SMUGGLERSWho’s the Best at Getting the Goods?

A notorious gang of smugglers is recruiting new members. The first candidates step forward, a motley bunch indeed. Which one has the skills to become a worthy member of the gang? To determine this, the boss himself stages a smuggling contest. First the would-be smugglers must try to get through a hole in a fence while carrying the biggest sack of contraband possible. Then those who make it through the hole have a chance to inspect the other smugglers’ sacks that are smaller than their own or that shamefully got stuck in the hole in the fence. A role of the die determines which size hole in the fence the sack needs to fit through. The smuggling sacks are formed from a rubbery polymer putty that the players roll into balls with the contraband

pieces hidden inside. The balls are then rolled down a track toward the fence. The player’s goal is to form the largest ball that will still fit through the fence. Players who succeed in getting the largest ball through the hole in the fence can then guess the contents of the smaller balls or of balls that were too large to fit through the fence. If they guess correctly, they get to keep the contraband. The player who collects the most contraband items wins. This funny family game answers the question: Who is the sneakiest and most skillful smuggler?

IMHOTEPBuilder of Egypt

Imhotep. The legendary architect of the Egyptian monuments. His awe-inspiring structures and brutal tactics earned him divine status among ancient Egyptians. Can you match his ruthless determination to build the most revered monuments? To do this, you will need to transport stone blocks on ships from your quarry to different construction sites. But you alone do not choose where the ships go. Your opponents have monumental plans of their own and want to prevent your success. A fierce competition for the precious stone resources plays out. Only with the right strategy and a little luck can you succeed. In Imhotep, the players take on the roles of ancient Egyptian architects. Over six rounds, they try to transport their stone blocks to end up in the most valuable positions at five construction sites: pyramid,

obelisk, chamber tomb, temple, and market. But a player can only choose one of three actions in a turn: excavate a new stone block from the quarry, load a block onto a ship, or move a ship to a construction site. From there, the massive stone blocks must be unloaded in order from bow to stern and placed on the sites in preset sequences. Depending on where the blocks end up, players earn different point values either immediately or at the end of the game. In each turn, you must weigh your options for getting your own stones into place and thwarting your opponents’ placement plans. You must get your blocks to the right places, in the right order, at the right time to be the greatest architect.

LEGENDS OF ANDOR: JOURNEY TO THE NORTHExpansion

After many years of living in peace, the heroes of Andor receive a new cry for help — this time from distant land of Hadria. You immediately step aboard an old sailing vessel to embark on a perilous journey to the north. After you have properly equipped your ship, you discover strange islands and must work together to protect their coasts from terrible sea monsters. Soon thereafter you find yourselves in the midst of thunderous

storms. You must persevere against the unbridled forces of the sea. And a great secret will be uncovered during your journey. This expansion for the highly awarded and beautifully illustrated Legends of Andor offers four legends with new challenges, new heroes, and new creatures. LEGENDS OF ANDOR: THE STAR SHIELDExpansion

The Legend Continues... Following their victory over the dragon, the heroes are on a search for the Star Shield. Its great power could turn out to be a blessing or a curse, should it get into the wrong hands. And as if that weren’t enough, a pack of hungry wolves has been sighted in Andor. If the

heroes can only manage to tame their leader, though, the wolves can become loyal allies in the fight against a reawakened evil.

LEGENDS OF ANDOR: NEW HEROESExpansion

Expansion for 5 and 6 Players. Four new heroes and heroines have risen to protect Andor: Kheela, protector of the river lands, commander of the potent water spirit. Fenn, the tracker, possessor of special tools and weapons. Mighty Bragor, the powerful Taurean fighter. And Arbon the guardian, with the ability to diminish the strength of

enemy creatures. Now, the Legends from the basic game and from the “Star Shield” expansion can be experienced by up to six players. But even for just two, three, or four, these new heroes can offer some exciting variety.

TUMULT ROYALEThe Game of Greed, Power, and Revolution

Tensions are high all across the lands. The royals erect statue after statue while their loyal subjects starve. But this time, the peasants have had enough. There are whispers of a revolution. Calls for an uprising ring out and the kingdom is thrown into a tumult. Down with the king! Take that, you greedy blue bloods! In Tumult Royale, you play the royals. Round after round, you collect taxes from your subjects in order to build statues of

yourself across the country, thereby securing your rank. If you leave enough commodities for the people after taxation, all is well and you can continue to build monuments to your own vanity. But if you take too much, the greediest of you will be punished. Who will build the most statues and win the game? Remember: The greedy shall rule, but the greediest is a fool!

STEAM TIMEPowered by Steam and Driven by Glory,An Odyssey Across the Arc of Civilization

The year is 1899. For millennia, people have shared myths of unexplained occurrences at age-old monuments around the world, such as Stonehenge and the Pyramids of Egypt. Recently, reports of bizarre phenomena at these sites have garnered the full attention of the powers that be. In these places, spacetime is distorted. Time flows in unexpected ways. In addition, unusual crystals with supernatural properties have been discovered there. These discoveries have sparked the invention of fantastic machines that can travel through time. Now, the rapidly industrializing superpowers of the world are in a race to amass and exploit these valuable resources.

At the center of these endeavors, the newly established Temporal Institute for Monument Exploration (T.I.M.E. for short) is sending out steam-powered airships to travel through time and space. As captain of one of these airships, you will set out to explore the temporal rifts around the monuments. Dive into the turbulent stream of time on a quest for long-lost knowledge, vanished cultures, and hidden treasures. Search for crystal deposits and use your resources — including steam, crystals, gold, and time — wisely to stay ahead of your competitors, ultimately to gain T.I.M.E.’s esteem and eternal glory. Get ready to embark on an extraordinary time travel adventure with Steam Time!

UBONGOSprint to Solve the Puzzle

Ubongo is a fast-paced, addictive, and easy-to-learn geometric puzzle game. Players race against the timer and against each other to solve a puzzle of interlocking shapes. The faster you solve the puzzle, the more gems you get. The player with the most valuable gem treasure after nine rounds of solving puzzles wins! Here’s how it works: Each player receives a set of 12 tiles. The tiles are polyominos — geometric shapes formed of equal-size squares joined edge to edge in different arrangements. At the start of each round, each player gets a new puzzle board. A roll of the die determines which tiles you must use to perfectly fill in the empty spaces on the puzzle board. Any players who complete the puzzle within the time limit yell out “Ubongo!” and grab a gem at random from the bag. The fastest player also gets a blue gem and the second fastest an amber gem. Each gem color is worth a different amount of points. After nine rounds, the player with the most valuable gem collection wins. Download the free companion app, which helps you learn how to play the game, and includes a game timer, a solo game timer, and solution keys.

DOHDLES!What is that?! Sculpting, Guessing, and Laughing

Dohdles are riddles made of dough! Exercise your imagination in this artistic and hilarious sculpting and guessing game for families and parties of three to six players. Create a Dohdle by sculpting the approximate shape of an object or living thing — or of a part of an object or living thing — with the modeling clay. You don’t have to be a skilled sculptor or artist: You should actually form your Dohdle in such a way that your opponents cannot immediately recognize what it is supposed to represent. Even if you’re all thumbs when it comes to sculpting, you’ll be able to make a Dohdle that has the shape of a hotdog, a ball, a mailbox… anything! You receive points during the game if you guess the exact word that your opponent’s Dohdle represents. You also receive points if the solution to your Dohdle is neither too easy nor too difficult for your opponents to identify — ideally solved after four rounds of guessing.

During your turn, you can alternately ask two yes-or-no questions or ask for a letter of the word to be revealed to help identify another player’s Dohdle. At any time, if you think you can identify a Dohdle, throw your guessing cube in the sorting funnel: The player whose cube comes out first can guess first. Points from correct guesses move you forward around the game board, and the player who makes it around the board first wins the game! The special clay will not dry out or harden and can be used again and again.

