Northern Beef Week Tour hosted by Tamworth North West Murray Grey BPG

The Tamworth North West NSW Breed Promotion Group invites Murray Grey breeders and

enthusiasts from interstate and NSW to join a 2 day bus tour provided by the group. Together you

will visit four studs over the weekend at low cost with all meals and one night’s accommodation

provided. We will be leaving from and returning to Muswellbrook Showground, where cars can be

left for the tour duration as the gates will be locked overnight.

SATURDAY 2 JULY 2016

9:00am sharp: Bus leaves from Muswellbrook Showground, please arrive 15 minutes prior with

time to put your bags on the bus etc

9:30am: Arrive Paul and Lyn Richards Rouchelle Murray Greys, herd tour with morning tea

11:30am: Leave Rouchelle

12:30pm: Lunch at Mare & Foal Park Scone then leave for Lachlan and Kate James’ Wallawong

Murray Grey Stud, Curlewis.

3:00pm – 5:00pm: Wallawong herd tour

5:30pm: Drinks and dinner at Wallawong, Curlewis

Overnight in motel, Gunnedah

SUNDAY 3 JULY 2016

7:45am: Leave accommodation

8:40am: Kym Carlton’s Carlinga Murray Grey stud, Boggabri, herd tour with morning tea available

10:40am: Leave for Mundalola

12:00pm: Arrive Andrew and Sharon Gunn’s Mundalola Murray Grey Stud for herd tour and lunch

2:00pm: Leave Mundalola for travel to Muswellbrook.

4:00pm: Arrive Muswellbrook for travel home. Tour ends.

same as it covers accommodation and food. Our BPG is sponsoring the bus.

Murray Grey Studs visited in Northern Beef Week Tour

Carlinga Murray Greys - Kym Carlton, Boggabri

Carlinga is a stud and commercial cattle operation set on 1800 acres, running 130 Murray Grey breeding cows and including about 50 registered breeders. The herd was established on The Glen, Springwell, Mt View and Delowen bloodlines. Sires in use include Carlinga Guided Missile, Ondiong F78, Carlinga Hunts-man, Glenliam Farm Jugernaut and the outstanding young pro-spect Carlinga Linebacker (pictured right). Females on display will include autumn cows with calves at foot, PTIC spring calving cows and heifers, and a group of excellent weaner bulls and heif-ers. There will be a select range of females available for sale on the day as well as a limited number of young bulls. Visitors and clients always welcome.

Wallawong Murray Greys – Lachlan & Kate James, Gunnedah

At Wallawong we are passionate about breeding high quality beef cattle with a commercial carcase focus. Founded in 1990 the breed-ing herd is currently 120 registered females. Our female herd is run on four properties in the Gunnedah/Boggabri area of NSW. On tour you can inspect our Sale team of 25 BreedPlan recorded Murray Grey bulls and registered females prior to our 2016 on-property sale event on 14 July. View new stud sires Bottlesford Kudos, Tullibardine Jeopardy and other Wallawong sires with semen available. See the mature female stud herd with young calves by these and other sires. We are undertaking a major ET program later in the year so take this opportunity to inspect high quality Wallawong and Bundaleer embryo donors. We look forward to welcoming visitors and clients with a simi-lar interest in quality beef cattle genetics to our properties.

Rouchelle Murray Greys – Paul and Lyn Richards, Muswellbrook

The Stud was established in 1994 with females being purchased from Glencairn and Baerami Studs. Further females were purchased from The Glen and Ondiong. AI is used exclusively, with superior bulls be-ing used. These include Monterey Sundowner, Monterey Detective, Lindsay Empire and Walteela Rough Rider. As part of promoting our cattle we exhibit at local and Royal shows. Progeny of Monterey Sun-downer have been very successful with Rouchelle Filagree F21 Re-serve Senior Champion and Rouchelle Diamond K105 (pictured right) Junior Champion females at Brisbane Royal. We also participate in Hoof and Hook competitions gaining numerous Champions including Lightweight Champion Sydney Royal. Commercial heifers and steers are feed on a grain ration for 120 days and consigned to JBS Scone to a Natural Grain MSA program. These cattle have averaged a MSA index of 60.675 with a top of 64.86. Our breeding program is based on fertility, milking ability, temperament and muscling.

Mundalola Murray Greys – Andrew and Sharon Gunn, Attunga

Much has happened on Mundalola since our last bus tour, we have relocated to some more flat country at Forest Lodge which we are cur-rently pasture improving with cultivation, fertiliser and sowing paddocks down to oats and subtropicals. Our Murray Grey cows have settled into their new home and we are very happy with this season’s drop of calves. The bloodlines from our foundation cows go back to Willalooka Pharaoh, Kelso Cracker and our own bull Mundalola Dynasty D51. Our recent purchases have been Woodbourn Gladiator G20, and last year Ayr Park Jedd J38 we also have Lindsay Fusion which we own with Kate and Lachlan James. Our heifer purchases are from Walla-wong and Ayr Park. We have also started a program where we work with Manilla Central School students who show our cattle through the shows in the North West in February and March giving us a lot of en-joyment and we debuted at Sydney Royal with success (Mundalola Alexis K12 pictured left) We look forward to you coming back from the first tour or for the first time seeing our cattle and our Stud.

Arrival and Departure from tour On Saturday morning there will be one bus pick up point in town from Muswellbrook Showground leaving at 9am sharp. The showground is open during the day but is locked up at night and opened again on Sunday. Tour participants are able to leave cars parked at the showground for the duration at their own risk.
