We face very bad days !

E d i t o r i a l :

During this time of

the year we usually

face very bad days:

a horrible heat

which makes us

sweating day and

night and shortage

of drinking water

and electricity.

Things will be

going on like this

until the rainy

season comes. Then

rain will bring some

relief to the heat

and we’ll be able to

harvest rainy water

abundantly. There

is still a month or so

before the rainy

season starts…

we’ll try to survive

till then!

In this Newsletter we will tell about: 1. DRINKING WATER 2. NEW ROAD CONSTRUCTION 3. MANGO FRUIT 4. SSC EXAMS RESULTS 5. NEW KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM

Comments, advice and suggestions about our Newsletter are welcome and can be sent to this e-mail address:

1. DRINKING WATER: During this time of the year drinking water is a great

problem not only for us but for everybody. We usually harvest rain water in big tanks during the rainy season but at this time of the year the tanks are empty.

Now we haven’t any drinking water. So at least twice a week our girls have to go

and collect drinking water from a nearby pond kept clean for this purpose. Then we keep this water in special filters and that water gets somehow purified and

drinkable.

2. NEW ROAD CONSTRUCTION: In front of the Mission the construction of

a new road is going on. Work started about three months ago. The previous road was narrow: the new one is going to be quite wide and both people and vehicles

will be able to move very comfortably. Our electric line along this road has also

been fixed. During the rainy season we have in mind to plant as many trees as possible on

both sides of the new road.

3. MANGO FRUIT: Mango is a tasteful fruit. There are some mango trees in

the Mission compound. These mango trees were planted by Fr. Luigi Paggi ten years ago. Recently most of the mangoes were plucked down before thieves

could steal them.

4. SSC EXAM RESULTS: SSC (Secondary School Certificate) governmental

examination is held in our country after completing 10 years at school. This year examination had started on the 2nd of February 2016.

About 12 Munda students appeared for this important exam, and exam’s results

came out on the 11th of May 2016.

All the Munda students have passed!

Among them three girls are from Jisur Nam Ashram. They are Sunita, Oporna

and Sulota (from left to right in the picture).

We hope all these students will now become college students and go on studying,

so that they can develop themselves and bring social change among our people.

5. NEW KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM: For sure many people will be

curious about our new kitchen and dining room designed by our beloved friend Doctor Marco. Here you are some details on this matter.

In the new kitchen we have the traditional village cooker made of mud which

uses wood as fuel. But we have also a modern gas cooker which can be used for urgent kitchen chores.

Attached to the kitchen we have a basin with running water which is a real luxury

in this part of the country. Now we will not have to go to the pond any more for washing plates and pots.

The dining room is quite wide, full of light and with wide windows which allow

plenty of air to enter. Along with the dining tables with the nice table clothes brought by Manuela we have enough room for watching TV and for a video

library and a small library where our girls can read and learn how to use

computers. We would have never dreamt of having such a luxurious place. If we can now enjoy ourselves in such a modern and very comfortable place we have

to thank Ms. Denise Giraudo, the Lions, and Dr. Marco Pedeferri. When we’ll

write the history of the tribal Munda people of the Sunderban Forest the names of these persons will be written in golden letters.
