SECTION 1: BACKGROUND TO EVERY DAY HARMONY, MUSIC THERAPY

Every Day Harmony, Music Therapy (EDH), established on 26 July 1990 is now a regional provider of clinical music therapy to children, young people and adults.  Through its extensive profile of clinical work and dedicated research programmes, EDH actively promotes the awareness and development of music therapy across Northern Ireland.

We are passionate about, and committed to supporting individuals who find communication and interaction difficult and challenging.  This may be for a particular period in an individual’s life, or as the result of a life-long condition.  Fundamentally we believe that music is a tool for living and that we can promote and maximise growth and change through our music therapists supporting individuals as they experience music therapy.  Our evidence year on year, and individual after individual proves this to be the case.

SECTION 2: ROLE PROFILE

Job Title: Music Therapist

Responsible to: Music Therapy Manager

Overall Purpose and Main Responsibilities:

To provide clinical music therapy service on behalf of Every Day Harmony (EDH) in a variety of facilities across Northern Ireland

To provide individual and group music therapy for clients on behalf of Every Day Harmony (EDH);

Prepare and carry out assessments, therapy programmes and reviews for the above clients.

Key Responsibilities:

- Following an assessment of need, to plan and deliver appropriately tailored music therapy sessions.

- Record therapy sessions, with the consent of the client(s)/ clients representatives;- Form and maintain good working relationships with:

o Professional staff, parents and carers in various locations throughout Northern Ireland, on a multi-disciplinary basis, and

o Other members of the EDH team;- Take responsibility, during therapy sessions, for the client’s physical and psychological

safety. This will include appropriate risk assessment;

- Keep clinical records of treatment sessions in line with HCPC standards of proficiency and prepare written reports on clients as required, for client reviews and as part of the service or programme evaluation process;

- To keep and submit in a timely fashion all statistical records as required by EDH. These will include:

o Monthly timesheet and mileage records,o Monthly statistical returns and activity logs;

- To undertake such other clinical work on behalf of EDH as may be requested by the Chief Executive;

- To contribute to the professional development of EDH and its other staff;

- To provide support and supervision for music therapy students on placement as required / appropriate;

- To avail of the supervisory facilities provided by EDH for its Therapists;

- To advise on purchase and upkeep of instruments and other specialist equipment;

- To attend further training courses and meetings as appropriate and approved by the Board of EDH.

General Responsibilities:

- To conform at all times with:a. the policies and procedures of EDHb. the HCPC Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics and Standards of Proficiency;

- To take responsibility for the planning and maintaining of your CPD requirements; - To comply in all respects with regulations governing Health and Safety at work;

- To undertake any other reasonable duties that may be determined by the Chief Executive of EDH;

- To uphold at all times the integrity of EDH and its responsibilities in respect of confidentiality and data protection.

JOB DESCRIPTION REVISION:
