During the period 1-30 April 1953 continued emphasis was placed on

maintaining high administrative standards. Routine administrative in-

spections were conducted by this and hj~her headquarters with an overall

rating of satisfactory. Casualty reporting procedures and processing of

personal effects were closely supervised and no problems were encountered.

The period 11-30 April was spent in reserve. The reserve area was located

at a considerable distance from the division administrative center and

involved a two hour drive one way. Telephone connnunications to the regi-

mental personnel section were poor and certain minor administrative prob-'

SUPPLY (LOGISTICS)

1. During the period covered by this report the regiment completed

tw:> moves. On 8 April 1953 the regiment t·Jas relieved from the defence

of Line Jamestown in its assigned sector and moved into a reserve train-

ing phase at CT 251927. This move was accomplished with a minimum of

difficulty v-r.ith the exception of transportation. The shortage of truck

transportation hindered an otherwise will-planned and well-regulated move.

2. Upon being relieved from the defense of Line Jamestown, a

most unusual problem vms encountered in that the regiment v-as required

to remove all ammunition from positions in that the relieving units of

the Commonv-realth Division had different ammun1tion requirements.

3. Again on 26 April 1953 quartering elements of the regiment

commenced to move to its present location at CT 42~044. Move ~s

completed 27 April 1953. Mission of the regiment was to occupy, organize,

and simulate the defense of Ljne Kansas with stress being laid on the

development, reconditionjng, and improvement of existing defenses. No

serious difficulty was encountered in this move as less stringent time

requirements were made on the regiment, and additional required truck

support v.>as made available. Sufficient shovels, picks and sledges Here

made available to the regiment for renovation and rehabilitation of Line

Kansas.

4. Our Quartermaster supply support is satisfactory. The time

element in the renair of boots has continued to draw some criticism from .... ., ~ '

unit commanders. Continuing emphasis must be placed by all supply agencies·.·.·

o~ clearing boots for repair to the ~ext agency in the shortest possible· . t,

time in order for the current system to be effective. Turn-in of items ' ..... of winter clothing commenced on 13 April 1953 and plans were completed

for a phased tu~n-in of the remainder of winter clothing items. 1;' •

5. Our Ordnance support in the replacement of vehicular parts remains

critical. To date the regiment has 130 valid, unfilled requisitions for '

vehicle parts. It has been impossible to build up our required stock

l.~Vel control in Ord 7 vehicle parts; therefore, a vehicle must be dead-

lined in order to receive certain types of critical parts. During the

-past ~nth our Ordnance support platoon joined the regiment for the first

time and has given us excellent support.

EVALUATIOH A)D RECOHHEf\DA.TIO!G

The few days th1.t this Regiment spent defending LINE JA!.fESTOWN produced no

incidents of note. The reli.cf by the British Commonwenlth Division proceeded '

smoothly from the tactical side but was rather difficult administratively.

This was due to a shortage of transportation to make the move. This condition

' was aggravated by the fact th..q_t all of our amm'mition required movement off the

t.

position. Th':lt the Commonwealth D1.vision could not use our amm,J.nition demon-

strated very graphically the desirabilj:ty of standardization of weapons.

The field exercise for the occupation of LINE KA~EA.S ani the subsequent ·

move to IX Corps were excellen·t training for our units. They brought out the

requirement for SOPs in all units for movements of ~1 types. There appears to be

a ten:iency to let administrative considers.tions outwe:tgh the tacttcnl. Training

moves such as this Regiment made during AprU were very effective in counteracti.ng

\_ this type of thinld.ng •
