Norman Cousins

In Anatomy of an Illness, he describes how he fought off a crippling disease with the health-restoring weapons of laughter and joy. The benefits of good nutrition, relaxation, a soul at peace, and the harmony of love are aspects of common grace available to all.

A Surgeon's View of Divine Healing

The Spirit can affect the actual cells of our body by bringing to them a powerful orienting force. When the mind is God-centered and the person is "walking in the Spirit," cells receive a new direction, are enhanced, and the whole person functions best.

And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

Page 11: A Person Healed in Jesus’ Name Acts 3:1-10

Look On Us

Our eye must be ever towards the Lord (the eye of our mind), and the eye of the body may be fixed on the ministers of his grace. This man thought this gave him cause to expect something from them, and therefore he gave heed to them.

5. Why did the lame man obey Apostle Peter's command? Acts 3:5

I will direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

• We must come to God in prayer with hearts fixed.

• We must look up to heaven and expect to receive from God.

6. What did Apostle Peter command the lame man to do? Acts 3:6

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Page 14: A Person Healed in Jesus’ Name Acts 3:1-10

• Healing grace is given by the word of Christ.

• Christ spoke cures by himself; the apostles spoke them in his name.

• Peter bids a lame man rise up and walk, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth

7. After Apostle Peter lifted the lame man, what happened to his feet and ankle bones?

Acts 3:7And he took him by

the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

Page 16: A Person Healed in Jesus’ Name Acts 3:1-10

When God by his word commands us to rise, and walk in the way of his commandments, if we mix faith with that word, and lay our souls under the power of it, he will give his Spirit to take us by the hand, and lift us up. If we set ourselves to do what we can, God has promised his grace to enable us to do what we cannot.

Page 18: A Person Healed in Jesus’ Name Acts 3:1-10

NOTES

• The incomes of strength were sudden, and he was no less sudden in showing them. He leaped, as one glad to quit the bed or pad of straw on which he had lain so long lame.

• Let us walk cheerfully with God, and in strength received from him.
