The Advanced Program in Casino & Hospitality Management (APCHM) is a unique opportunity for senior executives in Macau’s Casino Industry to benefit from the world’s top training in business administration.

In 4 stages, spread over two months, this intensive program will give participants a fresh and global overview of the state of the art of management science and business administration as applied to the industry that today puts Macau on the world map.

The business and administration department of the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT JOSEPH, in Macau, set up with the help of Católica-Lisbon in the late 1990s, has closely monitored and researched the Region’s unprecedented growth, developing an extensive network of alumni and contacts in the business community and local public administration.
Participants will experience the highest level of executive formation available, in the context of aca-demic excellence for which Católica is renowned. During the first two stages, they will be sharing in the fifth edition of the prestigious Kellogg | Católica Advanced Management Program, where they will encounter the latest insights in management and be provided with outstanding networking oppor-tunities, in Lisbon and Chicago. The following stages, in Macau and Lisbon, will concentrate on issues specifically related to Entertainment and Hospitality Management.
The program is designed as a coherent whole and delivers a vast array of management tips and tools, as well as practical insights and experience. Participants are expected to contribute intensely to classroom debate and should be willing to enrich the quality of the discussion by sharing their own experiences, approaches and perspectives.

Program CoordinatorsRicardo Ferreira Reis Associate Dean for International Relations at Católica Lisbon School of Business &
Economics, where he is Professor of Finance and Accounting at the MBA, Undergraduate and Executive Education levels. PhD in Business Science and Applied Economics, Wharton School and Graduate in Economics, University of Oporto. He previously taught both Cost and Financial Accounting at The Wharton School. Professor Reis was a consultant for the then Lisbon Stock Exchange and earlier in his career, the Oporto Derivatives Exchange and he worked as a credit risk analyst for investment banking. He is co-founder of the Alliance of China European Business Schools (ACE).
Nuno FazendaProfessor of Tourism Policy, Planning and International Tourism at the Portuguese
Catholic University. He is the scientific coordinator of the Master’s in Information and Communication Technology in Tourism and of the Tourism undergraduate program at this University. He is co-coordinator of the Tourism Management Program at the Catolica Lisbon School of Business & Economics. He currently serves as the Expert-Coordinator of the Tourism Plan for the North of Portugal. He was visiting Professor at the George Washington University and tourism consultant for the Governments of Andorra and Chengdu (China). Professor Fazenda has been speaker in several international conferences, namely in Europe, Brazil, USA and Mexico. He is an expert at the World Centre of Excellence for Destinations. He holds a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning, Technical University of Lisbon, a MS in Environmental Management Policies, University of Aveiro, and a BA in Tourism from the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism, University of Algarve.

Ben BensaouProfessor of Technology Management
and Asian Business at INSEAD. PhD in Management, MIT Sloan School of Management, MA in Management Science, Hitotsubashi University (Japan), MS in Civil Engineering and DEA in Mechanical Engineering. He won the best doctoral dissertation in the field of information systems. His case on the Circus Industry and the Cirque du Soleil won the 2006 ECCH Best Case Award (in Strategy). His publications include papers in several journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. Professor Bensaou has served as Visiting Professor at Aoyama Gakuin University and has taught in Executive Programs at Keio Business School, Tokyo. He was Visiting Associate Professor at Harvard Business School and has been consulting for Asian, European and US corporations.
Brian UzziRichard L. Thomas Professor of
Leadership and Organizational Change, Kellogg School of Management, Change Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences, McCormick School of Engineering, and Professor of Sociology, Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. Brian Uzzi is Co-Director of the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems (NICO). His research uses social network analysis and complexity theory to model creativity, change and outstanding human achievement in banking, law, science and arts. His work has appeared in the Am. J. of Sociology, Am. Sociological Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Management Science, Nature, PNAS and Science. Professor Uzzi teaches courses on leadership, persuasion, networks and change. He has won 9 teaching awards, including the Executive Master’s Teacher of the Year three times.
