1. Encourage your employees to use social mediaNo one wants to feel like their employer is watching over their shoulder, waiting to catch them sharing something on social media that shouldn’t be shared. Create a culture within your company that is supportive of employee engagement on social media.

2. Communicate frequentlyYour employees want to hear from you because communication is one of the top factors that can create brand ambassadors. When you have information you want to share, make sure you are sharing it on multiple channels: email, meetings, your intranet, etc.

3. Make it easyGive your employees content to share; it’s as simple as that. When you share news with your employees, include some pre-formulated status updates and suggest that they use them when posting on social media. This will save time for them and give people the extra nudge to share.

4. Train your employeesNot everyone feels comfortable with social media, and that’s ok. You can help your employees feel more at ease if you provide training. Even if you don’t have a formal training program, hold lunch ‘n’ learns, work it into your new hire orientation, and send tips to your employees.

4. Customize your game planNot every employee is the same, and different types of people require different tactics in order to turn them into brand ambassadors. Identify what types of employees you have and play up their strengths: some might write great blog posts, some might share updates regularly, and some might make great SlideShare presentations!
