered.

• OfficerT.LaForceconductedatacticalplantargetingshoplifters.Shecontactedandworkedwithseveralbusinesses.Elevenarrestsweremadeandseveralhundreddollarsinmerchandisewasrecovered.

• Team5bikeofficersprovedinstrumentalintheirperformanceastheywereonactivebikepatrolinthenorthparkinglotoftheCoronadoMallparkinglotandobservedasubjectactingverysuspiciousandnotedhewasparkedinahandicapparkingarea.Uponmakingcontact,OfficersVigil,McMurroughandMillerdiscoveredthevehicle’soccupantsweredealingdrugs.Thefemalepassengerwasseentossingsuspectednarcoticsintothedoorcavityandparaphernaliawasseized.Afterfurtherinvestigation,officersdiscoveredthatthevehiclewasinvolvedinakidnappingthatoccurredintheSoutheastAreaCommandwherethevehiclewasstolen.OfficerscontactedtheSoutheastImpactUnitwhoagreedtotaketherecoveryandconductasearchwarrantonthecar.ThevehiclewassealedandstoredpendingSoutheastImpactresponse.

• OfficerD.Spragueconductedatacticalplanregardingamalesubjectwhowaspossiblystalkingafemaleinanortheastneighborhood.Themalewasalsoharassingneighborsinthearea.OfficerD.SpraguewasabletoorganizeaneighborhoodmeetingandworkwiththeCITandFASTTunitstoaddresstheproblem.OfficerSpraguealsocontactedthemalesubject

aboutthematter.Sincehisintervention,callsandcomplaintsfromtheneighborhoodhaveceased.

• OnAugust27,Team6officersweredispatchedtoanaggravatedassaultcallwhereamalesubjectfiredapistolatamanagerofanautopartsstoreafterthemanagerconfrontedthesuspectaboutshopliftingitems.Thesuspectthenranintoalargeretailerwhilehewasstillarmed.Team6officerswereabletocoordinatearesponseandthesuspectwaslocatedinsidethestore.Hewastakenintocustodywithoutanybody being harmed.

• OnAugust1,OfficersM.ShookandK.Churchwereonpatrolwhentheyobservedasuspicioustruckparkattherearofaretailer.Duringtheirinvestigation,theylocatedamobilemethlabinthebedofthetruckandarrestedtwopeople.TheMethUnitandEastsideNarcoticstookovertheinvestigation.

• OnAugust27,OfficersK.ChurchandM.Shookvolunteeredtotakeaninprogressshootingatamen’sclub.Uponarrival,onemalesubjectwasfoundtobeshotmultipletimes.OfficerssecuredthesceneatwhichtimetheViolentCrimesUnittookovertheinvestigation.Thevictimlaterdiedfromhisinjuries.Theoffenderwasidentifiedandarrested.

Violent Crimes Division...• TheHomicideUnitrespondedtoand

investigatedfourcalloutsduringAugust.TwoofthecalloutswereactualUCRhomicides.Additionalcalloutsincludedonemajorcaseandonepoliceshooting.TheHomicideUnitsentsixcasestotheDA’sOfficeforprosecution.TheUnitcurrentlyhas60activecases.

• TheArmedRobberyUnitcleared46casesinAugust,with30ofthosegoingtotheDA’sOffice.TheUnitmadesevenarrests,wroteeightarrestwarrantsandservedsixsearchwarrants.TheRobberyUnithad41newcasesassignedinAugustandreceivedapproximately54newreports.TheUnithas58activecases.

• TheRobberyUnitcontinuedtoworkweeklytacticalplansthattargetedserialrobbers.

• TheRobberyUnitsolvedthecasesinvolvingastringofarmedrobberiesatafastfoodrestaurantchaininAugust.MostoftherobberiestookplaceatthelocationnearCoorsandCentralintheSouthwestCommand.Theoffenderwaswantedforfiverobberies.HewastakenintocustodywiththeassistanceofGang

Unitdetectives.ArmedRobberydetectivesalsoidentifiedfiveassociatesoftheoffenderthatarepossiblyinvolvedinseveralarmedrobberiestoindividuals.