DIMENSIONThe Spherical, Stackable, Fast-Paced Puzzle Game!

Dimension is a fast-paced, innovative puzzle game that takes place in three dimensions with 60 colorful spheres. All of the players play at the same time. Everybody tries to position the spheres on their trays to earn as many points as possible before the timer runs out. The task cards indicate how the spheres must be placed to earn points: for example, exactly two orange spheres must be on the tray, black and blue must touch each other, and blue must not touch white. Complete these tasks while racing against the timer. You get a point for each sphere you use and a bonus token for using all five colors, but you lose two points for each task card you don’t follow correctly. Prove to your opponents that you are the master of multi-dimensional thinking!

LOST CITIESThe Board Game

The research teams are outfitted and ready to embark on their adventures to find five forgotten cities. Who will lead the way to fantastic discoveries? Each player guides a team of explorers on up to five expeditions. To advance along an expedition path, a card in the path’s color must be played for each step forward. The card must be of equal or greater value to the player’s card previously played on that path. After playing or discarding a card, the player draws a new card. Skilled team leaders assess when to play, hold, or discard their

cards to move their own teams forward while at the same time preventing their opponent teams from getting ahead. Points are awarded based on how far the explorers make it along their paths. Each step earns more points than the one before it, and the first three steps earn negative points. Along the way, players can increase points by finding artifacts, victory points, and shortcuts forward. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins!

THE ROSE KING A Thorny Feud For Two Players

England, 15th Century — On one side, the House of York, with its heraldic badge featuring a single, snow white rose. And on the other side, the House of Lancaster, its own heraldic rose depicted in blood red. The War of the Roses, a dynastic struggle for control of the English crown, has erupted between the two houses. In this strategic game, one player commands the House of York and the other, the House of Lancaster. The players use their power cards to bring territories under their control, aiming to keep their territories as contiguous as possible. They also deploy their heroic knights to take over enemy territories and cause surprising upsets. Who will be crowned England’s new king?

TALLY HO! Who’s Hunting Whom?

The hunter becomes the hunted in this humorous two-player game! One player picks up the axe and rifle to assume the roles of lumberjacks and hunters, while the other player slips into the furs of foxes and bears. Both parties hunt ducks and pheasants — and each other — to earn points! At first, the forest is peaceful under a canopy of unrevealed tiles. But as the tiles are flipped, pandemonium breaks out among the pines. The lumberjack hacks away at the trees to give the hunter a clear shot at the fox. But the bear is right behind him, ready to stand up to these human bullies. The chances are equally balanced between the animals and the humans. In the beginning, luck runs the show. But as the hunting continues, the players must become increasingly strategic to prevail. Happy Hunting!

GYROSCOPES & FLYWHEELSGyroscopic force is a fascinating and magical phenomenon, with amazing scientific principles behind it. With the small, fast-spinning gyroscope in this kit, you can build models and perform experiments that appear to defy the force of gravity by balancing and standing upright when common sense would tell you they should fall over. Build a model of a break-dancer that uses the gyroscope to spin and balance on its head. Construct a gyroscopic vehicle that keeps its balance like a Segway but with just one wheel. Assemble a cool robot that can zoom along a thin rail on two inline wheels without falling down. The lower part of this robot is a flywheel engine — a fast-rotating, weighted wheel that stores rotational energy and drives a gearwheel that moves the model forward. Even more models can be built using the flywheel function, including a motorbike, a space car, and a trike. A simple pull of a ripcord starts the gyroscope and flywheel spinning — no batteries required! The 32-page, full-color manual has illustrated step-by-step instructions.

