Good afternoon and welcome to our visitors from Taunton Town. We extend our hospitality to the officials, players, staff and supporters. We hope you enjoy your time with us and have a safe journey home.
Well, we finally got the win we needed to put some points on the board and to give the team a great morale boost. It also gave our supporters something to cheer and talk about and as ever we thank them for their great support. It was a brilliant turn out on a Tuesday evening with a total of 361 through the gate.
This afternoon’s game against Taunton Town will be a different game as they are in the playoff zone some 9 places above us.

FROM THE DUG OUT
Good afternoon and a warm
from Taunton Town.
We are looking forward to today’sgame as I believe with the heavy load of league games and the position we found ourselves in this month has been hard on the lads. What better than a fantastic Cup competition, with our win against Dorchester Town on Tuesday evening moving up a few places in the league, it can start to give us a positive mental approach moving forward.

FROM THE CHANGING ROOM
Hi all and welcome to today’s game against Taunton Town in the FA Trophy, I wish all the players, staff and fans a enjoyable stay with us and a safe journey home.
It won’t be easy against a very strong Taunton Town side who we’ve had
This is a quick turn around between home games for us with the Tuesday derby win against Dorchester Town and today’s game, but this one, the lads are ready for.
Today’s game is a welcome break from the league and therefore it offers the chance of a Cup run which comes with much needed prize money to every club at this level of football.
The league is so tight and with another home game against a team down at the bottom end to come next Saturday against Yate Town, this is a chance to get a bit of daylight between us and the bottom 3.
We got a much needed win on Tuesday in the league, 3 points which pushed us up the table to 14th and Dorch back into the relegation spots.

I hope you enjoy this afternoons game and get behind the lads like you all did on Tuesday evening, hopefully we will see another home win.
We already owe them one for coming to the J & B's Stadium Cuthbury earlier in the season (August) and beating us in the league 3 nil.

OUR VISITORS HISTORY
Having joined and played in the Somerset Senior League, 1953 became a notable year. The club gained admission into the Western League and moved into Wordsworth Drive, their present home, on a lease agreement with the Taunton Borough Council.
During the middle 1970s Ron Gingell became manager and the club were runners up for four consecutive seasons. The 70s was also highlighted by the club purchasing the ground from Taunton Borough Council and the installation of floodlights. During 1977 the club gained election to the Southern League Division One (South) and two years later the reorganisation of the leagues caused by the establishing of the Alliance Premier League saw Taunton Town transfer to the Midland Division to take advantage of the M5 motorway.
The present Taunton Town Football Club was formed in December 1947 by a few local businessmen and played their first friendly fixture during Easter 1948. They then played on a number of grounds such as Mountfields, French Weir, Victoria Park, Huish Old Boys and finished up at Denman’s Park, Haines Hill.
The club became a limited company in 1981. The new board soon decided that Southern League football was too expensive and the club reverted to the Western League in 1983. Seven years later the championship pennant returned to Wordsworth Drive under the management of Keith Bowker.
The club struggled financially and depended heavily on a very active Supporters Club during the late 50s and early 60s. 1968/69 saw an upsurge in the club’s fortunes with manager Doug Hillard securing the Western League championship for the first time.
In 1994 the team then managed by Terry Rowles battled through to the F A Vase final at Wembley
Stadium but Diss Town won the trophy in extra time.
Russell Musker was appointed manager in November 1994 and another championship followed in 1996. After two seasons as runners up three consecutive titles followed together with the club’s first ever Cup success – a 2 – 1 victory over Berkhamsted Town in the F A Carlsberg Vase final at Aston Villa’s newly modernised Villa Park stadium. This ended a sequence of 18 defeats in cup finals since the 1950s. Another Cup victory was achieved in 2003, lifting the Somerset Premier Cup for the first time with a 2-1 win over Yeovil Town in a final played at Clevedon Town’s Hand Stadium.
Former player Paul West, who lifted the F A Vase in 2001, took over and rebuilt the team with a local emphasis. West left the club in May 2012 and was replaced by Leigh Robinson. In the previous season the club finished with a run of nine consecutive victories culminating with the club’s third Somerset Premier Cup triumph, beating Frome Town 1-0 in the final played at Paulton Rovers FC. This was especially notable as no goals were conceded in five games. The club also won the Southern League Groundsman of the Year award in 2013-2014, a remarkable achievement considering the floods which affected the area causing the ground to be under water for much of January and February.
Peter Beadle took over as Manager in 2005 amid great optimism but left after only 14 games to join Newport County and former Hallen manager Gary Domone stepped into the hot seat – after a disappointing start results began to improve and the club won its second Somerset Premier Cup by beating a strong Mangotsfield United side at Weston super Mare. Domone resigned as Manager in December 2007 and was replaced by Ian Jones, who himself resigned in April 2009.
In July 2010 Tom Harris stepped down as Chairman after 29 years and was replaced by Kevin Sturmey who also took on the roles of Chief Executive and Head Groundsman. Since then the club have made major improvements on and off the pitch, continuing
OUR VISITORS HISTORY
2014-2015 was one of the most successful seasons in recent history with fourth place in the League, and the retention of the Somerset Premier Cup, beating Yeovil Town in the final. We also retained the Southern League Groundsman of the Year award and were in face voted the second best club at Step 3 & 4. Our programme
to maintain the ambitions to play at a higher level.
Off the field the club suffered a major blow in July 2011 when the clubhouse was badly damaged by a fire which was caused by an electrical fault – what remained of the clubhouse was extensively smoke damaged and the whole building had to be demolished. A mobile bar was brought in on matchdays but the following year a modular building was opened despite the original builder going into administration.
also won a prestigious award being voted the best in the Southern League and 18th nationally.
Manager Leigh Robinson and his assistant Michael Meaker left in September but the club maintained its successful run under head of football Rob Dray, assisted by coach Matt Villis. The club finished runners up in the Southern League Premier Division South, but lost out to Poole Town in the end of season play offs as well as reaching the Fourth qualifying Round of the FA Cup before losing 1-0 to Billericay Town in a replay.
The club has added some more quality players and are hopeful of more success this season.
The club reached the play offs for three seasons in a row but finally last season it all clicked and the West Division title was clinched by a massive 19 points with only one League defeat all season.

