Ad SpecificationsFILE FORMAT AND SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY

• Camera-Ready Files—Submit files by email in high-resolution (300 dpi or greater) Adobe Portable Document Format (.pdf), JPEG (.jpg), or TIFF (.tif) format. NOTE: We DO NOT accept files created or saved in Adobe InDesign®, QuarkXPress®, PageMaker®, Illustrator®, Microsoft® Publisher®, PowerPoint®, Excel®, Word Perfect®, or other word processing and page layout applications. We can accept ad copy created and saved in Microsoft Word©.

• Ad Copy—Submit all typed copy in the body of an email or in a Microsoft Word document. Please submit non-formatted text only that can easily be copied and pasted into our layout program. Please provide instructions with copy regarding layout.

• Photographs and Artwork—Submit artwork by email in high-resolution (300 dpi or greater) Adobe PDF (.pdf), JPEG (.jpg), or TIFF (.tif) format. DO NOT LINK photographs or images; links are lost when the file leaves your computer.

• Color—All ads submitted in color will be converted to grayscale unless the advertiser has contracted for color.

DISPLAY AD DEADLINES

• New Ads and Ad Copy—Ads from new advertisers, ad changes, and ads that we create for you are due the 5th day of the month PRIOR to publication.

• Camera-ready display ads—Camera-ready ads are due the 7th of the month PRIOR to publication. We cannot guarantee space for ads submitted after the deadline.

NOTE: If the 5th day or the 7th day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, ads are due the previous BUSINESS DAY, at the editor’s discretion. Deadlines are published in The Meadoword, but are subject to change.

CAMERA-READY ARTWORK

• File Type—Submit all camera-ready ads and other artwork in digital file format (see FILE FORMAT AND SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY). We prefer Press Quality Adobe Portable Document File (.pdf) files, but also accept high-resolution TIFF (.tif) and JPEG (.jpg) files. (TIFF files typically retain more information than JPEGs and usually result in higher print quality.) We DO NOT accept other file types for camera-ready ads.

NOTE: If necessary, we convert to grayscale, color-correct, resize, and resample ads. We convert all file types to PDF prior to publication.

• Ad Size and File Resolution—Create digital artwork in actual ad size at a minimum 300 dpi; The higher the resolution, the better the quality of output. Ads that are smaller than actual ad size and/or lower resolution cannot be resampled and resized without losing integrity. We cannot guarantee the print quality of low-resolution artwork.

• Ad Color—Create and submit color files in CMYK. Submit all other ads in grayscale, unless you have contracted for color (please convert color artwork to grayscale before creating your PDF). Color files that we convert to grayscale typically provide good results that will reproduce well, but we cannot guarantee the absolute integrity of converted file quality.

The Meadoword is a monthly tabloid newspaper, published by The Meadows Community Association for the residents of The Meadows Community. The paper is a minimum of 32 to a maximum of 40 pages of content and advertising. Distribution includes mailing to 3,500 residences plus The Meadows Shopping Village, The Meadows Country Club, Aviva—A Campus for Senior Life , Tarpon Point, The Meadows Community Center, community businesses, and subscriptions to absentee owners.

• Photos and Clipart—Embed all photos, clipart, and other images to ensure they will print with the file. Linked images are lost once the information leaves your own computer.

• Fonts—Use industry-standard fonts—for example, Times, Arial, Helvetica, Sans Serif, Optima—to ensure font compatibility. Avoid unusual or highly decorative, outlined, or shadowed fonts—these fonts may not always reproduce well and often are more difficult to read. Avoid using fonts smaller than 9 points. Smaller text is difficult to read.

NOTE: If your fonts don’t match our fonts, we cannot correct mistakes in your camera-ready copy. • Proofs—Proof your camera-ready copy before sending it. We are not responsible for mistakes in your material.

AD COPY AND ADS WE PRODUCE We can produce your ad from ad copy or, in some cases, other camera-ready artwork.

