SCHEDULEParent Seminar

Thursday, 3 October

3:30-5:00 p.m.

Mini-STEM: Parents will experience the Academy’s

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and

Mathematics) outreach program first hand. This seminar

will illustrate how the Academy introduces middle and

high school age students to exciting technical academic

disciplines with hands on experiences.

Invitees are parents/grandparents of current midshipmen andmidshipmen who have graduated.

Welcome Reception

Thursday, 3 October

5:30-7:00 p.m.

Mahan Hall

Enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and open bar to the sound

of USNA Jazz Quartet. Guided tours of The War of

1812 Bicentennial Exhibit will be available.

Experiential Leadership Panel

Friday, 4 October

11:00-11:45 a.m.

Midshipmen will discuss the wide variety of experiential

leadership opportunities in which they have participated,

from mentoring inner city youth on site in Newark, NJ,

to demanding back country team leadership at the

National Outdoor Leadership School.

Seminars

Friday, 4 October

1:30-3:10 p.m.

Seminar A—Project Based Learning: a guided tour by the

Academic Dean’s staff of the extensive facilities and

programs offered to midshipmen in the physical

sciences, engineering, and cyber operations

Seminar B—Ethics at the Naval Academy: senior faculty

and midshipmen will discuss how ethical leadership is

taught and practiced at the Academy

– and –

Athletic Excellence: an update from the Athletic Director

on initiatives that will further enhance the opportunities

for midshipmen scholar-athletes in varsity, club, and

intramural athleticsIf you select Seminar A, you will attend one presentation (Project Based Learning) during the 1:30 to 3:10 p.m. timeframe. If you select Seminar B, you will have the opportunity to attend two 45-minute presentations (Ethics and Athletic Excellence) during the same timeframe.