Wimborne Town 2-1 Dorchester Town
With both sides at the wrong end of the table with 12 points from 13 games, there was more than local bragging rights at stake on a chilly evening at the J&Bs stadium. After Dorchester had taken a first half lead through Tom Blair, it was the home Magpies who scored twice in 6 second half minutes courtesy of Sam Bayston and Tony Lee to take the points.
Manager Danny Holmes rotated his squad, giving starts to Stef Penny, Sam Davidson, Carl Pettefer, Curtis Young and Sam Bayston. However, there was disappointment for recent signing Rico Wilson who was ruled out of a home debut against his former club through injury.
Att: 361
Attacking the hospital end in the first half, Lee had a shot blocked on 7 minutes and Franklyn Clarke fired over following a corner as Wimborne started brightly. Having lost 4 on the trot, the last thing the home side wanted was to lose an early goal. But that's just what happened after 10 minutes when Blair blocked Sam Davidson's clearance on the attackers' left wing, raced into the area, and fired through Cameron Plain.

RECENT MATCH REPORTS
Shortly after Murphy produced a good save from Lee when the striker was set-up by Burbidge, Wimborne equalised on 72 minutes. A patient passage of 9 passes made space for Burbidge on the right by-line, his cross fell to Bayston who fired into the corner of the net.
As the mist descended, there was still time for the visitors to chase an equaliser. Blair headed over from a free-kick; Plain dived bravely at the feet of substitute
On the half-hour mark, coming in from the right, Penny lost control of the ball and, over-stretching, made a clumsy tackle. Referee Jenkins was immediately surrounded by a posse of men in yellow trying to influence the man in black. To the relief of the hushed home support he produced a card matching the visitors' kit.
Wimborne's young keeper, Cameron Plain, made a good punch under pressure, then saved a shot from a corner before making a superb diving save from Strugnell from 15 yards. Tony Lee, having his best game for the club, was winning headers and causing problems for Dorchester's defence. He also found time to help out his own defence with head and feet, before trying an audacious overhead from Young's cross. The home side came on strongly at the end of the first period - Bayston and Sam Poole heading first high then wide from Burbidge centres.
keeper make an easy save; Dorchester's Callum Rose made a crucial defensive header with Lee breathing down his neck; and Burbidge's drilled cross was smothered by Murphy before, at the other end, Tom Bath spurned a great chance to double his team's advantage by heading wide from Dan Strugnell's right-wing cross.
As they grew in confidence, and started to string passes together, the home side applied pressure at the start of the second period. Davidson headed over from a Burbidge free-kick on the right, and Lee was thwarted by excellent defending by Neil Martin.
Six minutes later, another Cuthbury roar signalled a second goal. This time on the left, Burbidge, the king of assists, crossed for Lee to soar above his marker and head beyond the Dorchester stopper.

THE PATRONS DRAW 2019/20
Compared to the recent v is i ts to Farnborough and Chesham, this was a vastly improved performance, and Holmes' men fully deserved this much-needed victory, which lifts them to 14th in
Diaz; and Martin's cross-cum-shot bounced off the top of the bar. But having taken the lead, there was no way that Davidson and the majestic Poole were going to give that up. And after an additional four minutes, referee Jenkins brought this hard fought, tense local derby to a conclusion.