• TheRobberyUnitalsosolvedthecaseinvolvingaserialarmedrobber.Hewaswantedforfourarmedrobberiesandhadwarrantsoutforhisarrest.

• TheRobberyUnitinvestigatedarobberythatoccurredatalocaljewelrystoreinwhichapproximately$300,000injewelryhadbeenstolen.DuetotheinvestigativeeffortsoftheRobberyUnitandassistancefromtheROPUnit,twoarrestsweremadeandapproximately$40,000ofjewelrywasrecovered.

• TheSexCrimesUnitrespondedto14call-outsinAugustandcleared33cases,sending11casestotheDA’sOffice.Therewere26newcasesassignedinAugust.TheUnitarrestedfiveoffenders,servedsevensearchwarrants,andcurrentlyhas48activecases.TheUnitalsoassistedwithseveralviolentcrimescall-outs.

• DetectiveMikeGonzaleswasrecognizedbytheMayor’sOfficefortheoutstandingworkhedidinregardstocaseinwhicha14-year-oldgirlwasbeingsexuallyassaultedbyhermother’sboyfriend.

• TheFASTTUnitcleared31casesinAugust,sendingsixofthosetotheDA’sOffice.FASTTDetectivesreviewed79casesduringthemonthofAugust.TheUnithas8activecases.TheUnitgenerated27domesticviolencereportsandmadefourarrests.Theunitalsoobtainedfourarrestwarrants.TheUnitworkedseveraltacticalplansduringthemonthofAugustandclearedninearrestwarrants.

• TheFASTTUnitalsoconducteda24/7surveillanceoperationoveraweekendtoprotecttwociviliansfromaformerhostileworkerthatsentthemthreateningtextmessages.DuetothenatureofthetextmessagesandarticulatedthreatsthiswasalargescaleoperationthatinvolvedFASTT,SexCrimes,Robbery,andSoutheastImpactDetectives.

• Therewereapproximately49newrunaways/missingpersonsreportedtotheMissingPersonsUnitforthemonthofAugust.TheUnitclearedapproximately78totalrunaways/missingpersoncases.TheUnitalsosentthreecasestotheDistrictAttorney’sOffice.Moretipsandleadshavecontinuedtodevelopinthe118thStreetCase.DetectiveshavebeenworkingswingshifthoursonMondaysandThursdaystodo6


interviewsandfollowupinvestigation.• TheCIT/COASTUnitassisted383individuals

duringAugust.TheUnitcompleted143homevisitsandmade396referralsforsocialservices.TheUnitalsocompleted37threatassessments,ninehazardfilesandcompleted16officersafetybulletins.LieutenantSteveMarezhasbeenassignedtooverseetheCIT/COASTUnitsonatemporarybasisasrecommendedbythePERFReport.

• ForAugust,theCrimesAgainstChildrenUnit(CACU)received779referralsforreviewandpossibleassignment.Thiswasanincreaseof164referralsfromlastmonthwhichrelatestochildrenbackinschoolandwithmoreinteractionwithvariousadultcaregivers.TheUnitcleared89casesinAugust.Detectiveswereassigned74newcases.

• CACUrespondedtotwochilddeathcalloutsinAugust.Onefatalitywastheapparentresultofphysicalabuseandthefatherwasbookedthatnight.Thesecondfatalitywasadrowningduetonegligentparenting.Bothparentswerebookedthatnightaftertheirinterviews.

oneofficer-involvedshootinginAugust.• TheFirearmsUnitcontinuedtoprovidetimely

investigatingsupportforallmanneroffirearmsrelatedcrimes,includingofficer-involvedshootings,homicides,andaggravatedbatteries.TheUnitalsoprovidedkeydemonstrative

aidstotheChiefandcommandstaffregardingterminalballistics,ammunition,andfirearms.

• TheControlledSubstancesUnitcontinuedtomovetowardsanewmethodofcalibrationcheckingthebreathalcoholtestingequipmentusedforDWIarrests.Thenewgascylindertechnologywillreplacethelessstablewetbathsthathavebeeninusefordecades.

