Chipola’s Ilona Andringa was selected as the Conference Pitcher of the Year. She has a 21-3 record and one save in 26 outings with a 1.12 ERA. Chipola’s first team All-Conference selections include: Pitcher–Ilona Andringa; Infielder—Nalleli Lopez; Outfielders—Gabrielle Santos, Dana Edmundson and Pitcher/DP–Madison Ragan. Second team selections include: Infielders—Brianna Surrento and Ashley Morris. Courtney Davis is Honorable Mention infielder. Pitcher/DP Madison Ragan has .394 batting average with 13 homeruns and 46 RBI. As a pitcher, Ragan has a 6-5 record with one save and a 2.18 ERA. Centerfielder Dana Edmundson is hitting .463 with 28 RBI, 48 runs scored, 27 stolen bases and one homerun. Right-fielder Gabriela Santos has a .424 average with 2 homeruns, 45 RBI, 46 runs scored and 32 stolen bases. Second baseman Nalleli Lopez has a .397 average with 39 RBI, 49 runs scored and 38 stolen bases. First baseman Brianna Surrento has a .381 average with 5 homeruns, 39 RBI, and 16 stolen bases. Chipola theatre major to audition for Hairspray Live Odra Chapman, a 2016 Chipola Theatre major, is heading to New York for an audition for the upcoming live NBC’s “Hairspray Live.” LocaltheatrefanswillrememberChapmaninthedebutroleofTracyintheChipolaTheatredepartment’sfirstmusical in the new Center for the Arts opening season along with Director of Theatre, Charles Sirmon. ..Who played her “stage mom.” Odra was only 16 and still in High School, when chosen by Director of Theatre, Charles Sirmon, who says, “I am thrilled to be a small part of her theatre life and to watch how much she has grown while in his program.” NBCisholdinganopencastingcalltofindtheirnextTracyTurnbladfortheupcomingliveproduction of the Tony Award–winning musical, “Hairspray.” The original Broadway musical won eight Tony Awards in 2003, including best musical. With CharlesSirmonandnewcomerOdraplayingtheMomandDaughterteam…“Hairspray”isbasedontheJohnWaters’1988film.Filmdirector Adam Shankman later adapted the musical into a feature in 2007. CHIPOLA BSU RECOGNIZED AS FOUR-STAR PROGRAM—The Chipola Black Student Union won state recognition as a four-star program at the recent Florida African American Student Association (FAASA) convention. This distinction was previously held by Pensacola State for Region 1, but Chipola College BSU brought it home this school year. Chipola’s BSU, under the leadership of Dr. Willie Spires, submitted a PACE Plan which covered the following topics: Political Activism, Academic Excellence, Cultural Awareness and Economic Empowerment. The students held events throughout the school year that centered on these topics. Chipola’s Hasty Award presented to Daniel Clubb Chipola College music student Daniel Clubb of Malone has been awarded the Winford E. Hasty Memorial Music Award for Outstanding Musicianship. Clubb is a graduating sophomore majoring in piano performance. He is a member of the College Chorus, Rock and Jazz Band, and the President’s Ensemble. Indians win Panhandle Conference

For the second straight year, theChipola Indians are the Champions of the Panhandle Baseball Conference. As of April 21, the Indians are (15-3) with two league games remaining. ChipolaplayshosttoPensacola,Friday,April22,at5p.m.TheIndiansfinishoutconference play at Pensacola, Saturday, April 23. Chipola hosts three non-conference home games, Chattahoochee Valley, Tuesday, April 26, at 3 p.m., and a double-header with Alabama Southern, Monday, May 2, at 4 p.m. The Indians will play in the firstroundof theFCSAAStateTournamentat noon (CST) Monday, May 16, at HenleyFieldinLakeland.Chipolawillface the winner of a matchup between an unnamed wild card team and the Suncoast Runner Up. A win would put the Indians in a 3 p.m. (CST) game, Tuesday, May 17. A loss would move the Indians to the noon (CST) game on May 17. The championship game is set forFriday,May20,at10a.m.(CST). The Conference standings as of April 21, are: Chipola (15-3), Gulf Coast (13-7), Tallahassee (7-11), Northwest (7-11), and Pensacola (4-14). Chipola is ranked second in the FCSAA State BaseballPoll, behind top-rankedSantaFe.GulfCoast is fourth. The Indians won the title with a 9-0 blanking of Tallahassee on April 17. Brady Acker (4-0) was the winning pitcher. Tekwaan White was 2 for 4 with a homerun. Michael Hickman was 2 for 4. Reese Cooley also had a homerun. Chipola split their last two games with Northwest, including an 8-7 loss on April 16, and a 6-5 win on April 15. Ryan Shauger (3-0) got the win on the mound in the April 15 game. Chipola Commencement May 5 in Dothan The Chipola 2016 Commencement Ceremony is set for Thursday, May 5, at 7 p.m., at the Dothan Civic Center. The address is 126 St. Andrews Street, Dothan, AL, 36303. Counted as members of the class are all who will complete degrees or certificates from December of 2015 to May of 2016 or during the Summer 2016 terms. Diplomas will be awarded for Bachelor of Science, Associate in Science, Associate in Arts and Workforce Development Certificates. Graduates may invite an unlimited number of family members and guests to share the event. The ceremony will be broadcast live via internet on YouTube available at this link: www.youtube.com/user/ChipolaCollege Leonard Hamilton, head basketball coach at Florida State University, will deliver the commencement address. He is a former head coach at Oklahoma State University, the University of Miami, and the NBA’s Washington Wizards. In 23 years as a collegiate head coach, his teams have qualified for seven NCAA tournaments and eight NITs, highlighted by appearances in the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet Sixteen in 2000 with Miami and 2011 with Florida State. Scholarships in the Arts Deadline is May 1 Applicationdeadline isMay1 for the2016-17Fineand Performing Arts scholarships. Students should submit the online application prior to May 1 to schedule an art interview or auditions for theatre or music. Scholarships are available to high school graduates with acceptable academic records and aptitude in music, theatre, or art. Scholarships, up to full tuition and fees, are awarded on the basis of talent and academic record. The Chipola Regional Arts Association Scholarship also is available. This year, Jackson County students will be selected. The CRAA Scholarship deadline is April 18.