• Please submit ad content in Microsoft Word format (.doc) as an attachment to your email or write the ad content in the body of your email message. Be sure to provide some description of how you would like the ad to look.

NOTE: We cannot accept copy created in Word Perfect®, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, QuarkXPress, PageMaker, or other word-processing or page layout programs.

Though we prefer not to, we can accept a file saved in Adobe Photoshop®, provided the file is not flattened and includes all layers.

• Submit photographs, images, and finished artwork as a high-resolution PDF (.pdf), TIFF (.tif), or JPEG (.jpg) file. We can also scan original photographs and other artwork.

PROOFS

• Proofs—We provide a PROOF of ads we build or revise in any way for your APPROVAL and SIGN OFF. Please note that we DO NOT provide proofs of camera-ready ads that you submit unless we change it in some way.

NOTE: Advertiser APPROVAL is required for all ads, excluding camera-ready ads. Ads that are not APPROVED by advertiser or other authorized party may not be published or will be published as is. The Meadoword is not responsible for mistakes published in an ad where advertiser or authorized party has signed off APPROVAL.

ADVERTISING RATES AND PAYMENT

• Color and Grayscale Ads—All ads are published in grayscale unless you have contracted for color. Color is available for all ad sizes, from 2.375x4 to full-page (10x16), that run inside the paper. There is an additional charge, which is not subject to frequency discounts, for running an ad in color. See “Rates at a Glance” below.

•BIZ Directory—Business card ads run only in the BIZ Directory. Business card ads and 2.375x4 ads in this section are priced at flat rates that include color. There is no discount to run a business card or 2.375x4 ad in black and white in the BIZ Directory.

• Payment—Prepayment is due on the 7th of the month prior to publication. If the 7th falls on a weekend or holiday, payment is due the previous business day. New advertisers are required to prepay every ad. We accept cash or checks only—no credit cards. An additional $35.00 to $50.00 (depending on ad size and extent of changes) surcharge applies if The Meadoword creates an ad or makes changes and revisions to an existing ad. This rate may be waived for very simple ads, changes, or revisions or may be greater, depending on the complexity

and size of the ad. The Meadoword may elect to accept camera-ready ads only or refer advertisers to an outside source for ad creation.

CONTRACTED AD This contract is for the ad size specified on this document. You may size your ad up or down and receive the discounted rate if a discount applies; if one is applicable, the contracted discount applies to the new ad size. Advertiser must request and agree to a different size in writing—either by email, which becomes an addendum to the contract, or by advertiser signature on the original contract—and agree to pay the price of the new ad size beginning on the effective insertion date. It is the advertiser’s responsibility to renew the contract once the contract has expired; The Meadoword does not send out reminders.

DISCOUNTS:If the advertiser receives a discount rate for a specified number of ads and does not fulfill the contract agreement for the number of ads to be placed, the advertiser may be responsible for payment equal to the difference of the regular ad rate minus the discount rate that has been applied to all previously placed ads under the contract—for example, a 12-month contract with 7 ads placed: $172.00 (LEVEL 1) - $155 (LEVEL 3) = $17.00 x 7 = $119.00. Nonpayment of two ads constitutes a breach and may result in cancelation of the contract.

DEADLINES AND CANCELATIONS: We do not accept ad cancelations after the 7th of the month. If the 7th falls on a week-end or holiday, ads are due the previous BUSINESS DAY at the discretion of the editor. Deadlines for the subsequent publication are published in The Meadoword. We reserve the right to adjust ad deadlines to ensure compliance with press deadlines.

BUSINESS CARDS: Business card ads appear only in the BIZ Directory, designed specifically for that purpose. PLEASE NOTE: Space is limited and available on first-come first-served basis.

PAYMENTS:Prepayment of ads is required by ad deadline each month before ads will be placed.New Advertisers are required to prepay every ad. We accept cash or checks only— no credit cards. Make checks to MCA and mail payments or deliver in person to:
