Age Range: 12 18Time: 20 to 25 minutes1IntroductionCan you actually waste a school year?

Any activity or amount oftime can be wasted if notdone for Gods Glory

If you can waste two hours staring at the internet, you can definitely waste a whole school year !

One day we will be called to give an account of every word we speak and how we used the things God gave us for His glory. I know I will have to answer for many lost opportunities! Our youth need to be challenged to consider how they can live for God NOW and take full advantage of the place where God has put them.2IntroductionCan you actually waste a school year?

"If you have not chosen the Kingdom of God first, it will in the end make no difference what you have chosen instead. - William Law

But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, - 1 Peter 3:15The Kingdom of God is the only thing that will last. Everything else will fade away. This should be the main investment in our lives!35 WAYS NOT TO WASTE YOUR SCHOOL YEAR!Title slide.41. Be Joyful1. Be JOYFUL!Anything you do without joy is a waste.

God has given us so many reasons to rejoice, His people should have more fun than anyone else!61. Be JOYFUL!SATISFACTION in the Lord is key!

Osatisfyus in themorningwith Your lovingkindness, That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13

If you arent satisfied with the Lord, you wont be satisfied with anything. The world around us wants us to believe they are satisfied, but it is not a real satisfaction. It can be taken away as soon as something bad happens in their lives. The people of God have a steadfast satisfaction in the Lord that cannot be taken away by any circumstance. They always know His comforting presence, even in challenging or dark times.72. Love & Serve Others2. Love & Serve OthersYou will waste your school year if you are only focused on yourself!

The path to true joy is service. This was demonstrated powerfully by Christ (Philippians 2:8-13)!92. Love & Serve OthersGod showed us that loving and serving others is the path to true greatness. But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. Luke 22:26How can you love and servethe neighbors God has givenyou at your school?

How did Jesus demonstrate this principle to us? Do you really believe you can be MOST happy by becoming a servant?103. Dont Gossip3. Dont Gossip Do you think gossip is a problem at your school?

Hey! Quit pushing my buttons!Gossip is a major discouragement to joy. It divides and destroys fellowship, and its so easy to fall into!123. Dont Gossip You will waste your school year if you devour other peoples reputations!

They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only dothem but give approval to those who practice them. Romans 1:29-32

God takes gossip and slander SERIOUSLY. This sin is associated with hatred and murder. It is contrary to love, and deserving of deathas the Scriptures say. Whats really convicting is the fact that not only do we do these things, but we give our approval to those who are experts in them! What if we just stopped giving our approval? What if it became uncool to tear someone down and say hurtful things about them? 133. Dont Gossip Use your tongue to build people up!

Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad. Proverbs 12:25

What can you do to counteractgossip and slander in your school?

Have you seen others weighed down by anxiety? Sometimes a friendly word from you is what God wants to use to turn their day around.144. Glorify God By Hard Work4. Glorify God By Hard WorkWhat kind of work does God want you to do in school?

You will waste your school year if you do not use the talents God gave you to their fullest potential!164. Glorify God By Hard WorkGod wants us to do all things with excellence, because as Christians we are giving Him glory by our work.Commit yourworkto theLORD, and your plans will be established. Proverbs 16:3Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24

Even though your teachers give you the assignments, Christ says to do them for His sake. You represent Him!175. Share Christ5. Share ChristCould you use this year in any better way than sharing Christ with others?

You will never have the same opportunity to reach others for Christ as you do right now in school. Your fellow students NEED Christ! God has promised to be with you as you seek to tell others about the liberating Gospel of Jesus Christ.195. Share ChristThis is the great adventure, guys.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18

Its an adventure because it is directed by the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, the God of the Universe, and He does all things perfectly. He gave you the words of eternal life contained in the Scriptures. Yes, many will claim it is foolishness, but God reminds us of His power in many ways. God has an amazing purpose for you in school if you have the Holy Spirit. Let Him use you as an instrument in His hands. What are some simple ways you could testify to Gods grace at school? What is stopping you? What are some of Gods promises for you in this task?20ConclusionConclusion1. Be JOYFUL!2. Love & Serve Others3. Dont Gossip4. Glorify God by Hard Work5. God calls us to so much more than the world can offer. School can be a complete drag on your spirit, with all the bad stuff kids are into these days. However, Gods promise for you is that you can shine as a light in the midst of the darkness. You will shine with His light, and it is a glorious thing to behold.23Conclusion"If you have not chosen the Kingdom of God first, it will in the end make no difference what you have chosen instead. - William Law

Closing thought.
