A Great Focus on Handcraf ted Goods; Pursuit of QualityIn recent years where Nature Aquarium is popular among global aquarists, we can find in aquarium shops a diverse range of aquarium equipment and supplies, but most of them are cheap and affordable plastic items. Considering that p las t ic product i s a symbol o f mass-product ion and mass-consumption, is it possible for us to feel an attachment for aquarium products made of plastic? ADA hopes that the users will have attachment to and use Nature Aquarium Goods as a hobby tool for a long time. That is why ADA has been placing specific focus on “handcrafted goods” since its inception. Glassware and stainless steel ware elaborately made by skilled craftsmen make us feel the warmth and fine taste unique to handcrafted objects. For example, glassware featuring water-like clarity and gentle curves uses no mold for

fabrication, unlike mass-produced plastic ware. The round shape of the glass and bending angles are created or decided solely by the sense penetrated in the craftsman. When looking closely, we find every piece of handcrafted glassware has slightly different shapes. This difference is not caused by rough handling during production but it is a subtle variance as a result of slightly different forces applied while bending or the difference in glassblowing, which gives a “taste” to the product that cannot be found in plastic ware. Serving as a link between the tool and the user’s mind, handcrafted products wil l eventually become one and only tool for the user through a long-time use. In this consumer society filled with lots of disposable things, we should uphold the value of “selecting good item that can be used for a long time”.

What is Live Substrate?

Organic compounds in the substrate are broken down into inorganic compounds, which will eventually be absorbed by aquatic plants through their roots. “Live substrate” means the substrate that is rich in bacteria having a symbiotic relationship with aquatic plant roots. The above picture shows the bacteria derived from Bacter 100.�

An ideal substrate system with rich nutrients and bacteria is made by the interaction of ①,②and③.

Nutr ient-Rich Live Substrate

Substrate is an important location where aquatic plants spread their roots. One of the things that play an important role in substrate is bacter ia . Bacter ia breaks down the organic compounds accumulated within the substrate into inorganic compounds, which will eventually be absorbed by aquatic plants as nutrients. The nutrient-rich substrate with a presence of active bacteria is truly an idealistic environment.

What is of particular importance in daily fertilization is to supply potassium and trace elements that easily become deficient in aquarium. ADA’s unique “Step Method” helps aquatic plants grow beautiful.�

In Nature Aquarium, the environment within an aquarium is supported by a small ecosystem called microflora, which is fo rmed by the in te rac t i on o f aquat ic p lan t , fi sh and microorganisms. The ideas and know-how about adopting the laws of nature are based on the fundamental concept of Nature Aquarium, “Learning from Nature”. There is another important factor in the perspective of “Learning from Nature”. That is to look at the beauty in nature and incorporate the aesthetic elements into the layout expressions. For example, when we

observe the landscape of seashore dotted with rock reefs, we input the images and information on that landscape, such as naturally positioned rocks and their balance and connections, in our mind. The accumulated images of natural landscapes will later be output as a rock arrangement in an Iwagumi layout. In every aspect, Nature Aquarium seeks inspiration from nature and tries to reproduce the natural landscape in an aquarium. It is truly a miniature nature in which universal beauty of nature is expressed.