Daniel DiermeierIBM Professor of Regulation and
Competitive Practice of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences at the Kellogg School of Management, as well as Professor of Political Science at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. Professor Diermeier’s work focuses on political institutions, political and regulatory
risk, crisis management, and integrated strategy. His work has been published in numerous academic journals and media outlets. He has been an advisor to some of the world’s leading companies and organizations. In 2001 he was named Kellogg Professor of the Year and in 2007 was the recipient of the prestigious Faculty Pioneer, named the “Oscar of Business Schools” by the Financial Times. In December 2004 he was appointed to the Management Board of the FBI. He currently serves as director of the Ford Motor Company Center for Global Citizenship and academic director of the CEO Perspective Program (Kellogg’s most senior executive education program).
Dipak JainThe INSEAD Chaired Professor of
Marketing, where he had served as Dean. PhD in Marketing, University of Texas, MS and BS in Mathematical Statistics, Gauhati University (India). Professor Dipak Jain was Dean of the Kellogg School from 2001-2009. His areas of research include the marketing of high-tech products, market segmentation and competitive market structure analysis, cross-cultural issues in global product diffusion, new product diffusion and forecasting models. He has published more than 60 articles in leading academic journals and has received many awards for his excellence in teaching and research. He has served as editor for the journal Management Science, Marketing Science and the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics. Board member and consultant of several international companies.
Florian ZettelmeyerJ. L. and Helen Kellogg Professor
of Marketing at the Kellogg School of Management. Prior to this, he was an Associate Professor of Marketing and chair of the marketing group at the Haas School of Business, University of California. Professor Zettelmeyer specializes in evaluating the effects of information technology on the product market behavior of firms. He received a Vordiplom in Business Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe (Germany), a M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Warwick (UK) and a Ph.D. in Marketing from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and, before his Ph.D., worked in consulting at McKinsey and Company’s German office.
Francisco VelosoDean of Católica Lisbon School of
Business & Economics. ZON Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, at CATÓLICA-LISBON, and full professor in the department of Engineering and Public Policy, at Carnegie Mellon University. PhD in Technology, Management and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Veloso’s work focuses on how firms and regions develop and leverage scientific and technological capabilities for economic growth. He has won several research awards, including the Alfred P. Sloan Industry Studies Fellowship, and the Stan Hardy Award for the best scientific paper in the area of Operations Management. He has published in journals such as Management Science, the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Operation Management and Research Policy.
Harry Kraemer, Jr.Clinical Professor of Management and
Strategy at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He is an executive partner with Madison Dearborn, a private equity firm based in Chicago and also a former chairman and chief executive officer of Baxter International Inc., a $9 billion global healthcare company. Before joining Baxter, Professor Kraemer worked for Bank of America in corporate banking and for Northwest Industries in planning and business development. He is active in business, education and civic affairs, serves on the board of directors of Science Applications International Corporation and Sirona Dental Systems GmbH, and on the Board of Trustees of Lawrence University, Northwestern University.
João César das NevesPresident of the Scientific Council
of Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics. Professor César das Neves was economic advisor to the Portuguese Prime Minister from 1991 to 1995, advisor to the Portuguese Minister of Finance in 1990, and technician at the Bank of Portugal in 1990/1991 and 1995/1997. His research interests are poverty and development, business cycles,Portuguese economic development, medieval economic thought and ethics. Author of more than 50 books, he is regular commentator at the Portuguese media. Professor César das Neves holds a PhD and BA in Economics from CATÓLICA-LISBON, MA in Economics (Universidade Nova de Lisboa,
Portugal) and MA in Operations Research and System Engineering (Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal).
Keith MurnighanHarold H. Hines Jr. distinguished Professor
of Risk Management, Kellogg School of Management. PhD and MS in Social Psychology and BS in Psychology, Purdue University. Professor Murnighan has received many teaching awards from the Kellogg-Hong Kong Executive MBA program, the University of Illinois and the University of British Columbia, as well as the Distinguished Educator Award from the Academy of Management, a Career Achievement award. He teaches regularly in executive programs in the US, Canada, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. His research has been published in many different journals, in organizational behavior, psychology and economics. Professor Murnighan is the author of several reference textbooks, and has worked with several major corporations.