CATAPULTS & CROSSBOWSIt’s time to get medieval on physics! Build ten sleek and updated models of catapults and crossbows. These classic siege weapons from the middle ages also happen to be great tools for teaching physics, including lessons in force, energy, motion, and projectiles. A crossbow is a medieval type of weapon based on a bow and arrow, in which the bow is mounted horizontally on a stock. Build and experiment with five different types of crossbows. The projectile, called the bolt, has a safe foam tip and a special cross-section that prevents other projectiles from being launched. When the bolt is loaded into the crossbow, a rubber band is pulled backward and energy is stored in the stretched rubber band. A trigger releases the bolt and the rubber band launches it through the air toward its target. A catapult is another medieval ballistic device that uses mechanical rubber bands and counterweights to fling projectiles into the air. The 32-page, full-color manual has illustrated step-by-step instructions.

HAPPY ATOMS Digital and Physical Chemistry Set

Chemistry is the science of materials, their properties, and how they react with each other. All materials are made of atoms. Why do some atoms combine with each other while other atoms do not? Because atoms just want to be happy! Of course, atoms don’t really have feelings. But they do have observable behaviors. And atoms tend to be more stable, or “happy,” when they have certain numbers of electrons whizzing around their cores. Where do they find extra electrons if they need more to be happy? From other atoms that have too many electrons, of course! When atoms share or exchange electrons to be happy, they stick together. Happy atoms form molecules! With this revolutionary approach to teaching chemistry, you can make your own happy atoms! This physical and digital kit lets you discover the world of molecules in an intuitive, hands-on way. Using a set of 52 atom models representing 16 different elements, you can assemble your own molecular models. The atoms stick together easily with magnets: metal tips on the ends of rubbery arms, which represent free electrons, snap onto magnetic bonding sites on the atom spheres, which represent empty spots for electrons in the atom’s outermost electron shell. But how do you know what the molecule you’ve snapped together is? You use the included app for iPad® and iPhone® to snap its picture, and the app uses state-of-the-art image recognition technology to identify the molecule. The app recognizes tens of thousands of molecules. It presents detailed information about 120 of the most important molecules, such as a molecule’s usage, properties, hazards, formula, and structure. The app takes you on guided quests to discover new molecules and learn about them. You can track your progress with the app, collecting sets of molecules that you have built and explored. Many people think of chemistry as complicated and hard to grasp. New technology now enables us to take this innovative approach to teaching chemistry, making it more tangible and instinctive than ever before. Requires iPad or iPhone.

NANOTECHNOLOGYCutting-Edge Nanomaterials

Some of the biggest scientific breakthroughs in recent years involve things that are actually very, very small. The science of nanotechnology deals with the smallest structures, in the range of one to 100 nanometers in size. That’s as small as just a few atoms in a row (one atom corresponds to about one nanometer)! With this kit, the intangible, nanoscopic world becomes accessible with hands-on experiments

using both scaled-up models and real nanomaterials. Nanoparticles can be made of different materials and exist in a wide variety of forms —thin layers, tubes, balls, and tree-like structures. These particles can be coated onto surfaces, they can enhance other materials such as paint, they can be used as a delivery method for pharmaceuticals in the body, and much more. Specific applications include, for example, self-cleaning house paints and water-repellent clothes, anti-fog coatings on glasses, UV protection components in sunscreen, environmentally friendly anti-fouling coatings for ships (to prevent algae

growth, thereby reducing fuel consumption), antibacterial coatings for medical devices, and materials to more effectively filter dirty water. Start out by conducting experiments concerning size, scale, and orders of magnitude in the International System of Units, to get a feel for just how small a nanometer really is. Explore how charcoal is like a nanoscale sponge with filtering experiments. Conduct experiments with the hydrophilic (water-loving) and hydrophobic (water-hating) properties of different surfaces, which illustrate nanoscale properties. Stir up some mixtures and suspensions, and then examine exotic mixtures to learn

about the nanoscopic particles suspended in them. Shine a laser through a colloidal gold — a suspension of nanoscale particles of gold! Learn about the electromagnetic spectrum, laser light, electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy to begin to grasp how we can make nanomaterials visible. Experiment with a special material that mimics the nanostructures on a gecko’s footpads that allow it to climb straight up a vertical pane of glass with ease! A full-color, 72-page illustrated manual guides your explorations of the nanoworld, and a game board helps you track your progress through the experiments.

