History
• Started in 1989 with a group of 5 volunteers• At the end of 2009, over 100 people employed in
the three different centres• Work in most islands in Vanuatu• Do some regional work• Workshops with communities• Produce IEC/BCC materials• Produce films• Many more……..
WSB as an Organisation
Some activities in 2009• Media Production –– Launch LP2 & film LP3 – “40Dei” theatre play– International festival
attended by theatre groups from NZ, Australia, Noumea and others
– Radio programs on good governance issues, HIV and nutrition
– Distributed 38,427 of WSB materials world wide (dvd’s, booklets, comics, BCC materials etc)

• Education– Thousands of teachers, students and community
members attended workshops in Vanuatu, Fiji & Solomon Islands
• Youth Services– Three youth centres:
Port Vila, Santo & Pentecost– Services offers activities for out of school youth• Computer, sports, music, literacy, self-defense,
photography and many more

• Good Governance – Work with communities on
issues like rights, including voting rights
– Community awareness of the Family Protection Bill
– Play on Domestic violence– Election play– Work with politicians and community leaders

• Environment– Network of turtle monitors– Waste management
work with school kids– Tagabe river cleanup– Regional work: attend
the Turtle Symposiums (US/Aust/Tahiti) in the last two years

and one in Santo• Providing RH services –
family planning, STI services, VCCT
– Peer education programs in all three centres– Community workshops on RH (STI, HIV)– Mobile clinics– Work with sex workers and msm’s
Benefits of using theatre for community engagement
• Non-threatening method of initiating dialogue• Very effective especially when considering
literacy issues• Good way of mobilising community
