Episcopal Ordination of Monsignor Dermot Farrell In seven weeks me, March 11th, the Episcopal Ordi-naon of Msgr Dermot Farrell as Bishop of Ossory will take place at 3.00 p.m. in St Mary’s Cathedral. Msgr Dermot had his first meeng with the priests of the diocese last Wednesday in St Kieran’s College. He eagerly looks forward to working with the people, religious and priests of the diocese, thanked them for their warm welcome and good wishes so far. He requests that we pray for him and assures us of his prayers. Keep this prayer convenient so you can pray it daily.
Celebrang the recent announcement at St Mary’s Cathedral of a new bishop for Ossory are: Bishop-elect, Dermot Farrell, Bishop-emeritus Laurence Forristal and Bishop-emeritus Seamus Freeman SAC
Prayer For Our New Bishop-Elect Eternal God, Shepherd and Guide, may Dermot who will serve our Church be a shepherd aer your own heart, who will walk in your ways and with loving care, watch over your people. May he be a leader of vision and a teacher of your truth. So may your name be glorified and your Church built up through Christ our Lord. Amen.
‘ F IVE STEPS TO EASTER ’ With the Cribs and Christmas trees only barely consigned to storage for another year, we rapidly become conscious that there’s now only four weeks to go until Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. Our focus now, therefore, becomes firmly set on the Five Steps To Easter program -this year’s replacement for the Solemn Novena. The Five Steps program will run on the five Wednesdays between Ash Wednesday and Holy Week. It will consist of the celebration of evening mass at 7.30 p.m. on each of these Wednesdays with a guest speaker addressing the congregation on a special theme befitting appropriate preparation for the celebration of our Salvation - the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ. There will also be a special reference point at the 10.30 morning masses, such as: children’s mass; reconciliation mass and confessions; mass with the sacrament of anointing of the sick. The evening presentations by the following well-known and generous speakers:
Fr Peter McVerry -S.J. Priest. Renowned advocate baling poverty and homelessness in Dublin & naonally.
Senator Joan Free-man - founder of Pieta House: Helping people in suicidal distress and self-harm leanings.
Sister Stanislaus Kennedy. No intro-ducon needed in Kilkenny: Mindful & Mindfulness - Medi-taons for Every Day.
Elber Twomey - Forgiveness. Loss of family: husband, son and unborn daughter when a suicidal driv-er hit their car, 2012.
Bishop Dermot Farrell - ten days aer his Epis-copal Ordinaon - His journey of Faith and its many challenges as we journey towards Easter.

… in the words of Oscar Wilde
“Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.” “I am so clever that somemes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.” “I think God, in creang man, somewhat overesmated his ability.” “I am not young enough to know everything.” “You will always be fond of me. I represent to you all the sins you never had the courage to commit.” “Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imaginaon.” “A good friend will always stab you in the front.”

THE EVANGELIST PARISH NEWSLETTER
The current Newsleer format was first launched on the 5th March last year. We were very excited to be able to offer all mass-goers a fine, well produced colour edion on a week-ly basis since then. However, the uptake was nothing like we en-visaged. There was a significant drop in copies taken from the churches each weekend. Twice during the year we had to advise the company who produce them for us (LPI) to cut our order by 100 each me. There was really very lile posive reacon to its format, whilst there was much more nega-ve reacon: ’oh, we preferred the old one - it was easier to read’; ’it’s too big’; or ‘there’s too much in it’; etc. A lot of work goes into sourcing adversing
and pung it together each week. We sincerely thank all the adversers who support our parish publicaon, and those who work hard to make it a reality each week.
Because the publishers (LPI) needed to know in advance (adversing etc. for the next 12 months) if we were going to renew our contract for the current format of the Newsleer, the Parish Pastoral Council discussed the maer on a few occasions. The upshot of these discussions was sadly that, because of lack of interest, we would re-vert to the old A4 format from the beginning of March this year.
We would welcome any alternave suggesons regarding the format and publicaon of parish news into the future.
‘Do The Ordinary Things Extraordinarily Well’
Christ entrusts to each one of us — wheth-er we are a fisherman or woman — the work of discipleship: to extend, in whatev-er our circumstances, the love of God to all; to proclaim, in our own homes and communies, the compassion, the for-
giveness, the jusce of the Gospel. As God is present to us in the person of Jesus, we are called to be present to one another in our love and care. To be the “fishers” that Christ calls us to become is to “cast the net” of God’s love that we have experi-enced upon the waters of our me and place, to reach out and grasp the hand of those who struggle and stumble, to “love” away the hurt and pain and fear of those we love.
