Both of them bring many talents to WCU. Please check out their complete bios on our web page (www.choralunion.org). “How Can I Keep From Singing” is our theme this year and tonight we are excited to collaborate with two youth choirs: the Waukesha Children’s chorus and Muskego High School Concert Choir. FROM THE ARTISTIC D IRECTOR
Good evening and welcome to our season-opening concert, “With Friends.” The Waukesha Choral Union is thrilled to present our
annual collaboration concert, this year featuring the Children’s Choir of Waukesha and the Muskego High School Chorale.
I am humbled and honored to be presenting this concert and season as the new artistic director of the Waukesha
Choral Union. I am very fortunate to have a wonderful group of board members and singing members to work with, and they have made the transition-process quite easy to manage. Honestly, the greatest challenge (so far) has been booking concert venues. We are very grateful to St. William for allowing us to perform here this evening. We will return St. Catherine’s in Oconomowoc and St. Luke’s in Waukesha, for our annual December concerts, and then to Carroll College in April for the “Messiah,” and also our season-ending event in May.
Our season-long theme of “How Can I Keep from Singing” will continue in December with Christmas arrangements and a few seasonal sing-a-long carols, but will also feature some motets and madrigals that will be new to some ears. Handel’s “Messiah” will return us to Shattuck on April 3 and then we will close our season with Folksongs of the Americas (folk music from North, Central and South America) – as well as Gabriel Faure’s masterpiece: Requiem.
Thank you for your continuing support of the arts in your community. We cannot do what we do without you and your generous patronage.
Michael Chapel, Artistic Director
MATTHEW WANNERMatthew Wanner is a member of the choral faculty at Muskego High School where he also teaches Advanced Placement music theory and serves as Chair of the Music Department. He was honored to receive the very first Muskego-Norway School District Compass Award, and choirs under Matthew’s direction have appeared at state conventions of the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association and the Wisconsin Music Educators Association. Studying under Sharon Hansen, he earned his Master of Music in Music Education: Choral Conducting Emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Matthew currently serves as immediate past president of the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association.
DIANE SKROBIS Diane Skrobis is the founder/director of the Children’s Choir of Waukesha, a choral program including five choirs spanning grades 1-12 and “The Singing Tree”, a pre-school music and movement program involving parent and child beginning with newborn babies through age six. Diane has taught all ages from pre-school through adult. She has taught in the Whitnall, Waukesha, and Kettle Moraine School Districts as well as at Pius XI High School in Milwaukee and Carroll University in Waukesha. Mrs. Skrobis’ students have sung in local, state, district, and national honor choirs for the past 27 years. Diane has conducted state honor choirs in Wisconsin, Georgia, Mississippi, and Indiana and lectured on children’s choirs and early childhood at Alverno College, Lawrence University, Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, and Carroll University as well as at state and divisional music conferences. Diane’s choirs have sung locally with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Waukesha Symphony Orchestra, the Waukesha Choral Union, the Bel Canto Chorus, as well as at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Canterbury Cathedral in England and throughout southern Germany, France, and Switzerland. Selected students have recorded for the Lorenz Corporation for their music education CD’s.

Crucified also for usunder Pontius Pilate,he suffered, and was buried. And on the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven andhe sits at the right hand of the Father. He shall come again with gloryto judge the living and the dead;and of his kingdom there will be no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.Who together with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who spoke to us through the Prophets. And I believe in one holy catholicand apostolic Church.