GECKOBOT Wall-Climbing Robot

This astonishing wall-climbing robot has a motorized air suction system that enables it to walk vertically up and down perfectly smooth surfaces, like glass, plastic, whiteboards, and glossy laminates. The battery powered motor drives an innovative gear system that produces a rotating motion making the legs move back and forth and up and down, mimicking a real gecko — so two of the feet are touching the wall while the other two feet are lifted off of the wall, in an alternating motion. At the same time, the gear system drives an air pump that sucks air inward at the two feet touching the wall while blowing air outward at the other two feet. In this way, two of the feet are always holding the model to the wall, while the other two feet are pushing off and stepping forward. When the geckobot’s tongue hits an object in front of it, it triggers the motor to go in reverse, thus causing the model to walk back down the wall. While the model walks, its head and tail move from side to side, resulting in an amusing and lifelike lizard model. You can build six other models and conduct experiments with suction to learn about air pressure and the mechanical physics of this unique device. Build models of an industrial robotic arm with vacuum suction cup grippers, a car with suction cup wheels, an octopus with suction cup arms, a crawling insect, a window cleaning robot, and a vacuum holder device. GYROBOTThe Science of Gyroscopes

Gyroscopes are used in countless devices. From smartphones, tablets, and video game controllers to airplanes and space telescopes, gyroscopes perform tasks ranging from the everyday to the extraordinary. With this kit, children can explore the astonishing powers of the gyroscope by building seven models, including a robot that can balance on two linear wheels and move along a tightrope! Kids will learn about the physical science principles that keep the robot balanced, making it appear to defy gravity. By constructing seven different models with the motorized gyroscope unit, young engineers can experiment with and learn about the science of gyroscopic devices and the indispensable role they play in our lives. The models include the gyroscopic robot, a balancing personal vehicle, a gyro

horizon (or artificial horizon), a gyrocompass, a balancing game, a tightrope walker, and a flight simulator. At the core of these models is a unique motor-driven gyroscope. A gyroscope is a rapidly spinning wheel mounted in such as way that its axle can move in any direction. Because of the laws of physics, the gyroscope reacts to external forces differently than a non-spinning wheel would: it resists forces in certain directions. This behavior allows it to be used for all sorts of applications related to balance, rotation, and orientation. Fun, hands-on experiments with the motorized gyroscope unit make these physical laws tangible and easier to comprehend. The full-color, 24-page instruction manual provides step-by-step instructions.

ROBOTICS: SMART MACHINESProgrammable Robots

Robotics is a vast, thrilling, and sometimes overwhelming interdisciplinary field involving physics, engineering, and computer science. This kit gives kids a simple, fun, and customizable introduction to robotics that lets them build eight motorized machines controlled by programs and an ultrasound sensor. Kids code the programs using an easy, visual programming app on a tablet or

smartphone, which connects to the robot models via a wireless Bluetooth connection. The ultrasonic sensor works on the same principle as sonar. It sends out sound waves, which bounce off objects. The sensor interprets the echoes returning to it, and from this detects objects in the path of the sensor. Using the app interface, you can program the robots you build to behave based on the feedback coming from the ultrasound sensor. Build a bipedal robot that walks forward on two legs and pivots to avoid obstacles in its path. An awesome beetle robot moves backwards or forwards in response to an obstacle, and opens and closes its pincers. Construct a funny crocodile model that wags

