Religious Educa on Spotlight

Statement on Holy Ghost Father William Malone Credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minor have been made against Father William Malone, a Holy Ghost Father who served in the Diocese of St. Augustine from January 1982 to March 1992. The abuses occurred in the early 1980’s at Sacred Heart Parish in Jacksonville. A thorough review of the allegations was conducted by an independent investigator. Based on his report, the Dioc-esan Review Board found the allegations to be credible. The report has been shared with local law enforcement. Bishop Felipe Estévez has met with the victim to express his deep sorrow for the pain the victim has suffered, and he apolo-gized on behalf of the church. Fr. Malone served as an associate pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Jacksonville from 1982 to 1991, and asso-ciate pastor at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Palm Coast from 1991-1992. He moved to the Holy Ghost Fa-thers community in Long Island, N.Y. in March 1992. In Sept. 1993 he re-turned to Ireland where he remained until his death in 2003.. ————————— If you or someone you know has been harmed by someone representing the Catholic Church, call the police. You can report abuse to the Florida Dept. of Children and Families at 1-800-962-2873, or con-tact the diocesan Victim Assistant Coordinator, Ti-na Nugent, at (904) 208-6979 or email [email protected]. ATENCIÓN La Diócesis de San Agus n le da seria consideración a toda acusación de mala conducta sexual y dispone de todos dichos casos de manera pronta, com-pleta y confidencial. We are asking our new Superintendent for proven training and accountability.—Work to build a grocery store on the corner of Moncrief and Myrtle. —We continue to monitor the Sheriff's and State Attorney’s progress in releas-ing their data on a transparency website. —The goal is to identify a statewide prob-lem within the criminal justice system, to address by June of this year. I often hear that we continue to work on the same issues year after year. Big problems cannot be solved in a year or two and we continue to change our elected officials. Please come out and support our issues. We need to show our officials that we still CARE about JUSTICE.