Leigh ThompsonJ. Jay Gerber Professor of Dispute
Resolution & Organizations at Kellogg School of Management. She is the Director of the Kellogg Team and Group Research Center, and the Kellogg Leading High Impact Teams Executive program. She has published more than 95 research articles and chapters in edited books, and has authored 6 books. Leigh Thompson is a member of the editorial boards of several journals in Organizational Behavior and Psychology. She was named a fellow of the American Psychological Society, and is a member of the Academy of Management, American Psychological Association, Judgment and Decision Making Society and Society for Experimental Social Psychologists.
Mohanbir SawhneyClinical Professor of Technology at Robert
R. McCormick Tribune Foundation and Director of the Center for Research in Technology & Innovation at Kellogg School of Management. PhD in Marketing, University of Pennsylvania, MS in Management, Indian Institute of Management, and BS in Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology. Professor Sawhney is a globally recognized scholar, teacher, consultant and speaker in strategic marketing, innovation and new media. His research has been published in several leading journals. He has also written influential trade articles in publications like the Financial Times. He has won several awards
for his teaching and research, and has been named as one of the top 5 professors at Kellogg in 2008 and 2009. Professor Sawhney advises and speaks to Global 2000 firms and governments worldwide.
Nuno FernandesProfessor of Finance at IMD, where he
directs the Strategic Finance program. PhD in Finance, IESE Business School, and BS in Economics, Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics. Professor Fernandes has published in leading journals worldwide, including the Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Portfolio Management, among others. Prior to joining IMD, he was Director of the Master in Finance (CFA Program Partner) at Catolica Lisbon, and a Visiting Scholar at Columbia Business School (New York). His works earned some distinguished awards, including the AEFIN prize, and a grant from the FDIC (US Regulator for financial institutions). In 2008 he received the Lamfalussy Fellowship, from the European Central Bank. This fellowship is attributed to the top world researchers in finance under 36 years old.
Paulo Nuno LopesProfessor of Organizational Behavior
at Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics, where he is the program director of “Change Management” and “Energizing Teams for Performance”. He holds a PhD in Psychology, and a BA in Economics, Yale University. Professor Lopes’ research on interpersonal and emotional skills has appeared in leading journals. He has published on topics encompassing leadership development and training, emotional intelligence, interpersonal interaction and the role of emotions in decision making. He was professor at University of Surrey (UK) and, in his earlier career, worked in business and journalism, authored a book and codirected an award-winning documentary film.
Sonia MarcianoClinical Associate Professor, Stern School
of Management, where she is the academic director of Stern’s joint Global MBA program with HEC and London School of Economics. PhD in Business Economics and Industrial Organization (University of Chicago). Professor Sonia Marciano has won several teaching awards for distinction in teaching, most recently for best professor in Stern’s Executive
MBA program for 2010. She was among the highest rated professors at Stern, Columbia, Harvard, Kellogg and the University of Chicago. Previously, she was professor at the Columbia Business School, Harvard’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness and at the Kellogg School of Management.

Associate Professor at CATÓLICA-LISBON, where she teaches in the area of strategy and innovation on the undergraduate program, the Masters of Science, the LisbonMBA and the executive programs. Porto Palacio das Cardosas, Eric Viale has a strong international background in hotel management and operations. After 8 years working for ACCOR group both in Operations and at the head office, he joined IHG group and has covered for the past 10 years several strategic positions, as Regional Director of Revenue Management for the 26 InterContinental in Europe and then the 65 IHG properties, Director of Sales and Marketing of one of the flagship of the Company, InterContinental Paris Le Grand Hotel and now as General Manager in Oporto. This robust professional experience is combined with a strong academic background; graduated from Thonon les Bains Hotel School, Eric Viale has continued his post graduation in Hotel Management at the University of Angers before ending at the University of Houston Texas. Multi disciplinary expert Eric Viale is a passionate person to drive hotel operating efficiency, develop the team and drive guest satisfaction.
