You are in for a treat tonight as we proudly present to you: “Redefining Manhood.” The Beautillion program is a signature event for the Beta Tau Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Our goal is to provide a life-enriching program that will help young men transition, and become outstanding men in the future! The young men have participated in a Financial Planning workshop, Essay writing, Etiquette training and various other workshops that will help them make good life choices. Throughout the experience, members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. have shared professional experiences to enlighten, encourage and challenge the participants. Tonight is the culmination of all the hard work from the members of the 2014 Beautillion class. To the entire Beautillion committee, the growth of these young men and tonight’s event could not be a reality without your support. This hard working committee is spearheaded by the Beautillion Committee Chairman, Bro. Jason Wallace. Thank you for your leadership and dedication. Also, I would like to express special thanks to Bro. TeJay Johnson, Bro. Blake Moorman, and Bro. Dr. Darron Turner. Thank you all, our program would not be a success without your leadership and commitment to the Beautillion. The program has been a source of scholarships for young men preparing to enter college. In preparation for the Beautillion, each young man attended workshops, participated in practices and sold ads for the fundraiser. Throughout the experience members of Alpha Phi Alpha have shared personal stories of their college and professional experiences to prepare these young men for the journey they will soon embark upon. On behalf of the Beautillion Committee, I would like to welcome all family, friends, community members and Alpha brothers to the 2014 Alpha Beautillion. The Beta Tau Lambda Charitable Foundation is proud to present these five dynamic young men who have participated in our mentoring program, for the past six months, designed to help them grow from adolescents to men. Our program is centered on mentoring these young men in the areas of college access, academic growth, personal growth, leadership and manhood in hopes that we provide them with the tools necessary to not only succeed, but thrive as future leaders. Over the past few months the Beaux have worked diligently to prepare for tonight’s ceremony. They’ve attended seminars ranging in scope from college preparation to exploring the meaning of manhood in 2014. In addition, they participated in community service projects such as serving and marching in the Greater Fort Worth Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and assisting the Beta Tau Lambda Chapter with our 6th – 8th grade mentoring program, Brotherhood of Onyx. These mentoring programs are designed to teach them the importance of giving back and provide a service-learning model where these young men can understand the meaning and value of servant leadership. I want to personally thank all of the Beaux for their tireless participation and for the great times we’ve shared over the past six months. It’s been a pleasure learning from you all. I would also like to thank the Belles for their hard work and sacrifice, the dynamic families of these young men, and the friends that have supported our Beaux throughout the Beautillion process. Lastly, I would like to give a huge thanks to the committee members and my electrifying co-chair Bro. Timothy (TeJay) Johnson. You all have spent long hours making this program a success. Beautillion Background

In the past, only young ladies, through their Cotillions, were given opportunities to

compete in a friendly and constructive atmosphere with others for scholarships. As a means of

giving young men an equal opportunity to do the same, the Beta Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha

Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated founded its Beautillion. Beta Tau Lambda decided to host a

Beautillion as a means of recognizing and highlighting outstanding, but as yet, unheralded young

males in our communities. These young men are the role models to their peers and elders

because they achieved excellence in their department and have contributed to societal

improvement. The Chapter continues to believe that there is a critical need for such recognition

forums for the young men who represent the personification of the finest of male qualities. In our

judgment, the young men are already on their way toward destinies as leaders. Too many teenage

males in our communities fall prey to negative forces, and it is the belief of the Beta Tau Lambda

Chapter that something must be done individually and collectively for young men to receive the

proper instruction and reinforcement of parental teachings.

Mentoring Implementation Model

In order to achieve its Beautillion Program goals, Beta Tau Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi

Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has developed what is called the Beautillion Mentoring Implementation

Model (MIM). This model specifies seven (7) developmental areas that should be focused on as

activities are being planned and implemented. These areas are personal development, cultural

awareness, economic development, volunteerism and civic responsibility, scholarship, leadership

development, and recreation.