its tail if no object is in sight, but then opens its giant jaws when an object approaches. Using an additional smartphone and tablet, you can even hack together a cute little spy bot that roams around and streams video back to the tablet screen. A cool tiltrotor aircraft model simulates vertical takeoff and landing by rotating its propeller blades 90 degrees. You can also assemble other fun robots including a robo dog and robotosaurus. After you have learned how the technology works, you can build and program your own robots using the kit’s 230 building pieces. A full-color, 64-page step-by-step illustrated manual helps kids assemble all of

the models and teaches them about robotics in the real world. The visual programming language allows you to command the robots’ motors to move at different times, different power levels, in different directions, and in response to the data from the sensor. You can also add simple sounds to your programs. Requires a tablet or smartphone running iOS or Android®. iOS devices must support Bluetooth 4.0 and must be running iOS 8.0 or later (such as iPad® 3 or later, iPad mini™, iPhone® 4S or later, and iPod touch® 5 or later). Android devices must support Bluetooth 4.0 and must be running Android 4.4 or later.

HUNDREDS OF BUILDING PIECES

ROBOTIC COMPONENTSUltrasound SensorYour robot’s eyes! The ultrasonic sensor helps your robots gauge distances and determine where objects are. Using the core controller, the ultrasonic sensor is able to detect an object and measure its proximity. Technically it works like a sonar system: a sound is sent out and received again when it bounces off obstacles.

Light SensorDetect light intensity! The light sensor assists in helping your robot to “see.” It enables your robot to distinguish between light and dark, as well as determine the light intensity in a room or the light intensity of different colors. This makes it possible to program your robot to follow a black line.

Touch SensorYour robot’s fingers! The touch sensor measures information arising from physical contact with objects, enabling your robotic creation to “feel” things in front of it! The sensor can detect single or multiple button presses, and reports back to the core controller, which decides what to do according to the program. The kit includes two touch sensors.

Servo MotorTake precise steps! The servo motor has a built-in rotation sensor that measures speed and distance and reports back to the core controller. This allows your robot to take precise steps with complete motor control! The kit includes two servo motors.

Regular MotorDrive your robots! The motor brings motion to your robots: Connect the motor to gears, wheels, and other pieces to move your robots in many ways. The kit includes two regular motors.

Core ControllerYour robot’s brain! The core controller features a Bluetooth connection to tablets and smartphones and a USB connection to a PC. You can download programs from your devices to the core controller.

SpeakerYour robot’s voice! The loudspeaker integrated into the core controller is your robot’s mouth or voice. You can design what sounds you want your robot to make and when.

Sound SensorYour robot’s ears! There is a microphone on the core controller that can detect sounds. You can program your robot to react accordingly. So if you clap your hands once, it can mean one thing, and it you clap twice, it can mean a different thing. The sound sensor is able to measure noise levels around 3–6 kHz, where the human ear is most sensitive.

ECO-BATTERY VEHICLESThe Future of Electric Cars

It’s becoming increasingly inevitable that electric vehicles (EV’s for short) will be the cars of the future. More specifically, battery electric vehicles (or BEV’s) — which are powered entirely by rechargeable chemical cells — are starting to become practical. Many major auto manufacturers have BEV’s in development, and a few already have BEV’s on the road today. The challenge in making BEV’s a viable transportation solution is the battery. Batteries must be easy to recharge, able to hold enough charge to drive long distances, and more efficient than gasoline engines. Scientists and engineers around the world are tackling this battery challenge, and major progress is being made. In this kit, you can build and experiment

with a new type of environmentally friendly “fuel cell” to learn about electrochemical cells and BEV’s. The battery is a metal-air electrochemical cell, a type of battery that is widely used in small scale devices. It is ideal for demonstrating battery technology because it does not use any harmful chemicals: it uses magnesium plates, salt water, and the oxygen in the air to generate electricity. Magnesium is considered an eco-friendly renewable fuel because it can be harvested cleanly from ocean water. Build 20 different models and power them with this special battery. Experiment with different concentrations of salt to see how long your battery can run. Learn about electrochemistry and battery technology. One metal plate lasts as long as a AA battery (six plates included). Full-color, 64-page manual. 91 building pieces.