• TheNewMexicoDNAIdentificationSystem(NMDIS),received1,033newconvictedoffender/arresteeDNAsamplesinAugust,withacumulativetotalofover73,000collected.1,010sampleswereanalyzed,datauploadedandsearchedinCODIS,withacumulativetotalofover67,000searchableDNAprofiles.Thesenumbersreflectanincreaseofgreaterthan100%fromthepreviousnormalvolumeofsamplecollectionandanalysiswhencomparedtofiguresfromthelastfiscalyearandisdueexclusivelytotheenhancementsintheNewMexico“Katie’sLaw”.Asaresultoftheseoffender/arresteesamples,19unsolvedcaseswerematchedtooffender/arresteesandthreecase-to-casematchesweremade,resultingin22investigationsbeingaided.Thefirsttwopost-Katie’sLawenhancementmatchesweremade.

• AlsoonAugust10,theROPUnitperformedsurveillanceofamanwhowaswantedforanarmedrobberyinLosLunaswhereagunshotwasfiredandahostagewastaken.ThemanfledtheresidenceastheSWATteamwasattemptingtoformaperimeter.Themanwaslater apprehended in the area and turned over to LosLunasofficers.

• OnAugust23,theROPUnitarrestedamanandawomanwhowerebothwantedforoutstandingfelonywarrants.Theywerelocatedatanortheastlocationandtwosearchwarrantswerelaterexecutedontheirroom.Twoloadedhandgunswerelocatedandjewelryfromarobberyatalocalgoldandsilverexchangewasrecovered.

• OnAugust10,GangUnitdetectiveswereabletolocateTremaineRichardson(whohadbeenontherunsincetheGangUnitexecutedasearchwarrantonhisresidence).Richardsonwaslocatedasheattemptedtosneakoutofarearwindowofhisgirlfriend’sresidence.Hefacestheremainingfiveyearsofhissentenceplusfeloninpossessioncharges.

• OnAugust11,GangUnitdetectiveswerecontactedbytheHomicideUnitrequestingassistanceintakingthreesuspectsintocustodyfora2010homicide.Withinfourhours,allthreewerelocatedandtakenintocustodywithoutincident.

• OnAugust18,theGangUnitwascontactedby

thePropertyCrimesDivisionforhelpinlocatingJosephGarcia.Garciahasbeencommittingfeloniessince1992(over80charges),andisaSanJosegangmember.Onthisdate,surveillancewassetuponafemalefriendofGarcia’s.Shortlyafterthefemalewascontactedbydetectives,Garciawasseenattempingtosneakoutoftheresidence.Hewastakenintocustodywithoutincident.

• OnAugust21,GangUnitdetectivesrespondedtoaViolentCrimescall-outatanortheastlocation.Afterinitialinvestigation,itwaslearnedthesuspectwasknownonlyas“Prophet”.Detectiveswereabletolearnhistrueidentity,andsetupsurveillanceonhisresidence.Thefollowingmorning,themanwasseenleavingtheresidenceinavehicle.Hewastakenintocustodywithoutincident.

• ViceDetectivesVollmerandSandycompletedtheMurdochcaseandsubmittedittotheSantaFeDistrictAttorney’sOffice.

• WhileViceDetectivesSandyandVollmerwerearrestinganindividualinreferencetoamisdemeanorprostitutionwarrant,theycameintocontactwithanindividualwhohadinformationonanunsolvedhomicidethatoccurredamonthprioronSouthBroadway.TheinformantleadDetectiveSandyandVollmertofouroutstandingsuspects.

• EastsideNarcoticsofficerswroteeightsearchwarrants,andmade19felonyarrests.InAugust,theUnitseized777gramsofmethamphetamine,onegramofcocaine,onepoundofmarijuana,and283gramsofheroin.TheUnitrecoveredfivegunsandsubmittedsixcasestotheDistrictAttorney’sOffice.

• WestsideNarcoticsofficerscompletedninefelonyarrests,wrote17searchwarrantsandmade14controlledbuys.TheUnitseized13.2gramsofmethamphetamine,20.4gramsofcocaine,and150.5gramsofheroin.TheUnitsubmitted27casestotheDistrictAttorney’sofficeforprosecution.
