This advert for Jessie J’s album is very dark and is made up of mainly blacks; the image used is based upon her single ‘Do it like a dude’ which was very dark and her styling represented that of a rock video. The black theme shown through her hair, eyes, lips, nails and outfit all fit well together and has been done very effectively so that it stands out among the white background which will draw in people attention straight away and they would notice it as most artist advertisements are placed in places such as tube stations so they may not get 100% attention if someone is simply passing by- therefore, it must be as eye catching as possible. This poster is very basic and consists of just a large image taking up ¾ of the page and the rest taken up by a brief section of text about the album. The colour scheme of white and gold suggests it will be a very successful album due to the conventions of the colour gold as being the best and quite prestige. The text has been created in clever way so that the two most popular and well known songs appear- as people would recognise these songs it would then persuade them to buy the album. In both the bottom corners, there are two labels. This ‘bigs up’ the artist as much as possible as it shows her producers which are very successful companies e.g. Universal Republic. Therefore, for those that are unaware of Jessie J’s music, they would see this labelling and Jessie J

Therefore, for those that are unaware of Jessie J’s music, they would see this labelling and instantly know that she is/will be highly successful. Similarly, Jessie J’s website has been illustrated slightly underneath the song titles with the most important section: ‘jessiejofficial’ made in gold, again, so it stands out and will catch any passers by attention.

You Me At SixThis album cover is very different to the Jessie J style one. You Me At Six are an indie/rock band which obviously is very different to Jessie J’s pop genre, however, both of the advertisements seem to resemble the opposite one as this one doesn’t appear the stereotypical rock genre advert. The colours are very bright and at the top in the centre there is a large piece of art working including roses, leaves, other flowers etc which appear to be emerging out of clouds/a wave. Either side of the flowers are two patterns which look like they could be wings- all of which is very bright in colour. Right in the centre of the advert there is a strip which the effect makes it look like masking tape which says ‘YOU ME AT SIX – Hold Me Down’ This instantly tells the reader the band name and the name of the album so it is easily recognisable. The black text that this is written contrasts with the white strip and as it is the only thing in black on the page, it makes it stand out even more as this is what the producer wants the reader to focus on and is the most important element on the advert. Similarly, just underneath there is text written in white and yellow highlighting when the album is released. It also states that it is available on both CD and download which highlights the proliferation of technology as 15 years ago, this would never be an option. As Jessie J’s genre of music is pop, it is essential that her face is on the poster as pop music is not only just about the music but also the image the artist portrays. However, with an indie/rock genre, the image isn’t always as important and therefore You Me At Six can create an advertisements without their faces covering it and yet it still be very successful.