Glenn O. Lewis

Glenn Oliver Lewis was born September 6, 1954 in Fort Worth, Texas. He is the son of T.D. Lewis (deceased) and Vivian Gay (Lewis) Wells. He grew up as the seventh of ten children in the East Fort Worth community known as “Stop Six”. He has been married to Arveda (Bailey) Lewis since 1977. They have two children, a son, Jelani Bailey Lewis, born October 13, 1989 and a daughter, Tiffany Gaye Lewis born December 14, 1990. He and his family are members of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington Texas, where he serves on the Deacon Board and the Usher Board. After graduating from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, Glenn enrolled at Prairie View A&M University. Prior to graduation, he returned home to Fort Worth where he completed his undergraduate work. He

earned an A.A. degree from Tarrant County College and a B.A. from Texas Wesleyan University. He went on to earn a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from The University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas. He is licensed by the State Bar of Texas, The US District Court in The Northern District of Texas and US Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit. He is a member of State Bar College of Texas. Lewis is currently a partner in the law firm of Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson. Prior to joining this firm, he practiced law with his brother; Judge Terry Lewis (deceased), in the Fort Worth firm of Lewis and Lewis. In 1995, Glenn Lewis began serving his first term as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from the ninety-fifth district in Tarrant County. During that first term, his colleagues in The House honored him by voting him The Outstanding Freshman of the Seventy-Fourth Session of the Texas Legislature. Mr. Lewis served as Chairman of the Committee on County Affairs. Additionally he served as Vice-Chairman of the Committee on House Administration; and he served on the Committee on State Affairs. He also served as Vice-Chairman of the Tarrant County Legislative Delegation. As well as Vice-Chairman of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus. Lewis served on the House Select Committee on Public School Finance. He was appointed to the influential Texas Sunset Review Commission making him the first African American to serve on this commission in its history. The author of over seventy pieces of legislation, Representative Lewis’ legislative honors include twice being named one of Texas Medicine’s Best Legislators by the Texas Medical Association. He has received similar honors from The Texas Association of Hispanic Firefighters, Tarrant County Fire and Arson Investigators, The Texas Motorcycle Association and the African American Section of the State Bar of Texas. The Texas Association of County Judges and Commissioners honored him with their first ever Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2001 The Justice of The Peace and Constables Association of Texas named him Legislator of The Year. In 2003 The Texas Association of Counties named him their Legislative Watchdog. Mr. Lewis concluded 10 years of service in the Texas House of Representatives When the 79th Session of the Texas Legislature commenced on January 11, 2005. Mr. Lewis is also active locally. He serves as a Board member of The Fort Worth Tarrant County Branch of The NAACP. He is on The Board of Water from the Rock, Inc. and The Tarrant County Medical Education and Research Foundation. He is also Co-Chairman of the Public Policy Committee of The United Way of Tarrant County. He is also Chairman of the Tarrant County Civil Service Commission, a Commission that he served on first in 1988 and was appointed again in 2008. Mr. Lewis is a member of The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, The Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and The Fort Worth Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce where he serves as Chairman of its Board of Directors. He is a member of The Board of Directors and The Corporate Leadership Council of The Arlington Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he is a member of The Board of Directors of United Way of Tarrant County. In June of 2006 Mr. Lewis became a member of The Board of Trustees at his Alma Mater, Texas Wesleyan University. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.. He has long been a volunteer lawyer for the NAACP legal clinics and One Church, One Child. He is also a frequent speaker at legal, political and community events. In May of 2007, Governor Rick Perry appointed Mr. Lewis to The Board of Regents at Texas Southern University in Houston. His fellow Regents in their first official act elected him Chairman of the newly reconstituted Board. In May of 2009 his colleagues unanimously elected him to a second term as Chairman of the Board of Regents at that prestigious University. He was unanimously re-elected in 2011 and is currently serving his third consecutive term as chairman. In April of 2013 Governor Perry appointed Mr. Lewis to his second six year term on the TSU Board of Regents. In August of 2013 his colleagues unanimously elected him to his fourth term as chairman. In addition to his other duties Mr. Lewis serves as The Presiding Municipal Judge in The Tarrant County City of Forest Hill. He travels the state teaching as a faculty member of The Texas Municipal Courts Education Center. Mr. Lewis also teaches as an adjunct professor at Tarrant County College. He currently serves on The Texas State Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights. In October of 2010 Mr. Lewis was chosen by The Fort Worth Business Press as one of 12 “Power Attorneys” in Tarrant County for the year 2010.
