In the summer of 2013, Harding University conducted its first Kerusso Experience. Kerusso is a week long preacher training camp for ninth to twelfth grade boys. The first camp was a smashing success! Thirty students from twenty congregations in four states and Belize spent the week on Harding’s campus learning Bible study methods and sermon preparation and delivery from faculty, students, and friends. More importantly, perhaps, they learned that they, too, could serve the LORD in a lifetime of ministry.

Realizing that not every student can make a trip to Searcy for the camp, in the summer of 2014, Harding partnered with Camp-Ne-O-Tez to offer the same experience to students in the Mid-West. July 20-26, 2014, Kerusso welcomed sixteen students from congregations in and around St. Louis to Kerusso: Ne-O-Tez. Not only were students taught to preach from the Book of Jonah

by faculty members and students from Harding University, but they were also privileged to hear and learn from some of the best preachers and ministers in the area – Steve Awtrey, Bob Clark, Thomas Jackson, Joe Taylor, Jimmy Teigen, and Ed Tritschler, just to name a few. Now, the week was not all about the classroom. Students enjoyed daily activities such as hiking and floating, playing pick-up basketball, and even took in some St. Louis Cardinals baseball.

The camp was so well received that we are proud to announce the return of Kerusso: Ne-O-Tez, July 18-25, 2015. This year’s focus is Paul’s letter to the Philippians. Classes for both beginning and intermediate preachers will be offered, so even if your student participated last year, he will receive new information and insights this year. New and exciting activities and speakers have been planned for this year, and, of course, the Cardinals are in town!

I like to say that the purpose of Kerusso is calling. The whole point of the camp is to help students hear God’s calling to ministry. Some he will call to full-time preaching, oth-ers to youth ministry or counseling, and still others to ministry in and through other vocations. The church needs preachers for sure, but it also needs ministry-minded businessmen, computer programmers, and educators.

Austin Gray, a student from the Lafayette Church of Christ, has already determined to give his life to ministry because of Kerusso: Ne-O-Tez. And Austin is just one of a group of students from Lafayette who have continued to use the skills gained last summer to bless churches in the St. Louis area through the year. The best commercial for Kerusso is a student who has attended, so take it from Ted Crigler from McKnight Crossings: “If you love God, and you love the woods, and you want to express your love for God, then the Kerusso is an awesome opportunity to experience it all. Whether you are going into full-time preaching or not, this experience still can help with things in life.”For more information concerning Kerusso: Ne-O-Tez visit www.harding.edu/bible/kerusso-experience.

THANKS, SCOUTS!When many of us think about the Camp facility in DeSoto and all that goes into making it a wonderful place for Christian camping, our first thoughts may be the large projects typically funded by the Annual Ne-O-Tez Dinner. Or possibly the work and upkeep done by our caretaker, Nate Reiser, and by Marlin Henley and several others who volunteer their time and skills. For sure, we appreciate all they do!

But let’s not forget the numerous Boy Scouts who have culminated their Eagle Scout work by completing countless projects at Ne-O-Tez. From campfires to bridges to swings to sheds to activity areas, Camp has been blessed for several years by projects that have been planned, funded, managed and built by area scouts. In fact, before the 2017 camping season, we will benefit from two more scout projects: two popular group game set-ups, built to be portable for use at the ball field, on the basketball court or inside the steel building. One project will be contributed by the first Girl Scout troop to build at Ne-O-Tez, led by Kalista Roades.

At a time when many in our country are self-focused and there are concerns about the future, let’s thank our area scout troops for their service and their contributions to Ne-O-Tez. After all, Camp exists to train our youth to know and to follow Christ.

EVERYTHING NE-O-TEZ IN 20172017 Annual Camp Rally Dinner

Friday, April 7th

Guest Speaker: Blake EarnhartLocation: Machinists Hall, Bridgeton

We are pleased to announce the featured speaker at our upcoming Annua Rally Dinner April 7th will be Blake Earnhart, youth minister at the Central church of Christ in Ada, Oklahoma. Blake grew up in the St. Louis area, attending Ne-O-Tez virtually all his life. He is a third-

generation Camp supporter.

Blake graduated from Abilene Christian University and married his college sweetheart, Karla, shortly after their graduation in 2007. He and Karla have two young girls, Emerson and Addison.

For the past several summers, Blake has brought high school students from the Central church in Oklahoma to High-Teen week at Ne-O-Tez. While the students have local options, Ne-O-Tez has become a “camp of choice” for Blake and his OK contingency. Karla has also worked several teenage weeks at Camp since being introduced to Ne-O-Tez while in college, even bringing their girls this past summer.

Camp Ne-O-Tez truly is a family affair for the Earnharts.

The Camp Rally dinner begins with a fellowship time and silent auction. Tickets will be available from board members and on camp website beginning in February. Childcare for children 2 yeas old - 5th grade is provided at no charge.