PHYSICS SOLAR WORKSHOP (V2.0)Solar Power Technology in Action

In one way or another, almost every form of energy we use originates as energy from the sun. Solar energy directly powers photovoltaic cells and thermal collectors. Indirectly, we get power from plants grown by the sun,

oceans heated by the sun, and Earth’s weather systems sustained by the sun. Even the energy stored in fossil fuels originated as energy from the sun, captured by plants and animals millions of years ago. Physics Solar Workshop explores the topic of solar energy, focusing on photovoltaic cells. By building five awesome models and conducting ten experiments with them, you will learn how solar cells transform light into electrical energy, and how motors and mechanical devices can optimize the work done by this energy. Start with a simple rover

model that converts sunlight into a rotating motion and demonstrates the basics of solar technology. Continue your experiments by constructing increasingly complex models: a solar helicopter, robot, and bug. Finally, build a cool praying mantis model that moves like an insect and is powered by a solar cell. The models can also be powered by a battery, allowing operation in all lighting conditions. The 142 parts are compatible with other Thames & Kosmos physics and engineering kits. The 48-page book offers illustrated step-by-step instructions for the projects.

ELECTRICITY: MASTER LAB The Physics of Electricity

We encounter electricity everywhere in our lives — at home, in school, even our bodies have electric charges in them. Alternating current (AC), or electric current that cyclically changes its direction, plays a particularly important role in our world. Countless

appliances and devices, including televisions, electric heaters, desk lamps, and smartphone transformers are operated with AC. This science experiment kit offers a thorough exploration of alternating current in addition to the more commonly addressed direct current (DC), the unidirectional current from standard batteries. With this kit, you can safely experiment with the physical science theories and applications of electricity. Conduct 119 experiments to investigate electrical engineering from AC to DC. Start by exploring the basics of electric current

by building simple circuits with batteries, switches, and lights. Build series and parallel circuits as well as more complex circuits such as a traffic signal and alarm system. Experiment to observe the physical effects of electric current such as heat and magnetism. Discover electrochemistry by building a lemon battery. Play around with permanent magnets and electromagnets to learn about magnetism and its applications, such as relays and motors. Operate an electromagnetic coil, capacitor, and transformer in an AC circuit

and examine their behaviors at different frequencies. A special AC generator creates a harmless AC current with a variable frequency, from a few hertz (or cycles per second) to about 7 kilohertz. This device safely enables the exploration of electrical phenomena such as resonance and high-pass, low-pass, and band-pass behaviors. Use the voltage and current meter to take measurements from your circuits. With this kit, the complex world of electricity becomes more tangible.

Page 99: 2016 Thames & Kosmos Product Catalog

The products in this catalog conform to all applicable mandatory US safety standards. More specifically, the products conform to all applicable US safety standards dictated by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Commercial Practices, Part 16, including the additional provisions established by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and the standards dictated by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F963 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety, when applicable. Because many of the products are toys that originate in Germany, they are also often tested according to the European Safety Standard for Toys, EN-71. Results of safety tests conducted by independent laboratories will be provided upon request. When thinking about the safety of science kits in particular, it is important to remember that while most science kits are children’s products, science kits are not toys for play. None of our kits are intended for children under the age of three years, and all of our science kits require the presence and supervision of a responsible

parent or adult. Our instruction manuals always provide important safety advice to children, parents, and adults, as well as first aid advice when applicable. Some common safety precautions apply to all of our science kits:1. A responsible parent or adult must always supervise the experimentation.2. All users must read the manuals thoroughly before experimentation and follow all instructions and safety advice prescribed in the manuals.3. The manual and packaging must always be kept ready for reference.4. The kits must be kept away from children who are younger than the prescribed age.5. Caution must be used in handling any objects with sharp points or edges, or that may break to yield sharp points or edges.6. Users should not put any of the parts in their mouths.7. Users should always wash their hands after experimenting.