Isabel AmaralExpert in Protocol, Image and
Communication. Keynote speaker in more than 500 conferences and congresses in Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. She lectures at several universities in Portugal and abroad, and is trainer for the Portuguese Foreign Affairs’ Diplomatic Institute, as well as for the Foreign Affairs Ministry of P. R. China, in Beijing. She authored two books, ‘Image and Success – practical guide of business protocol’ and ‘Image and Internationalization – how to be successful in a global world’, as well as numerous articles about cross cultural communication and protocol for national and international magazines. She received the CNCP (Brazilian Committee of Public Ceremonial) Achievement Award and the AEP (Spanish Association of Protocol) Medal of Merit in Protocol. She is President of APEP - Portuguese Association of Protocol Studies and former Cultural Attaché to the Prime Minister of Portugal. Master Degree in International Relations, Lisbon University.
Isabel Capeloa GilPhD in German Language and Culture
from the Catholic University of Portugal (CUP), where she is Vice-Rector for Research and Internationalization. Professor Capeloa Gil is also Director and Associate Professor at the School of Human Sciences (CUP), IGRS Honorary Fellow, University of London, and Director of the Journal of Communication and Culture. Prior to that, she was visiting professor at several universities in Germany (Saarbrücken, Munch and Hamburg), UK (National University of Ireland), Italy (Univ. Ca Foscari, Venice) and USA (U. Pennsylvania). She has several national and international publications on cultural theory and visual culture, and coordinates the Master and PhD programs in Cultural Studies, Lisbon Consortium. Her main research areas are: German Studies, Cultural Theory, Visual Culture and Gender Studies.
Lincoln MarshallPresident of Marshall Associates, a
hospitality and human resource consulting firm. Dr. Marshall has been involved in the hospitality industry as an educator, consultant, practitioner, and trainer for almost three decades. He has taught Casino Management at the undergraduate and graduate levels at University South Florida, Howard Community
College, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University. He is the co-author of “Introduction to Casino and Gaming Operations” and has worked at three casinos in The Bahamas. Additionally, he has conducted training programs for the National Indian Gaming Association in California and Colorado, and is currently writing the third edition of the text. Dr. Marshall received his PhD from The American University in Washington, and a Bachelor’s degree from Grinnell College in Iowa.
Luís Mesquita de MeloFormerly Executive Vice-President,
General Counsel and Joint Company Secretary for Sands China Ltd. that has a leading role in the development of the Las Vegas Sands Corp Group gaming and hospitality business, opening the Venetian Macau Resort Hotel and the Four Seasons Macau, successfully listing Sands China Ltd in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and obtaining financing for the Group’s business in Macau in excess of USD$ 5 billion. He was a Government Lawyer for Macau Legislative Modernization Commission, legal Advisor to the President of the Macau Legislative Assembly and also to the Minister of Economy of Portugal. During his tenure as a senior Executive with a major gaming operator, Luis developed an unique set of skills and experience in virtually all matters related to Gaming & Hospitality, dealing with all day-to-day gaming related legal issues, compliance and regulatory matters.
Peter F. LaMacchiaPresident of Giosil LLC, a consulting firm
focused on Surveillance, Casino Training and Biometric Technologies, Director of Lost Prevention and Surveillance at a Non-Profit Organization, and Lecturer in Casino Management and Surveillance Studies at Howard Community College. Mr. LaMacchia has over 33 years’ experience in the Casino Industry, as manager, consultant, lecturer, trainer and government relations liaison for both Native American and commercial hospitality properties. Previously, he was Director of Casino Management Studies at New York State University (Morrisville), and facilitated the creation and implementation of many academic programs, including training seminars in all aspects of Surveillance, Security, and Game Protection. He holds a bachelor degree in Business Management and Economics, with focus on Casino Management.

REQUIREMENTS: There are no formal educational requirements but admission is selective and based on professional achievements and organizational responsibility.
